My Resilience

Your resilience is your ability to manage life’s challenges, bounce back from adversity, and move forward. People have different levels of resilience. Resilience is something that changes depending upon your situation. Many different things contribute to your resilience, in both positive and negative ways.

How you manage a difficult time will depend upon the support around you, the coping strategies you have and how challenging you are finding your experiences.

If you are generally feeling positive about your coping strategies and the people around you who provide support, you are likely to be quite resilient.  If you have some confidence in the possibility that things will change for the better, then you are more likely to bounce back when faced with a challenge.

You will have developed at least some resilience through your responses to the challenges life has thrown at you so far. Most people learn what works and what doesn’t for them through their successes and failures in managing new challenges. Your resilience can therefore become stronger through your experience of different types of risk and challenging situations, so long as they are age-appropriate and manageable.

Some of the challenges and pressures that you might be experiencing may not feel manageable.  However, it is likely these challenges are more common than you might think, and with the right help you can get through it.
