Class Blog- 11th March

“In drama Mrs Hutchinson picked people to be fairy tale characters. The rest of us had to interview them. For example, we asked the Big Bad Wolf about being a murderer but he said he was innocent. There was also Red Riding Hood, the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella.” Ava

“Tony from Active Schools came. We were working on coaching and leadership skills by setting up and running games for the rest of the class.” Edward

“In topic we did some frozen planet art. We looked at some Inuit art and then had a go ourselves. We drew pictures of polar animals and then we painted them. Some people did penguins, some people octopi and fish, and there was owls and huskies too.” Zakir

“In P.E we played capture the flag. This week we thought about how to split the team into different jobs. There was a jail guard, there were people going for the flag, there were people trying to distract the other team and there were others defending the flag.” Ross G

We also practised some of our gymnastics skills this week.

“In maths we were finding the area of triangles and then  composite shapes made of rectangles and triangles. To find the area of a triangle you multiply the height and width and then divide by two.” Daryn

“In writing we some persuasive writing about saving polar regions. We had to make 4 points and we had to include an introduction and a conclusion.” Dawud

“At the woodland we did a 1000 step challenge to explore. Then we used binoculars to look for different animals.” Ella

“In Music we played music bingo. There was a card with different notes. Mrs Hutchison clapped it out, if you had the rhythm you crossed it off.” Ava

“In P.E we played Capture the Flag. We discussed new rules, we added in dropping the flag if you got tigged and a time limit for being in the opponents box. We also moved the jail to make rescuing people easier.” Charlotte

“Today we went back to the gym hall for assembly! It was our first assembly in real life in two years! Some people got certificates and we sang the school song.” Aisha

“This week we went outside with Tony from Active Schools. Different tables took turns choosing and leading a game for us to play. We were learning how to be good leaders.” Ella

“Thursday was World Book Day. We had juice, crisps and sweets while we listened to our class novel. We also spent some time reading our own books and we also did a book swap. People brought in books to swap with one another.” Amina

“In drama we acted out what we would do on an aeroplane. There was a huge flight on the plane!”  Edward

“In writing we were highlighting the rule of three, opinion, emotive language and rhetorical questions in our model text. Then we used our new skills to write a persuasive piece arguing that the wolf was innocent in Little Red Riding Hood.” Dawud

“In topic we were making food chains for polar animals and when we finished we started making a food web.” Emily

“In maths we were finding the area of composite shapes and also the area of some real life objects around the class.” Cameron

Class blog- 25th February

“In P.E we played capture the flag. We split into two teams, each team came up with a plan to defend their flag. If you got caught by the other team you went in jail and had to get rescued.” Ella

“In maths we learnt about coordinates. In coordinates you write brackets round the number. The tip to remember is along the corridor then up the stairs.” Cameron

“We designed front covers for our frozen planet topic. We included drawings of things like polar bears and penguins.” Jenny

“In music we were using the glockenspiels. We were learning how to play different notes. We started off by clapping the rhythm and then doing it on the glockenspiel. It was very hard.” Charlotte

“In writing we were doing persuasive phrases. We wrote persuasive sentences about Jack and the Beanstalk. We started with some sentences then wrote a paragraph.” Olivia

“We we started working on our John Muir award. We learnt and researched about John Muir’s life.” Haniya

“Tony from Active Schools came to see us. He was teaching us about sports and leadership. We are going to be working on sports leadership for the next 4 weeks.” Jude

“On Monday we had a visit from a Gaelic teacher. We learnt a song and colours and some other Gaelic. Some of us sang a song called Brochan Lom for the Mother Tongue assembly.” Zara and Ryan

“In drama Mrs Hutchison gave us story scenes to improvise. There was an aeroplane one and a forest one.” Ava

“As part of Mother Tongue Languages day some people showed us books from home. We saw an Urdu book and some Arabic ones.” Myra

“On Thursday we played in the snow. We made snowmen, polar bears, and even an Among Us character.” Habiba and Alfie

“We started learning a little bit about Islam in R.M.E. We learnt some of the basics of Islam.” Zakir

Class Blog- Friday 18th February

“In Drama we were doing improvisation. Mrs Hutchison put different lines to start your scene. For example, dad is mad at you etc. You went up with a partner and you had to make up on the go. You didn’t know what the other person was going to say. It was really hard but really fun.” Charlotte

“In P.E we played a dodgeball game. If you got hit you had to go to the other side, to escape you had to catch a ball thrown from your side.” Olivia

“We were learning about climate change in the Arctic. We made leaflets showing the impact on animals, what is happening and some solutions we could try.” Zakir

“In Music we were doing maths using music notes. We were adding and subtracting the number of beats.” Ava

“In Literacy we practised our spelling words and created sentences that used our spelling words.” Ella

“In writing we were looking at persuasive writing. We read a piece of persuasive writing that said Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk was a criminal. Then we had a debate in class. Then we up-levelled some sentences about Jack by adding emotive language.” Isla

Class Blog- 11th February

“In R.M.E we learnt about Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah. Boys have a Bar Mitzvah when they turn 13. It means they are responsible for their own decisions and actions. For girls it’s a Bat Mitzvah at 12. People throw sweets as a blessing.” Zakir

“In Drama we were improvising. We started off by playing a game called “Yes, let’s.”  Someone calls out something and we have to do it. We also played freeze. Mrs Hutchison calls out something, we do it and then she shouts freeze. Then we played Gibberish. We started off with someone doing something in gibberish, someone had to translate what they were doing for the audience.” Charlotte

“In topic we carried on creating presentations. The presentations were about animals in the polar regions. There were penguins, polar bears, arctic foxes, lemmings, and walruses and more. At the end we showed our presentations to the class.” Olivia

“In writing this week we worked on our stories. We had to describe settings and characters. We used the characters that we made up. Some people wrote happy stories, sad stories, spy stories and creepy stories. Lots of different genres.” Isla

“In maths we did some real life word problems involving measure. We had to find the total length of 6 pencils, 15 rubbers and dividing the class into 8 pieces.” Ross G

“In French we played a French version of Simon says called Jacque a dit. We practised our classroom instructions using the game.” Kaitlyn

Class Blog- 28th January

“On Thursday in music we learnt te-tiri.  It lasted for one beat. We were looking at the rhythm in music.” Amina

“In writing we were describing a setting for our characters that we created last week. We were using powerful language and personification to create the scene.” Rosie

“In drama we sat in a circle and were given a number. Mrs Hutchison called out a number, then we had to act something out. For example, like we had lost £100.” Alfie

“In literacy we looked at prefixes that mean one.  We were focusing on uni and mono. We highlighted the prefixes and we discussed what they all meant. WE also looked at the difference between its and it’s.” Ross G

“This week for topic we had to research animals in polar regions. Me and Amina found out about a yellow penguin!” Isla

“We had a visitor from East Ren Young Carers. He told us about how lots of people have parents or carers with disabilities and how they have to take  care of themselves and their carers.” Charlotte

“On Monday afternoon we were using our body parts to measure in the playground. Some people used their feet, some their whole bodies and some people even used their heads. We measured things like the running track and the fence.” Zakir

 

“For P.E in the MUGA we did some hockey. We set up 5 stations and worked on our hockey skills and fitness at each one.” Harris

We also did some rolls in gymnastics.

 

Class Blog- 21st January

“We were doing some philosophy. We did some fun activities and got to know about each other a bit better. First we did a seat swapping game, then we did a warm up with a talking stick saying my name is and ‘how do you do?’ We read an extract from a story then answered the questions, can you be nowhere and can something you say mean something else?” Lucy and Olivia

“In maths some of us were multiplying decimals by 10 and 100. We moved the numbers to the left. Some of us did some problem solving with fractions. Others did subtraction with exchanging.” Edward, Zakir and Alfie

“We did some measuring this week. We measured in metres and converted that to centimetres and a mix of metres and centimetres. We also estimated some objects in the playground’s length or height, then we measured to check.” Jenny

“We learnt about success and the bits people see and the other bits that they don’t. We designed flowers, icebergs and trees. At the top was success and below we put on the hidden things people do to be successful like hard work, determination, failure and trying again. Next to each thing we wrote we drew a picture to represent each one, it’s called a sketch note.” Isla

“In P.E we did fitness circuits. We split into 3 groups and there were 4 different exercises, sprinting, jogging, burpees and star jumps. Then we finished with a game of ‘duck, hero, meerkat.’” Ross G

“In drama we practised our mimes with Mrs Hutchison. We mimed blowing a balloon, being trapped in a box and picking a flower.” Jude

“In music we were clapping along to the notes in a song. Then we played the forbidden clapping game. There was a forbidden rhythm, we weren’t allowed to copy the forbidden rhythm.” Charlotte

We also started our new topic this week. We will be learning about animals that live in polar habitats. We did our first lesson where we tried a few activities as a taster of the new topic.

1st Post of 2022!

P6B have settled right back in after the holidays and we’ve had a busy week.

“In P.E we were doing tennis. The first thing we did was bouncing the ball up and down on the racquet. Then we got into partners and we were passing the ball to each other.” Charlotte

We’ve also begun a block of gymnastics and focused on stretches and balances today.

“We were learning about the brain and the different parts and how we use them to learn. We debated the question, is the brain the most important organ in the body. Most of us agreed that all organs are important. Then we made models out of either tissue paper or Lego showing the different parts of the brain. There were two types of brains you could make, either the basic 4 parts or the challenge of trying to show all the different parts.” Rosie and Becki

“With Mrs Hutchison we were doing drama. We needed to all become something and then freeze in that pose. We did a competition where 5 people had to do a freeze frame and then the others voted which was best.” Ross G

“We started to decide on a new topic, which is going to be something about nature. It’s either going to be blue planet, the rain forest or frozen planet. We watched some videos from each climate before we voted.” Ryan

“We started looking at measure in maths. We looked at current and historic units of measure, for example millimetres, paces, feet, miles, kilometres and hands. We used rulers to measure in centimetres and millimetres. 1 cm is 10mm. We also practised estimating lengths.” Dawud and Ross J.

“In literacy this week we read about New Year traditions and used this to practise clarifying words. We worked on our handwriting, we wrote the alphabet and our partners pointed out which letters needed some attention. In our writing lesson we learned about plot. We picked a story and thought about the beginning, build up, problem, resolution and ending. We talked about the 7 different types of plot, overcoming the monster, rebirth, voyage and return, tragedy, rags to riches, comedy and quest.” Helena, Alfie, Myra, Ross J, Ella, Haniya, Ryan, Emily, Becki and Isla

 

 

 

Week 16

“In writing this week we were writing in 1st person to describe the events from a short film. We were writing from the perspective of a character from the film, you could pick the character, either a boy or an alien.” Ava and Haniya

“We had our Christmas party this week. We had some drinks and snacks. Then we went to the hall and played pass the parcel, musical statues, the corner game and we danced.” Zakir

“In art with Mrs Hutchison we made labels for our sketch books. We learnt how to do bubble writing and used our shading and toning skills.” Lucy

“In the woodland we built Christmas sleighs and some people built a ginger bread café.” Rosie and Amina

“We used Tinkercad to design a new sleigh for Santa. First we watched a video about a company that had made a hover board (it took them 403 days). We designed a sleigh that could fly without reindeer.” Alfie and Ross J

“We did some science experiments. We worked in groups. We had to separate materials like paper clips and rice, flour and raisins, sand and water, and salt and water. We used magnets, filter paper and a funnel, and a sieve. Mr Flood boiled the salt and water until all the water evaporated and left the salt behind.” Helena and Daryn

“We made dodecahedrons and turned them until Christmas baubles. We got to decorate them in any way we liked. We had to glue them together using tabs and then they turned into Christmas baubles.”

Week 15

“On Wednesday morning we went to ADVENTure trail at the Baptist Church. We got to do crafts and they even performed a little drama. We were learning about the Christmas story and how Christians believe Jesus was born.” Rosie

“In science we were putting materials into water to see if they dissolved or not. We then filled out a sheet about what materials we used and how we did it.” Emily

“In Literacy we practised handwriting. We created dialogue for a silent film and practised speech marks. We also worked on our comprehension skills.” Zakir, Ella and Harris.

“In maths my group sorted decimals on a number line. We also counted up and down in decimals.” Dawud

“In maths our group practised algebra. We did some problem solving using alebra.” Charlotte and Alfie

We also took our maths work outside. In class we had debated if natural or artificial objects were more likely to be symmetrical. So, we found out my investigating around the school.
