In Scotland, every nursery class is supported and periodically inspected by the ‘Care Inspectorate’, a national organisation that provides a very important part of self-evaluation and improvement processes.

As part of this, about every 2-5 years the Care Inspectorate inspects every nursery class. These inspections are unannounced and involve a small team of inspectors spending several days at the nursery class, working alongside school staff, to evaluate strengths and next steps.
