CROOKFUR PRIMARY SCHOOL PARENT COUNCIL

What is the Crookfur Primary School Parent Council (PC)?

The Parent Council is a committee appointed to represent all parents/carers who have a child at the school – known as the Parent Forum. It is run by some of the parents/carers in the school rather than by the school or local authority. Every school is required to have a Parent Council under the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006.

The Parent Council is not the same as a School Board as we don’t have responsibility for the school. We just work with the School Management to ensure parents voices are heard. Our Constitution (rules) can be found below.

Constitution-September-2022-FINAL

The dates of the Parent Council meetings can be found on the school website, the Parent Calendar in the weekly round-up newsletters issued by the school.

There are parent representatives for each year group. The representatives for 2022/23 are:

  • P1 – Catherine McLatchie, Samra Naureen, Cindy Paton
  • P2 – James Campbell (Treasurer), Jenni MacKinnon, Krys Kujawa
  • P3 – Maaham Ahmad, Sarah Penny, Amna Munir
  • P4 – Melanie McPhail-Smith, Lynsey Williams, Ailsa Munro (Secretary)
  • P5 – Conor Murphy, Christie Alexander
  • P6 – Beverly Stoner, Michelle Wilson, Laura Crichton
  • P7 –Kari Gillies (Vice Chair), Allyson Gilchrist, Jenny McLellan
  • Co-opted member: Denny Henderson (Chair)
  • Family Centre Liaison – Melanie

You can see what we all look like here. All members adhere to the Code of Conduct and Social Media Policy.

What is the Aim of the PC?

  • Help the school to operate successfully and represent all parents/carers.
  • Improve links between all parents/carers and the school.
  • Ensure parents receive the information they need in an accessible way, and that school staff receives feedback on parents’ views.
  • Discuss issues of interest to parents, i.e. school policies.
  • Optimise parental involvement in their children’s learning.
  • Be involved in recruitment of new senior staff.
  • Social and fundraising activities (NB: at Crookfur this is undertaken by a sub-committee called the Fundraising & Social Committee)

What happens at Parent Council meetings?

There are 6 or 7 meetings each year which take place in the evening from 7pm – 9pm in the Eastwood Sports Centre.

Meetings are attended by the Parent Reps, Mrs McGuigan and other members of school management. We also invite the local councillors to each of our meetings. Other parents/carers are always welcome to attend meetings to observe but are not permitted to speak/vote at the meetings.

The first meeting, in September, is the Annual General Meeting where any new parent reps are appointed and the office bearers for the year (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary & Treasurer). A report of the previous years activities, including the financial report, is also presented. The Report for 2021/22 is here.

At the other meetings, an agenda is prepared with the topics to be discussed.

What does the PC not do?

Pursue issues regarding individual pupils or parents. These should be discussed with the Class Teacher or Head Teacher as appropriate.

How can I contact the Parent Council?

Parents/carers can contact their year group representative with any issues they would like to raise, or email the Chair at CrookfurParentCouncil@gmail.com

There is also a Facebook Page and Twitter account @CrookfurPC and there are regular updates in Mrs McGuigan’s weekly round-ups.
