Class Blog- 28th January

“On Thursday in music we learnt te-tiri.  It lasted for one beat. We were looking at the rhythm in music.” Amina

“In writing we were describing a setting for our characters that we created last week. We were using powerful language and personification to create the scene.” Rosie

“In drama we sat in a circle and were given a number. Mrs Hutchison called out a number, then we had to act something out. For example, like we had lost £100.” Alfie

“In literacy we looked at prefixes that mean one.  We were focusing on uni and mono. We highlighted the prefixes and we discussed what they all meant. WE also looked at the difference between its and it’s.” Ross G

“This week for topic we had to research animals in polar regions. Me and Amina found out about a yellow penguin!” Isla

“We had a visitor from East Ren Young Carers. He told us about how lots of people have parents or carers with disabilities and how they have to take  care of themselves and their carers.” Charlotte

“On Monday afternoon we were using our body parts to measure in the playground. Some people used their feet, some their whole bodies and some people even used their heads. We measured things like the running track and the fence.” Zakir

“For P.E in the MUGA we did some hockey. We set up 5 stations and worked on our hockey skills and fitness at each one.” Harris

We also did some rolls in gymnastics.

Class Blog- 21st January

“We were doing some philosophy. We did some fun activities and got to know about each other a bit better. First we did a seat swapping game, then we did a warm up with a talking stick saying my name is and ‘how do you do?’ We read an extract from a story then answered the questions, can you be nowhere and can something you say mean something else?” Lucy and Olivia

“In maths some of us were multiplying decimals by 10 and 100. We moved the numbers to the left. Some of us did some problem solving with fractions. Others did subtraction with exchanging.” Edward, Zakir and Alfie

“We did some measuring this week. We measured in metres and converted that to centimetres and a mix of metres and centimetres. We also estimated some objects in the playground’s length or height, then we measured to check.” Jenny

“We learnt about success and the bits people see and the other bits that they don’t. We designed flowers, icebergs and trees. At the top was success and below we put on the hidden things people do to be successful like hard work, determination, failure and trying again. Next to each thing we wrote we drew a picture to represent each one, it’s called a sketch note.” Isla

“In P.E we did fitness circuits. We split into 3 groups and there were 4 different exercises, sprinting, jogging, burpees and star jumps. Then we finished with a game of ‘duck, hero, meerkat.’” Ross G

“In drama we practised our mimes with Mrs Hutchison. We mimed blowing a balloon, being trapped in a box and picking a flower.” Jude

“In music we were clapping along to the notes in a song. Then we played the forbidden clapping game. There was a forbidden rhythm, we weren’t allowed to copy the forbidden rhythm.” Charlotte

We also started our new topic this week. We will be learning about animals that live in polar habitats. We did our first lesson where we tried a few activities as a taster of the new topic.

1st Post of 2022!

P6B have settled right back in after the holidays and we’ve had a busy week.

“In P.E we were doing tennis. The first thing we did was bouncing the ball up and down on the racquet. Then we got into partners and we were passing the ball to each other.” Charlotte

We’ve also begun a block of gymnastics and focused on stretches and balances today.

“We were learning about the brain and the different parts and how we use them to learn. We debated the question, is the brain the most important organ in the body. Most of us agreed that all organs are important. Then we made models out of either tissue paper or Lego showing the different parts of the brain. There were two types of brains you could make, either the basic 4 parts or the challenge of trying to show all the different parts.” Rosie and Becki

“With Mrs Hutchison we were doing drama. We needed to all become something and then freeze in that pose. We did a competition where 5 people had to do a freeze frame and then the others voted which was best.” Ross G

“We started to decide on a new topic, which is going to be something about nature. It’s either going to be blue planet, the rain forest or frozen planet. We watched some videos from each climate before we voted.” Ryan

“We started looking at measure in maths. We looked at current and historic units of measure, for example millimetres, paces, feet, miles, kilometres and hands. We used rulers to measure in centimetres and millimetres. 1 cm is 10mm. We also practised estimating lengths.” Dawud and Ross J.

“In literacy this week we read about New Year traditions and used this to practise clarifying words. We worked on our handwriting, we wrote the alphabet and our partners pointed out which letters needed some attention. In our writing lesson we learned about plot. We picked a story and thought about the beginning, build up, problem, resolution and ending. We talked about the 7 different types of plot, overcoming the monster, rebirth, voyage and return, tragedy, rags to riches, comedy and quest.” Helena, Alfie, Myra, Ross J, Ella, Haniya, Ryan, Emily, Becki and Isla
