Willowbank School, KilmarnockWe have been learning about butterflies in the Sunflowers class. Today we watched a video about what happens. The egg hatches into a caterpillar and eats lots of food before building a cocoon and then turned into a butterfly. We then stuck images from “The Hungry Caterpillar” book in order from the egg to the butterfly.
We will get caterpillars in the new year and watch then grow and then finally turn into butterflies and let them free in the playground.
The Sunflowers were confident individuals as they explored Kay Park this morning. We had a shot on all of the equipment and then had a walk around the park. We found the lions!
This week has been a super busy and super fun week. We started our literacy streaming for the first time which went well and made did lots of Halloween activities. We decorated our class pumpkins like Woody from Toy story and a mummy. We made Dracula pictures with our hand prints and had fun dressing up on Friday and loved Singing Hands being at our school. It was super exciting. 
Our theme is the Hungry Caterpillar. We were able to identify some fruits and vegetables and use these to complete some art work. We cut up the fruit and vegetables and dipped them in paint and made printing patterns on the paper. We investigated the print in made. Some worked better than others. We really liked the pear shape it made. We used carrots, potatoes, apples and pears.
On Thursday afternoon we watched Singing Hands tell the story of The Hungry Caterpillar using signs. The we matching pictures from the story to a matching board. We also had number leaves and were finding the correct numbered leaf.
Yesterday we explore our school garden and collected. We then used the leaves we collected to create either a hedgehog or an owl. We used glue and stuck them on our picture. We were looking at the many different colours of leaves in the garden when we were collected them trying to get lots of different colours.
The Sunflower class have settled well into p1. We all attend assembly weekly.We can sit and listen to classes share information and news during their class assembly. Some of us have already received the star of the week certificate and were able to stand up and be sung to receiving their star of the week award. They were even able to help stick their certificate on the wall for everyone to see.
We were all able to sit at the front of the assembly and be confident individuals during our class assembly. We were able to hold up the SHANARRI indicators at the correct time and share out learning with the primary classes. 
The Sunflowers class were very excited to go on their first bus trip today. We were responsible citizens on the bus, and once we got to Hansel we all chose a snack. We went for a walk around the grounds before it was time to go back to school.
The Sunflowers Class had a nice walk to Scotmid this morning. We were all responsible citizens walking nicely round to the shop, buying bread and brining it back to school. We then had some toast and practised our spreading skills.
Today we had a Macmillan snack morning with all the other infant classes. Yesterday during our cookery time we decorated cakes and biscuits with two different types of icing and used sprinkled. We had to use the rolling pin to roll one type of icing and then mix the other type using a spoon. We had lots of fun and were confident at rolling and mixing independently at times. Today we sat at a very long table in the corridor with lots of our friends and ate some green snacks and some of our own snacks too. It was an enjoyable morning.
