PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 22/11/21

Literacy and English 

Gabby – In Writing, we were creating mind maps and we had to make it all about ourselves. They had to be colour coded with branches and sub-breaches. I included ones about school and what I like and dislike.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Hishaam – In Maths, The Mathletes finished their measuring topic and yesterday we did some words problems that were not that easy.

Alfie B – In Maths, The Number Ninjas have been learning 2 things. We have been learning about 3D shapes and yesterday we started learning about factors and made factor rainbows.

Social Studies 

Ruby – In Social Studies, we were designing our own clothes from the decade we chose to make our mood boards about.

Primary 6 Visit

Archie – P6 came to our class and they told us about kindness and they showed us a video about kindness.

Expressive Arts (Singing)

Sophie – For singing all P5s joined us and we were singing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, When Santa Got Stuck up the Chimney and We Three Kings. We also learned makaton to We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Science 

Mehr – In Science, we had to build a windmill for renewable energy. It had to be able to spin around to work. We only had playdough, a bamboo stick, paper and some scissors and glue. You had to work out how to do it in your group without any teacher help.

HWB (PE)

Ben – For PE with Mr McMillan, we were doing athletics and we were doing the long jump, shot put, hurdles, javelin, obstacle course, jumping mat and target practise.

Harry Fo – For PE with Miss Estlick, we just started hand ball. In hand ball we were focusing on our passing. We played hot potato and then at the end we played games.

Outdoor Learning

Andrew – In the woodland, me, Archie, Zunairah and John built a hut for Zunairah’s pet quails. We used tyres and wooden planks and we made it with a roof for shelter.

Kate – In the woodland, we got a piece of paper and a crayon and we had to do tree and leaf rubbings to see the cool patterns it would make.

Varda – In the woodland, we were learning to identify leaves and trees and told the teacher what we had found.

Pupil News

Ellie-Beth – Me, Chloe and Sophie wrote to David Attenborough and told him about our concerns about the world. We tol dhim how we pick up litter and protest at school to help save our planet. Then he wrote back to us!

Book Week

STEM: A Story

Eva L – In STEM: A Story, we were doing some experiments from George’s Marvellous Experiments. The first experiment: we chopped gummy cherries in to a cup and then we put some water and bicarbonate of soda on top. Then after 30 minutes, we went back and added vinegar in to it. It all started bubbling and the cherries were swelling.

Zunairah – For the second experiment we had a piece of string, a balloon, a straw and a piece of tape. We had to get the balloon to travel from one end of the string to the other without touching it or blowing it. We had to figure it out all by ourselves. We had to blow up the balloon, not tie it, cellotape it to the straw. The straw then had the string through it. Then we let go of the balloon and it moved.

Outdoor Stories: 

Omar – In Outdoor Learning, we were acting out famous nursery stories. My team acted out Hansel and Grettle.

Starbooks Cafe:

Hishaam – We had a cafe where we had to share our favourite books with each other and write down what we liked about them. We also had a special treat of a choice of cupcake and juice from the cafe.

Expressive Arts (Drama)

Mehr – In Drama, we were learning to improvise and we were playing some games. Later Miss Estlick picked people who had to improvise a scene and the audience had to guess what it was about.

 

Social Studies (Topic)

Alfie B – In Social Studies we were making mood boards from the 1950s-1990s fashion on the chromebooks. When we were finished we could come up to the front and present our creativity to the class.

   

Numeracy and Mathematics

Finlay – In Maths, The Mathletes have been learning about length and adding lengths by converting cm and m.

Harry Fo – In Maths, The Number Ninjas have been learning about addition and subtraction. Half of the week we did addition and the other half we did subtraction. We used 3-digits.

Health and Wellbeing (PE)

Chloe – In PE we were doing hockey. We played games against one another and then we had a tournament.

Pupil News

Andrew – For Pupil News, I brought in my grandad’s old Davy Lamp that is in my livingroom. I showed the class and some people got to hold it and it was very heavy.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 08/11/21

Literacy and English 

Sophia – In Writing, we had to write the ending of a story. We watched the beginning of a video clip and we had to continue the story about Agent Fox.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

John – In Maths, The Number Ninjas were completing some subtraction and addition questions. I found it easy because I know the process. We did it with 3-digit numbers!

Omar – In Maths, The Mathletes were learning about BODMAS. You had to answer the BODMAS questions. The numbers represented letters and the letters were all jumbled so we had to solve the word.

Kate – In Maths, The Cool Calculators were charts to count up tally marks. We had to add up tally marks together.

Health and Wellbeing (PE) 

Gabby – In PE with Mr McMillan we were completing gymnastic/athletic obstacle courses.

Olly – This morning we were learning how to shoot in hockey. We first took shots at each other then after that we changed and played beat the goalie. After that we had to pass up our teams to the goals. The last person in line had to shoot and then move to the top of the queue. After that we split in to 3 teams and played a 1V1 hockey match.

Social Studies (Topic)

Hishaam – For Social Studies we were creating a fact file about a famous Scottish Inventor. We had to take notes about their early life and how they created their invention. We put all our gathered notes in to a fact file.

Expressive Arts (Drama)

Alfie B – In Drama, we were doing a drama term called ‘hot-seating’. It is where you would sit in the hot seat and we had to be an inventor and we had to answer questions as the inventor and people had to guess who we were.

Winter Competition

Zunairah – We are taking part in a competition for a member of Scottish Parliament. We had to make a Christmas picture. Whoever wins will have their picture at the end of her emails and a big prize.

Outdoor Learning 

Andrew – In Outdoor Learning we were finding different objects and insects using bug magnifiers. We could look through the tubs and it made the leaves and animals look really big and you could see the patterns on the leaves. We also used microscopes. We switched the tubs around to see what each other had found. We had to draw what we could see through the microscopes such as skin and patterns.

French 

Sophie – In French we were learning numbers. On the screen there would be a number in French and we had to write it down. If we got it correct we got a point. After that we played a game of French number bingo.

Ismail – We also added French words to the correct number.

Pupil News 

Eva L – My friends and I made a climate change club and also I went to a climate change march on Saturday.

Primary 5B Week Beginning 01/11/21

Literacy and English 

Sophie – In Writing, we were continuing a story and were writing the middle of the story. It was about a boy called Rowan and fireworks.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Zunairah – In Maths this week the Number Ninjas were doing the 7, 8 and 9x tables.

Hishaam – In Maths the Mathletes were learning BODMAS which stands for brackets, outside, division, multiplication, add and subtract. It was a method we used when solving calculations.

Harry Fi – In Maths, the Cool Calculators were doing area. We counted the boxes to find the area.

Topic 

Sophia – In Topic, we were taking notes about Scotland Through the Decades. Miss Estlick is going to take some pictures of our work for the Headteacher to look at. We used the Chromebook to help us find primary and secondary sources.

Health and Wellbeing /PE

Eva L – In PE,  we did games with the parachute as part of Break the Rules Day. We played cat and mouse and we ran under the parachute.

Alfie B – In Health and Wellbeing, we ranked celebrities from successful to least successful. We then found out that all these people had failed before they could succeed.

Science 

Archie – In Science we took part in an engineering competition to make bridges. This year we couldn’t have judges from the Glasgow Science Centre in to vote so we took pictures of our bridges for other people to judge.

Varda – We had to make a bridge that lets ships go under it – either a swivel bridge or a bridge that raises. It had to go over the River Clyde. It also had to have pedestrians and cyclists go across it.

 

Outdoor Learning 

Olly – In Outdoor Learning we did orienteering with Mrs Lamont. We had to use hide a clip around the school and plot it on a map. Then everyone else was given a map to find the clip. The sticks were numbered and the patterns had to be found in order. When you finished you went to Mrs Lamont and were given a new pattern. We had to match the pattern to the number on our sheet.

Expressive Arts (Drama) 

John – In Drama, we were learning about mime. In groups, we had to demonstrate different emotions and actions and our team had to guess it and if you got it correct you got to keep the card for points. The team with the most points at the end won. Then we played a whole class game called charades from the actions in the tub.
