PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 29/11/21

Literacy and English 

Mehr – In Writing, we were completing mind maps about our learning. Each mindmap had to include a topic, thick branches, sub-branches and pictures.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

John – In Maths, The Number Ninjas were learning about multiples. For example the multiples of 6 would be 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 and so on. We have also been learning about Factor T’s and Factor Rainbows. It was very fun!

Eva L – In Maths, The Mathletes were learning about 4-digit addition and subtraction.

Road Safety Week

Gabby – In Road Safety Week, P5 were creating posters to encourage people to drive safe and help people cross the road if they are having any trouble. P6 came to our classroom and gave us a quiz to answer. It was multiple choice and we did very well!

Health and Wellbeing / PE

Rayan – In PE we were playing a game of handball. We had to pass the ball to each other and throw it in the goal. Also thanks everyone for reading this comment since this is my first comment!

Zunairah – In the morning, Mrs Nasar came in and she gave us a task about kindness. She told us that if we are with more people we are less likely to stand up to bullying as we think someone else will step in. It is called the bystander effect. We want to be more upstander.

Sophie – In Health and Wellbeing, we made top trump cards about ourselves. We chose the topics we need to work on as a class. 1 was growth mindset, 1 was listening, 1 was team work and 1 was resilience.

Expressive Arts (Singing)

Varda – Outside in the playground we were singing songs and we struggled with one of them because we were going to fast but the rest were perfect!

Social Studies 

Ruby – In Social Studies, we were designing the rooms for our shoe boxes based on different decades from the 50’s-90’s. Then we had to work in groups to discuss our ideas. Next week we are going to actually make our shoe box rooms based on our plans.

Outdoor Learning 

Ismail – In Outdoor Learning, we were using binoculars. We were trying to spot wildlife and we had to write down our 5 senses on the whiteboard. For example if we saw a bird we would write that under sight.

Kate – Next week we are going to do wild writing about what we found.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 22/11/21

Literacy and English 

Gabby – In Writing, we were creating mind maps and we had to make it all about ourselves. They had to be colour coded with branches and sub-breaches. I included ones about school and what I like and dislike.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Hishaam – In Maths, The Mathletes finished their measuring topic and yesterday we did some words problems that were not that easy.

Alfie B – In Maths, The Number Ninjas have been learning 2 things. We have been learning about 3D shapes and yesterday we started learning about factors and made factor rainbows.

Social Studies 

Ruby – In Social Studies, we were designing our own clothes from the decade we chose to make our mood boards about.

Primary 6 Visit

Archie – P6 came to our class and they told us about kindness and they showed us a video about kindness.

Expressive Arts (Singing)

Sophie – For singing all P5s joined us and we were singing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, When Santa Got Stuck up the Chimney and We Three Kings. We also learned makaton to We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Science 

Mehr – In Science, we had to build a windmill for renewable energy. It had to be able to spin around to work. We only had playdough, a bamboo stick, paper and some scissors and glue. You had to work out how to do it in your group without any teacher help.

HWB (PE)

Ben – For PE with Mr McMillan, we were doing athletics and we were doing the long jump, shot put, hurdles, javelin, obstacle course, jumping mat and target practise.

Harry Fo – For PE with Miss Estlick, we just started hand ball. In hand ball we were focusing on our passing. We played hot potato and then at the end we played games.

Outdoor Learning

Andrew – In the woodland, me, Archie, Zunairah and John built a hut for Zunairah’s pet quails. We used tyres and wooden planks and we made it with a roof for shelter.

Kate – In the woodland, we got a piece of paper and a crayon and we had to do tree and leaf rubbings to see the cool patterns it would make.

Varda – In the woodland, we were learning to identify leaves and trees and told the teacher what we had found.

Pupil News

Ellie-Beth – Me, Chloe and Sophie wrote to David Attenborough and told him about our concerns about the world. We tol dhim how we pick up litter and protest at school to help save our planet. Then he wrote back to us!

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 15/11/21

Book Week

STEM: A Story

Eva L – In STEM: A Story, we were doing some experiments from George’s Marvellous Experiments. The first experiment: we chopped gummy cherries in to a cup and then we put some water and bicarbonate of soda on top. Then after 30 minutes, we went back and added vinegar in to it. It all started bubbling and the cherries were swelling.

Zunairah – For the second experiment we had a piece of string, a balloon, a straw and a piece of tape. We had to get the balloon to travel from one end of the string to the other without touching it or blowing it. We had to figure it out all by ourselves. We had to blow up the balloon, not tie it, cellotape it to the straw. The straw then had the string through it. Then we let go of the balloon and it moved.

Outdoor Stories: 

Omar – In Outdoor Learning, we were acting out famous nursery stories. My team acted out Hansel and Grettle.

Starbooks Cafe:

Hishaam – We had a cafe where we had to share our favourite books with each other and write down what we liked about them. We also had a special treat of a choice of cupcake and juice from the cafe.

Expressive Arts (Drama)

Mehr – In Drama, we were learning to improvise and we were playing some games. Later Miss Estlick picked people who had to improvise a scene and the audience had to guess what it was about.

 

Social Studies (Topic)

Alfie B – In Social Studies we were making mood boards from the 1950s-1990s fashion on the chromebooks. When we were finished we could come up to the front and present our creativity to the class.

   

Numeracy and Mathematics

Finlay – In Maths, The Mathletes have been learning about length and adding lengths by converting cm and m.

Harry Fo – In Maths, The Number Ninjas have been learning about addition and subtraction. Half of the week we did addition and the other half we did subtraction. We used 3-digits.

Health and Wellbeing (PE)

Chloe – In PE we were doing hockey. We played games against one another and then we had a tournament.

Pupil News

Andrew – For Pupil News, I brought in my grandad’s old Davy Lamp that is in my livingroom. I showed the class and some people got to hold it and it was very heavy.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 08/11/21

Literacy and English 

Sophia – In Writing, we had to write the ending of a story. We watched the beginning of a video clip and we had to continue the story about Agent Fox.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

John – In Maths, The Number Ninjas were completing some subtraction and addition questions. I found it easy because I know the process. We did it with 3-digit numbers!

Omar – In Maths, The Mathletes were learning about BODMAS. You had to answer the BODMAS questions. The numbers represented letters and the letters were all jumbled so we had to solve the word.

Kate – In Maths, The Cool Calculators were charts to count up tally marks. We had to add up tally marks together.

Health and Wellbeing (PE) 

Gabby – In PE with Mr McMillan we were completing gymnastic/athletic obstacle courses.

Olly – This morning we were learning how to shoot in hockey. We first took shots at each other then after that we changed and played beat the goalie. After that we had to pass up our teams to the goals. The last person in line had to shoot and then move to the top of the queue. After that we split in to 3 teams and played a 1V1 hockey match.

Social Studies (Topic)

Hishaam – For Social Studies we were creating a fact file about a famous Scottish Inventor. We had to take notes about their early life and how they created their invention. We put all our gathered notes in to a fact file.

Expressive Arts (Drama)

Alfie B – In Drama, we were doing a drama term called ‘hot-seating’. It is where you would sit in the hot seat and we had to be an inventor and we had to answer questions as the inventor and people had to guess who we were.

Winter Competition

Zunairah – We are taking part in a competition for a member of Scottish Parliament. We had to make a Christmas picture. Whoever wins will have their picture at the end of her emails and a big prize.

Outdoor Learning 

Andrew – In Outdoor Learning we were finding different objects and insects using bug magnifiers. We could look through the tubs and it made the leaves and animals look really big and you could see the patterns on the leaves. We also used microscopes. We switched the tubs around to see what each other had found. We had to draw what we could see through the microscopes such as skin and patterns.

French 

Sophie – In French we were learning numbers. On the screen there would be a number in French and we had to write it down. If we got it correct we got a point. After that we played a game of French number bingo.

Ismail – We also added French words to the correct number.

Pupil News 

Eva L – My friends and I made a climate change club and also I went to a climate change march on Saturday.

Primary 5B Week Beginning 01/11/21

Literacy and English 

Sophie – In Writing, we were continuing a story and were writing the middle of the story. It was about a boy called Rowan and fireworks.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Zunairah – In Maths this week the Number Ninjas were doing the 7, 8 and 9x tables.

Hishaam – In Maths the Mathletes were learning BODMAS which stands for brackets, outside, division, multiplication, add and subtract. It was a method we used when solving calculations.

Harry Fi – In Maths, the Cool Calculators were doing area. We counted the boxes to find the area.

Topic 

Sophia – In Topic, we were taking notes about Scotland Through the Decades. Miss Estlick is going to take some pictures of our work for the Headteacher to look at. We used the Chromebook to help us find primary and secondary sources.

Health and Wellbeing /PE

Eva L – In PE,  we did games with the parachute as part of Break the Rules Day. We played cat and mouse and we ran under the parachute.

Alfie B – In Health and Wellbeing, we ranked celebrities from successful to least successful. We then found out that all these people had failed before they could succeed.

Science 

Archie – In Science we took part in an engineering competition to make bridges. This year we couldn’t have judges from the Glasgow Science Centre in to vote so we took pictures of our bridges for other people to judge.

Varda – We had to make a bridge that lets ships go under it – either a swivel bridge or a bridge that raises. It had to go over the River Clyde. It also had to have pedestrians and cyclists go across it.

 

Outdoor Learning 

Olly – In Outdoor Learning we did orienteering with Mrs Lamont. We had to use hide a clip around the school and plot it on a map. Then everyone else was given a map to find the clip. The sticks were numbered and the patterns had to be found in order. When you finished you went to Mrs Lamont and were given a new pattern. We had to match the pattern to the number on our sheet.

Expressive Arts (Drama) 

John – In Drama, we were learning about mime. In groups, we had to demonstrate different emotions and actions and our team had to guess it and if you got it correct you got to keep the card for points. The team with the most points at the end won. Then we played a whole class game called charades from the actions in the tub.

Break the Rules Day 

Primary 5B Week Beginning 25/10/21

Literacy and English 

Mehr – In Writing, we were writing about a Halloween setting. We were only writing the beginning of the story and we had to include adverbs, metaphors and similes to make it more interesting.

Ismail – In Comprehension, we were learning how to scan through a text to find specific words and used a text marking code. If we found numbers we put a squiggly line under it and a circle around times and dates.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Eva L – In Maths, The Mathletes were learning about data handling on the chromebooks. We were learning about making graphs online and creating surveys for other people to answer.

Gabby – In Maths, The Number Ninjas were learning how to find fractions of a number.

Harry Fo – In Maths, The Number Ninjas were practising 6,7,8 and 9 x tables.

French 

Alfie B – In French, we were learning about family members. We had to match the correct vocabulary to the correct person on the family tree.

Outdoor Learning 

Olly – In Outdoor Learning we were orienteering. We had to find different pegs that had patterns on them and we had to clip them on to our paper in the correct order. We used maps to locate where the clips were. Once you had finished you had to show the teacher and get a new map.

Social Studies (Topic)

Varda – In the corridor there were pictures with numbers. We had a sheet with the numbers on them. We had to go on a hunt to find all the pictures and identify if they were primary or secondary sources.

Science (COP 26) 

Sophia – In Science, we were talking about ways to help the world because of COP26. We went in to groups of 4 and had to create a drama presentation. It was a news report about how we can save the environments. We were given a question about the environment that we had to address/answer in our news report.

Expressive Arts

Zunairah – In Art we created scary self-portraits inspired by Tim Burton who creates creepy movie characters.

PE

John – In PE today we played hockey. We played King of the Ring, practices passing, piggy in the middle and then hockey matches.

Finlay – In PE with Mr McMillan we done Athletics. There was javelin, hurdles and a big obstacle course.

Primary 5B Week Beginning 18/10/21

Literacy and English

Ismail – In Literacy we were predicted what was going to happen in our class group novels.

Chloe – In Writing we were writing a story which had to include character description, the five senses and setting. We also shared our holiday news.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Zunairah – In Maths, the Number Ninjas were learning the 6x table with mixed multiplication and division. Then we did the same with the 7x table.

Mehr – In Maths, the Mathletes were learning about symmetrical patterns. We had to match the colours using mirror image.

Ellie-Beth – In Maths, the Cool Calculators did measuring. We went around 3 stations. In 1 station we had to measure objects with rulers. In the 2nd station we had to measure the objects weight with scales. In the 3rd station we had to measure volume with jugs.

PE 

Aritri – In PE, we played hockey. We dribbled around at the start them we played some hockey matches.

Sophia – In PE, we raced against one other by dribbling around the cones and passing to our teammates.

Eva L – With Mr MacMillan, we did stations and there were different ones that we went around in different groups. We had lots of different obstacles, we also had hurdles.

Topic

Gabby – In Topic we created little envelopes for the different decades in Scotland. Kate and I were partners and we researched Queen Elizabeth II. We found some interesting facts and wrote them down then we created a picture on the front.

Alfie B – We put all of our envelopes together in a timeline in order of when each event happened, in chronological order, from the 1920s to the 1990s.

Expressive Arts

John – In Art we sketched umbrellas and sunglasses. We could choose between the two. One of the umbrellas was closed and one was open. With the sunglasses we had to draw realistic sunglasses or create imaginary sunglasses.

Outdoor Learning 

Sophia – In Outdoor Learning, we went on a scavenger hunt to find different items around the school and the woodland. At the same time we took part in a competition to see who could find the biggest leaf.

PRIMARY 5B WEEK BEGINNING 27/09/21 and 04/10/21

Literacy and English 

Olly – In Writing, we had to describe a setting. We had to use a lot of adjectives, similes and metaphors. Some of us self-assessed and peer-assessed the work. We could write about a desert island,  a cabin in the woods, an abandoned hospital and a castle.

Sophie – In Literacy, the Editors were answering questions about a text called Life of a Castle. It was interesting to find out about how life in a castle is different from ours.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Gabby – In Maths the Number Ninjas have been learning how to use a calculator. We completed some multiplication and division questions and we checked our answers with a calculator.

Chloe – In Maths the Mathletes completed their end of topic assessment. It was fun! We did division, x and divide by 10 and 100 in it.

Health and Wellbeing (PE)

Alfie B – Today in PE we were playing football and played a lot of different games. We also played Beat the Goalie.

Science 

Zunairah – In Science, we worked with a partner. We chose an animal to research. We used chromebooks and our skills to create a poster. John and I looked at Rhinos. Last week we created our very own Google Slide with facts about animals.

Art 

Sophia – In Art we have been looking at tone and shading. We used charcoal to make a realistic house and we were working on shading from dark to light and light to dark.

Archie – In Art we were learning how to create a sunset by using different warm colours and blending them together. We had to create animals as the main focus for our picture and then shaded around them.

Ismail – In Art we created Ndembele patterns. You had to make them symmetrical and include warm or cold colours. We used oil pastels.

Topic 

Eva – In Topic, we were taste testing different types of chocolate and we had to guess which one we thought was Fairtrade. We also learned the Fairtrade process and why Fairtrade is important.

Sophia – We also got to talk about which chocolate we preferred and why. I preferred chocolate one which was milk chocolate.

Mehr – I tried dark chocolate for the first time. I didn’t really like it because it was a bit too strong. But I liked the white chocolate because it was nice and sweet.

Aritri – I tried dark chocolate for the first time. When I tasted it it was perfect for me because I don’t like milk chocolate.

Primary 5B Week Beginning 20/09/21

Literacy and English

Ismail – In Writing, we learned how to ‘show not tell’ in our writing. We planed our story using a planning mountain. We had to describe our main character at the start. We were learning how to describe different emotions such as happy without saying that the character is happy.

Alfie B – In Comprehension, The Editors were reading a story about the Balaclava Boys and were answering questions.

Zunairah – In Literacy we we were learning different a sounds – ay, ai and eigh.

Numeracy and Mathematics 

Gabby – In Numeracy the Number Ninjas and Mathletes were working on division with remainders and exchanging.

Finlay – In Numeracy the Mathletes were learning about product. A product is the answer to a multiplication e.g. 2×3 =6. 6 is the product.

Harry Fi – In Numeracy the Cool Calculators were learning about the 5x table and 3D shapes.

PE with Mr McMillan 

John – We played basketball. We played a basketball match and then we practised our dribbling and how to control the ball.

RME with Mr McMillan 

Eva L – In RME with Mr McMillan we learned about Islam and Mr McMillan gave us cards with little bits of the Qu’ran and we had to pair them up and learn about what they meant.

Science

Sophie – In Science we became animal experts. My group learned about amphibians. Then we all had to rotate around one another’s groups and share what we learned. We then had to write down what we learned from other groups.

 

Social Studies

Zunairah – In topic we were learning about the Mantandani Primary School in Malawi. We had a Venn diagram to fill in to compare what Scottish schools have with Malawi schools and then what we have in common. For example we both had chairs in our classrooms.

Sophia – We watched a tour of the Mantandani Primary School and we also got to look inside of the classrooms.

Expressive  Arts 

Hishaam – In Art we were learning about Ndbele patterns. We made patterns using oil pastels.
