Curriculum

Curriculum rationale and design

Our vision, values and aims underpin our curriculum rationale. By ‘curriculum’, we mean every aspect of school life.

Our young people shared their vision for the future curriculum to help inform our journey.

The rationale can be summed up by our Barrhead Capacities:

  • We want our young people to be successful learners who are enthusiastic about learning and set aspirational goals.
  • We want our young people to live our school values so that they leave Barrhead High with the confidence to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
  • We want our young people to be active citizens with an awareness of global issues who use their voice to campaign for change.
  • We want our young people to embrace opportunities to develop their resilience and contribute effectively to society.

Overarching ’employability skills’

We have a responsibility to ensure all learners can not only learn a range of skills, but confidently articulate them. Learners should have the opportunity to highlight and discuss the skills used in lessons, and apply these skills to other areas of the curriculum and their life outside of school to prepare for the world of work.

We have identified a set of  overarching ‘employability skills‘:

  1. Numeracy
  2. Literacy
  3. Digital literacy
  4. Communication
  5. Self management
  6. Problem solving
  7. Teamwork
  8. Creativity
  9. Resilience
  10. Data literacy
  11. Leadership
