Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

Welcome to the pages for Mearns Castle High School’s
Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity improvement team pages.

We hope to share relevant information and feature the organisations who have supported the work that has been carried out so far in the school.

We have chosen to focus on these three key areas for the work we are developing with this improvement team:
Sexual Orientation is about who we are physically and emotionally attracted to;
Gender Identity is about our sense of self and what we identify as; and
Gender Expression is about how we go about expressing our gender identity through appearance, dress and behaviour.

PROMOTING POSITIVE LANGUAGE POSTERS

Over the past couple of years, the improvement team which includes young people and staff have been developing materials for display in classrooms and around the school to challenge some of the negative language used and to help dispell any myths surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity.

These posters can be accessed if you click here.
