   Wednesday

This morning we did maths. After break we did hockey in  PE and we learnt lots of different skills.  We will use these in games on the MUGA on Thursday.  After lunch we did literacy.

Thursday

We spent the first part of the day creating bird feeders as part of our John Muir award.  They will help biodiversity in our playground.  In the afternoon, we used our hockey skills in game on the MUGA.

Mrs Allan – we worked with P7b to create the bird feeders, using vegetarian lard, a variety of seeds and cereals.  Mrs Norman and I were impressed with the children’s teamwork, creativity and problem solving skills – we’ll keep an eye on what wildlife we can attract.

w/c 4th October P7a

On Tuesday we painted our modroc ice cream cones. We were mixing colours to make an ice-cream colour.  We used blue, red, white, yellow and mint. We could add sprinkles with raffia too.  It was challenging to mix the perfect colour.

This is a red head worm.

We were making another worm survey at the bottom of the hill (not the top),  We found less worms than the top. We made graphs on Friday  using Google sheets to record and interpret our findings.

Did you know that Green worms are the most common in the UK?

We were using metre sticks inside and outside our classroom this week to calculate and estimate area and perimeter.

We were doing a standing jump and making a mark on the wall and then measuring how high the jump was.

We also did some long jumps and measured the distance. the class opinion was split on whether one or two footed jumps were more effective.

Art: In art we covered pour sculptures in mod rock, it was very messy but we enjoyed making our sculptures based on our designs.

Wednesday

Maths: In maths the mathlets were doing a decimals olympic challenge. The subtraction samurai were doing addition and subtraction questions. The Division doctors were doing division with carrying. The maths squad were reading calendars.

Thursday

Writing: Today in rewriting our nature poem or our emotion poem on the chromebook or on a plane piece of paper. We had to make them more interesting using different fonts and colors to reflect the meaning of our work.  For example, we could choose colours that reflected the mood of our poem, or write using different sizes and shapes.

Woodland: In woodland we looked for earthworms and we sorted them into the ones with saddles and ones without a saddle, then we counted up all the worms we found. The number of worms and their maturity (if they have a saddle) shows the soil quality in our school.

w/c 13th September recap

in our time at the Woodland, we practised stick whittling and used team work and gross motor skills to build dens. We used the sticks to mark out sections and measured the area of them.

Some of us made human scales using the resources at the woodland too.

In Spanish, we focussed on learning new vocabulary about colours.  We played games, painted and mixed colours and used talking and listening skills when looking at flags.

In literacy we read chapters 11-18 of CLOUDBUSTING.

                                                           Tuesday

In the morning we had to bring a cereal box. In art we made some ice cream sculptures with newspaper and cereal boxes. Next week we have to bring in a spare shirt because we’re going to be using modroc. it was really fun, but it also hard to work with cardboard since it is so thick.  After break we did some maths. The mathletes did some more decimals. The subtraction samurais did rounding. The division doctors did subtraction. The maths squad did division.

                                                         Wednesday

On Wednesday morning we did some more maths.

After break we did PE. In pe we played different games. Our main focus was aiming so one of the games where throwing a beanbag in the hoops. Each hoop had a whiteboard saying how much that hoop is worth. After lunch We finished CLOUDBUSTING. It was very good and not what we expected at the end!

                                                       Thursday

In the morning we did writing. We wrote poems and they were about nature. After break we finished writing then we went down to our garden and we did some stick whittling. We used some potato peelers to carve the sticks. After lunch we did PE. We played a game where one team had to throw the ball around the circle and the other team had to run round the muga. Once the whole team has run around the muga we would see how many throws the other team has done. Then we would switch rounds and do the same. It showed our fitness and throwing and catching skills.
