Hair Raising…..

In addition to the toy shop role play chosen by the children, we are learning about hairdressers and what an important job they have.

This learning is in response to a small incident that happened last week.

A group of children decided they wanted to ‘play at being hairdressers’….only a tiny fraction of hair was actually cut off…(eeekkkk), with staff quickly intervening before further damage ensued!

Well….what a learning opportunity if ever there was one 🙂 We are extending children’s learning by supporting children to understand rules about safety and the ‘proper’ channels for getting a trim!

Chinese New Year 2017

Chinese New Year is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar.

Here are a some photos of our children enjoying a Chinese themed snack consisting of noodles rice crispy seaweed lychees and green tea! The children worked really hard to handle the chop sticks which caused a lot of hilarity! Children improved hand skills and hand eye coordination using the chop sticks and also when pouring their own Chinese Green Tea from the beautiful Chinese tea pot.

The children were inspired by the Chinese New Year decorations, newspaper and calendar and used the items to begin putting their own ideas and thoughts on paper….some children had a go at writing some Chinese characters and we all practised saying ‘Kung Hei Fat Choi’.

Celebrating Burns Day 2017

The children had a wonderful day celebrating the Bards birthday on 25th January.

We had recently sampled the traditional haggis, neeps and tatties during St. Andrew’s Day celebrations in November, so for our Burns Supper the children decided to taste a variety of Scottish foods. The children all voted for the food they wanted most and counted the votes using tally marks.

Have a look at our photo gallery below!

Sessions for our afternoon children will take place on a Friday, beginning on Friday 3rd February. Again, there is no need to book a place. The Sports Coach for the afternoon session is Connor Davidson.

25 Days of Kindness

Our ’25 Days of Kindness’ has drawn to a close today after 5 weeks of planning and implementation. The children have had a truly wonderful learning experience and can readily share their learning about the importance of giving to others.

Children have had opportunities throughout this time to talk about children and their families who may not have enough food to sustain them. The children have discovered this is true for our neighbours in East Renfrewshire as well as for children and families in far away countries.

Thank you so much for your support in this learning experience. Here are some photographs of the children delivering the items to St. Andrews Church Foodbank in Barrhead.
