Primary 7 were very fortunate to be visited by a local author called SF Mazhar. She is the author of the Power of Four series and The Elementals.
She gave us an insight on how she was inspired through her Fan Fiction writing online.
Primary 7 were lucky to have a writing workshop with her. We learnt how to structure a ‘Plot Arch’ and ‘Emphasis’ in our writing.

We enjoyed creating our books, we wrote a variety of fairy tales with a twist.
We loved sharing them this morning with P3, Miss McArthur and Miss Ali. We are looking forward to reading them with our P1 buddies later this afternoon.
With two bikeability sessions under our belts P6a is ready to venture out on to the road. We will be doing this the week after next, as the class are not in school on Tuesday (it is an in service day for staff). We are learning how to travel safely on our bikes and how to indicate our intentions to other road users.
Keep studying your bikeability books as there will be an assessment of your road rules soon!
In class, to complete our Election Fever topic, we had a Brexit debate as it was very topical. We set up our tables and chairs like they do in parliament. There were three sides, remain , leave and undecided. We had lots of fun discussing if we should leave or we should stay. Niamh started the debate by reading her speech and said this all started with the country voting whether we should stay or leave. She told us the results in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and some of the pros and cons. Then Cameron protested against staying in the E.U. and give us reasons why to leave. He talked about regaining control of our borders and the poverty levels in our country being a priority. After that we came to issues such as the Irish border, trade, migration and more. This Thursday was World Book Day! We brought in props from our favourite books. Ayah had a full Hunger Games outfit and Heather had a bow and arrow set to match. We had special personal reading time, took part in a book swap and added to the ‘A Classes’ Travelling Book’.
P1 to 5 had written about a starfish that was rescued by a unicorn and taken to a magical land with lollipop trees and odd black goo puddles. We worked in pairs to think of ideas about where to take the story. We voted for our favourite and worked as a super team, contributing and voting on each event. We used great openers and wow words to create a problem for p7 to resolve in their conclusion. We can’t wait to hear how the story ends!
As part of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge we regularly update our Reading Passports and set ourselves some challenges to make reading fun. We had a special afternoon creating reading dens and got comfy with a good book!
