The Show

The children decided they wanted to put on a show today.

Ayanna came and told us she needed facepaint as it would “make us all better actors”, so we had to oblige!

The children then discussed lots of ideas about how to plan for a perfect show. Emilia reflected on her personal experiences when she told everybody that lights are important saying “we really need the lights off,  then on when we go on the stage. They did that at Disney on Ice”.

Luca and Mehr were excited to use the home made microphones and Sebastian and Eesa were keen to be photographer and videographed.

The children developed lots of curricular skills during this self directed interdisciplinary play experience including listening, sharing ideas, taking turns, IT skills, performing, celebrating success, designing, solving problems and had so much fun at the same time.

Well done everybody.

Chinese New Year 2017

Chinese New Year is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar.

Here are a some photos of our children enjoying a Chinese themed snack consisting of noodles rice crispy seaweed lychees and green tea! The children worked really hard to handle the chop sticks which caused a lot of hilarity! Children improved hand skills and hand eye coordination using the chop sticks and also when pouring their own Chinese Green Tea from the beautiful Chinese tea pot.

The children were inspired by the Chinese New Year decorations, newspaper and calendar and used the items to begin putting their own ideas and thoughts on paper….some children had a go at writing some Chinese characters and we all practised saying ‘Kung Hei Fat Choi’.

Outdoor Play 2017

The children at IMFC play outside every day, no matter what the weather!

Children learn so many valuable skills whilst accessing the outdoor spaces for learning; from self help skills and independence whilst getting dressed and undressed for outdoors to safety when handling tools, sharing and co-operation with others not to mention team work, problem solving and self-risk management!

The children may go home a little muddy on occasion but we know it is well worth it!

Remember, the children are all wrapped up well against the cold and there are more germs in the nursery playroom than there are outdoors so please encourage your child to explore the outdoors as much as possible!

Have a look at the photo gallery and I’m sure you will be amazed at the wealth of learning taking place outwith the doors of the playrooms 🙂
