PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 07/03/22

Literacy and English 

Alfie Y – In Writing we were writing poems about our family/family member. I chose my brother Ashton.

Varda – We were also learning about different rhyming patterns and writing in stanzas.

Ruby – In Reading, we learned to summarise with a partner. We had to find the main idea and 3 supporting details then come up with a title for the text.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Eva L – In Maths, The Mathletes were learning to read scales and we also tricky word problems. We had to convert Litres and Millilitres.

Aritri – In Maths, The Cool Calculators were learning the 9x tables. We got to solve some word problems and it was quite fun. Afterwards we played multiplication games that Mrs Lamont sent us on Google Classroom.

PE

Mehr – In PE we went to Eastwood and my group were learning to play rugby and we played a game called ladders then we had to pass the rugby ball to one another. After that we played cops and robbers.

Health and Wellbeing

Gabby – In Health and Wellbeing, we were looking through a first aid kit and then afterwards we used bandages, eye patches and plasters to help someone if they were hurt. We took turns practising how to help someone if they were bleeding. Varda and I got to perform. Some performances were really funny.

Outdoor Learning – Beat the Street

John – For Outdoor Learning, we went around Newton Mearns with Miss Estlick and Mrs Norman to collect Beat the Street points. We even went to St Cadoc’s Primary. Altogether we gained 2,400 points!

The Change Challenge 

Harry Fo – In the Design Challenge. On Thursday we made an annotated poster about our product and on Friday we started making our product prototypes. My group started making a robot to help NHS workers and people with disabilities.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 28/02/22

World Book Day

Ruby – For World Book Day we did a book swap and we a did an escape room – escape the book worm challenge. We had to find 10 digits to escape the room using the different reading clues to solve. We also had a Book Cafe.

Literacy and English 

Gabby – In Writing, we were writing poems about a friend. I wrote about my friend Felicity from St Cadocs.

Numeracy and Mathematics

Mehr – In Maths, The Mathletes were learning about mental multiplication and we looked a little bit in to decimals.

Harry Fo – In Maths, The Number Ninjas were learning about length and yesterday was our final day and we were solving word problems.

Health and Wellbeing

Ismail – In HWB, we were learning how to heal/help someone with a burn or scald.

PE

Rayan – In PE, we were playing ladders and hockey in my group at Eastwood High School.

The Change Challenge

Olly – In The Change Challenge last week we designed our product and this week we were creating a company name, slogan and logo. We had 45 minutes to come up with this and when we were all done we got to come up in front of the class and present to everyone.

Outdoor Learning

Archie – In Outdoor Learning, we were writing poems about the weather – the rain, storms, snow, sleet, sun, hail, thunder and lightening. Ours was the best!

Pancakes! 

Hishaam – Today we had pancakes because of Pancake Day on Tuesday. The winner of the Bookworm Challenge got to pick their toppings first. We had jam, butter and maple syrup.

Show and Tell

Alfie B – This week some people brought in items from home for Show and Tell. People in the class got to ask questions about what was brought in.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 21/02/22

Literacy and English

Alfie Y – In Writing, we were making a brochure for a place and you say what wildlife, food and drink, activities and traditions were at your holiday.

Alfie B – On Wednesday, Mrs Doyle came in and we finished making our chatter boxes about Alice in Wonderland.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

John – In Maths, The Number Ninjas have been learning how to convert and add length between metres and centimetres. For example 8m 12cm can be added with another measurement. I solved it in a chimney calculation.

Mehr – In Maths, The Mathletes were learning 3-digit division with the 6 and 7 times tables.

Health and Wellbeing 

Ruby – In HWB, we were learning how to help people if they were in an accident. I was with Alfie Y, Kate, Rayan and Eva L and our situation involved 2 children being stuck on a garage roof and they couldn’t get down. We had to phone the fire brigade to help them down and ensure their injuries were not bad.

PE 

Harry Fo – In PE, we went to Eastwood High School and we did different sports in our different groups. My groups did rugby.

Outdoor Learning 

Callum – In Outdoor Learning, we were making bird feeder with oranges, skewers, bird seed and string. It was really fun!

Ismail – After we made the bird feeders we tried to find 26 items from A-Z that were natural.

Hishaam – On Thursday Miss Estlick let us go outside to play in the snow and it was really fun!

Design and Technology

Gabby – In Design and Technology, I am working with Aritri and Kate to come up with a product to help someone in our local community. We chose elderly people and our product is the ‘mini fridge bed’ and it helps elderly people with sore backs to get food.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 14/02/22

Literacy and English 

Varda – In Writing, we were writing a persuasive letter to Fawlty Towers Hotel because they wasted so much water and we had to persuade them not to using persuasive techniques such as rhetorical questions, powerful word choice, similes and metaphors and many more.

Numeracy and Mathematics

Zunairah – In Maths, The Mathletes were learning about 3-digit multiplication without carrying.

Harry Fo – In Maths, The Number Ninjas were learning about length. Later on in the week we converted measurements with Mr Allen.

Kate – In Maths, The Cool Calculators were learning about directions and we had to give each other directions on how to get around the map that we had made and we had to use N, S, E and W.

Science

Alfie Y – In Science, we were researching on the Chromebooks about how to conserve water and we made notes.

Expressive Arts

Alfie B – In Art we were creating love heart paintings as it was Valentines Day on Monday and we focused on the artist Jim Dine. We used different colours.

PE 

Mehr – In PE, we went to Eastwood High School and we had to get in to groups and every group was learning a different sporting activity. My group was learning how to play rugby.

Outdoor Learning

Ruby – In Outdoor Learning, we learned how to use a compass. To know we are going in the right direction the red arrow has to be in between the 2 green lines. We then came in and had to make a poster on how to use a compass.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 31/01/22

Literacy and English 

Mehr – In Literacy, we were doing a group comprehension about Alice in Wonderland and we had to make inferences and compare and discuss what was the best answer.

Aritri – In Writing, we were making adverts about our own products. We had to include the price, the product and persuasive language such as repetition, rhetorical questions and exaggeration.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Omar – In Numeracy, The Mathletes have been learning about rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. If it was rounding to the nearest 10 from 22 it would be 20.

Archie – In Numeracy, The Number Ninjas have been learning about BODMAS.

Abu-Huraira – In Numeracy, The Cool Calculators about the directions: North, East, South and West.

Health and Wellbeing

Ruby – In Health and Wellbeing we were learning about kindness and friendship and showing kind actions. We did a drama activity where we had a scenario to act out. Our scene was, “if you were getting poked by another pupil in class what would you do?” Then we had to discuss how to deal with the situations.

PE 

Finlay – In PE, we were doing badminton and we were doing mini matches with 4 people. The people that one did rallys or played a cone game.

IDL 

In IDL, we were learning about plastic waste and usage. We had to find different types of information around the room and select key points to include in our fact file.

Science 

Kate – In Science we have been learning about the water cycle and made a water cycle puzzle in groups. At the end we added all the pieces together.

French

Rayan – In French we did a French quiz for Modern Languages week – thank you Mr McMillan!

 

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 24/01/22

Literacy and English

Alfie B – In writing we were using persuasive language. We had to create an imaginative story about a sloth who had to persuade the loggers to leave the Rain forest alone.

 

Numeracy and Mathematics

Alfie Y – In maths the number ninjas were doing BODMAS. We had to do calculations by using BODMAS.

Mehr – The mathletes were doing angles and on our worksheet there was different types of angles. We looked at complementary angle (90 degrees) and supplementary angles (180 degrees). We had to find different ways of making them.

Harry – In maths the cool calculators were tiling using shapes and dividing by 100.

IDL

Ismail – In topic we looked at fossil fuels. First we learned how coal and oil/gas were made. We then learned about their use and their environmental impact. We also learned about how to live in a more sustainable way.

Science

Harry Fo – In science we looked at the density of liquids. We had a sheet of paper with the liquids on it and we made a hypothesis of which liquid was the most dense and which was the least. We were then challenged to create a density ladder.

RME

Hishaam – In RME we were learning about the Jewish 10 commandments. We had to try and remember the 10 commandments as we ran to the poster and back to our group.

Health and Wellbeing / PE

Rayan – In dance we were looking at traditional Scottish dances. At first we did the Canadian barn dance which was really fun.

Tree of Knowledge

Olly – We did a live stream with other schools in Scotland. We looked at how we can be the best person we can be. We learned that there are somethings you might not like about yourself, but other people do.

Young Carers 

Eva L – Today a visitor came to class to talk about young carers and what they do. He also said about what his job was about and helping young carers. We spoke about what young carers were and how it can be hard for them so they need support.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 17/01/22

Literacy and English 

Hishaam – In Writing, we were creating a conversation between characters in an imaginative story. It was about Adam and Ali. Someone was in danger and we got to end our story on an epic moment.

 

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Gabby – In Maths, The Number Ninjas have been learning about function machines.

Omar – In Maths, The Mathletes have started a new topic learning about compasses, directions and degrees. We learned about rotations. 1/2 = 180 egress and 1 full rotation is 360 degrees.

Ellie-Beth – In Maths, The Cool Calculators were learning about tiling. We had to say which shapes tile and do not tile. Shapes with curved edges cannot tile, most shapes with straight edges can tile.

IDL 

Harry Fo – In IDL we were learning about deforestation.

Science 

Varda – In Science, we were making submarines that could sink, float and hover. We used bottles, tubs and other materials. Then at the end we tested them and the winning group got a prize.

RME

Eva L – In RME, we have been learning about Judaism. Today we created a picture of inside the synagogue and we drew all the the things inside them that we have learned about and we had to label them.

Health and Wellbeing  (Circle Time and PE)

In Circle Time, first we had a vote to name our worry monster and “Blob” is his name. Then we read a book about worries then we talked about what we are looking forward to.

Expressive Arts 

Sophia – In Art, we were creating climate change pictures to encourage people to act for the climate. We had some inspirational pictures on the board and created our own pictures with colouring pencils and/or paint.

Pupil News 

Alfie B – On Tuesday I brought in my new Taekwondo belt that 2 1/2 months to get!

 

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 10/01/22

Literacy and English 

Varda – In Literacy, in Writing we were learning about direct speech, having a conversation with 2 or more characters. We used a speech sandwich to helps us. The bread was speech marks, the butter was capital letters, the meat was the sentence, the garnish was the punctuation. Then we had the bread again then the label which was who was speaking.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Ismail – In Maths, The Number Ninjas moved on to data handling on the chromebooks and we had to make graphs and tables.

IDL

Omar – We started our new topic all about climate change. Climate change is caused because of extra greenhouse gases.

Health and Wellbeing (PE) – Dance) 

Zunairah – In Dance, we were learning different traditional Scottish dances. We learned the Canadian Barn Dance, Military Two Step, The Gay Gordons and The Cheeseburger. My  favourite was The Cheeseburger and The Gay Gordons!

Science

Gabby – In Science, we learned how things sink and float with Mr Allen. We learned about buoyancy and negative buoyancy and density. 2 people in each group had to pick an item to put in the water and see if it would float or sink. We had to make a hypothesis beforehand.

RME

Olly – In RME, we were learning about where Jewish people worship called a synagogue. We were looking at different things in the Synagogue. We had to write about one of the 6 objects and you had to draw a picture of it. The 6 objects are the eternal light, the ark, the tora, the memorial board, the siddur and bimah.

Art 

Alfie B – In Art, we were drawing leaves and painting them different colours. We were focusing on mixing colours. We added white to make the paint lighter and black to make it darker.

Outdoor Learning

Callum – In Outdoor Learning, we went outside to see what we had in our playground which was good for the environment. We finished off drawing out what we want the woodland to look like.

Class News

Sophia – We were thinking about moving our tables in to two rows. We wanted a worry monster. We also want a jar with pom poms in it and we can get pom poms for good behaviour. When the jar is full we get a class reward. At the front of the desk we have an activity area which we can use when we finish our jobs – today was to draw a picture of us in our dream job.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 13/12/21

Literacy and English 

John – In Writing, we were writing about our hero. First we drew our hero then we wrote about them. We had to introduce them, tell the reader what they had achieved and then tell the reader why they are our hero. Afterwards, we got to read them out to the class.

Gabby – In Comprehension, we were doing an assessment on the chromebooks. It was about someone who makes a virtual world and it comes to life. Then we went on this website called read theory which is like our Comp Boxes on the computer.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Ismail – In Maths, The Number Ninjas were learning about symmetry and symmetrical patterns.

Varda – In Maths, The Mathletes were learning about addition and subtraction of weight. We had to convert different weights and then add them together or subtract them.

Festive Events 

Mehr – On Tuesday, it was our Christmas party and we played 4 games. The games were corners, musical statues, dance-off and pass the parcel. Whoever won pass the parcel won a pop-it and we had snacks, we got crisps, sweets and juice.

Olly – On Wednesday, after school we were performing Christmas Carols. We had to stand outside of P4 and parents came to watch us. We walked out in to our lines to our spots. I think it went very well.

Social Studies

Alfie B – This week in Social Studies, we finished off our shoe box dioramas and now we get to take them home!

Health and Wellbeing / PE 

Hishaam – In PE, we were playing handball. We had 4 different teams. The teams would swap on and off to play one another.

Eva L – In HWB, we were learning about our elastic brains and how they can bounceback. Like an elastic band, even when things go backwards they can go forwards. We wrote about what part of our brain we use the most and what we persevere with to get better at.

Expressive Arts

Rayan – In Art, we were making our own woodland poems. After that we had to rewrite them in our best handwriting. Then we started painting our woodland pictures.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 06/12/21

Literacy and English 

Mehr – In Literacy, we were doing comprehension and we had to learn how to make inferences. The Authors’ text was about Family History. Then afterwards we completed our spelling and the blue group had to complete a wordsearch.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Varda – In Maths, The Mathletes completed a term assessment which included multiplication, addition, division, subtraction, data handling, symmetry, BODMAS and function machines to see what we know.

Harry Fi – In Maths, The Cool Calculators were drawing bar graphs. We also made our own surveys and asked the class questions to gather data.

Health and Wellbeing with PE

Omar – In PE with Miss Estlick we had to stay in because of the weather and did Yoga in the classroom. It was a Christmas yoga with different Christmas poses and it was really fun.

Ismail – In PE with Mr McMillan we practised dribbling in football.

Sophia – In HWB, we made our own cereal boxes. Our cereal had to made you an effective learner. We had to come up with a name and add all the details we wanted to. We added lots of colour too.

Expressive Arts (Song Practise) 

John – For song practise we went outside as this is where we will be singing for the parents. It was quite cold but we practised our songs very well. Our last song is “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” in Makaton.

Social Studies 

Zunairah – In Social Studies, we were designing shoe boxes. We were designing different rooms. We already picked a decade last week. We had to include wallpaper, carpets and furniture like curtains and lamps.

Outdoor Learning 

Rayan – In Outdoor Learning we were writing our own poems about nature. After making our own poems about nature we got on to making TV adverts about saving nature.

Present Room 

Harry Fo – We visited the restocked present room which was great! We paid £1-2 for a gift. A small gift was £1 and a big gift was £2.

Pupil News

Alfie B – My friends and I went to Mrs McGuigan’s office to give her ideas about how to help climate change in school. We are making slides now for different classes.

Chloe – Some of the COP club and Animal Activists joined together to create “Animal Club” so we can make more posters and spread awareness more efficiently.
