Bonfire Night

The Moonbeams enjoyed learning about Bonfire night. The children chose to create cupcakes in the shape of a bonfire and stamped fireworks with paint colours. The children were all very engaged in these activities and enjoyed tasting the cakes.

FAOL: Enterprise – Halloween Biscuits

IDL: Food and Technologies – Bird Feeders

Successful Learners   Confident Individuals

As part of our Food theme the Moonbeams wanted to explore bird seeds and make bird feeders. The children worked well together to make the feeders. The Moonbeams will hang them up around the sensory garden on Monday and hopefully observe the birds eating them.

 

The Moonbeams had great fun singing songs about food using the stretchy band.

National Maths Week

Successful Learners    Confident Individuals

The Moonbeams have been learning through a variety of math concepts this week.  They have been identifying shapes and making pictures. They have been counting objects related to their theme. The children enjoyed making musical instruments using foods. They were counting out and measuring the dried foods using measuring jugs and pouring them into bottles of different sizes.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Effective Contributors    Responsible Citizens

The Moonbeams enjoyed helping to raise awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support today. Along with the rest of the school, the pupils took part in making a cupcake art craft for their class. The children also dressed in green and purple. This afternoon they enjoyed decorating some biscuits with green icing.

The Moonbeams have been learning that not all children are lucky enough to have food and water at every meal time. The children expressed their emotions as plates were handed out to them. Some plates had plenty of food, some had very little food and others had none. The children identified their emotions on the board to show how they felt about their plates.

FAOL: Science – Marshmallow Slime

The Moonbeams had great fun investigating the changes of ingredients during this science activity. The children observed the difference in texture when the marshmallows were melted and then felt the changes with their hands as the cornflour and oil were added. They had great fun playing with the slime and they all thought it smelled lovely!

Investigating foods with seeds

The Moonbeams have had great fun learning through food this week. The Moonbeams were inquisitive Scientists as they explored and investigated fruit and vegetables with seeds of different sizes. They discovered that some foods had none, only a few or too many to count. The Magnifying glasses helped them see the really small seeds clearly. The children had great fun especially squishing the tomatoes and making lots of mess!

Investigating where Eggs and Milk comes from

The Moonbeams were learning how eggs and milk were made at the farm. The children were very interested in the processes and had great fun exploring eggs both raw and boiled. They especially enjoyed pretending to milk a cow!

IDL – Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs: Fun with Food!

The Moonbeams have loved learning about food this week through our new theme, Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs. The children have been practicing  Makaton signs for days of the week and food in order to help them choose and create a weekly menu. They all looked delicious!

The children had great fun during a sensory food lesson. They were using various types of utensils and their hands to explore and play with both cooked and dry spaghetti, rice and mashed potato!
