The Olympic Project

On Wednesday (20th June), S3 will take part in a cross curricular event promoting Literacy & Health and Wellbeing across the curriculum. Building on knowledge developed throughout the year in a variety of different subjects, the event uses London 2012 as its inspiration and allows the young people of Barrhead High School to participate in a variety of Olympic events.

The format of the day is as follows:

Periods 1-4:

The task will be explained at an assembly in the morning, before the young people carousel the various tasks (Table Tennis, Tennis & Cycling.)

In addition, the pupils will spend a period in a classroom where the explanation for the afternoon task will take place.
This will involve giving background information relating to the different Olympic events and beginning to put together ideas for possible content in the afternoon presentation.

Period 5:

The groups will create their own presentation reflecting on a particular event in which they took part.
The skills, experiences and difficulties faced will make up the presentation.

Period 6:

The groups will perform their presentation which will be filmed.
There will be 5 different groups for the presentation in the afternoon.
EACH MEMBER of the group will be responsible for delivering a specific section of the presentation.

Ocean Youth Trust

Congratulations to Amy Toal, Shannon Peacock and Chelsea Gallagher who recently completed a 5 day sailing trip from Oban to Jura with the Ocean Youth Trust. The girls had a fantastic time learning new skills and meeting new people from other schools in East Renfrewshire. We are all very proud of their achievement.

Pulse FM

Pulse Fm our community radio station is this week celebrating the work of East Renfrewshire Schools.  As part of the celebrations a lunch time concert was held in Barrhead High.

Thank you to all who played but a special mention to ex pupil Gregor Coleman who along with his band Supernova prove to be a huge hit – we wish them every success in the future.

Green Flag

Barrhead High is delighted to announce it is now officially a Green Flag school. The themes chosen for our application were Health & Well Being, Biodiversity and Litter. Feedback from our application was extremely positive and already we are working towards our second Green Flag. Thank you and well done to everyone who has contribute towards this outstanding achievement.
