Respect Me – Parent Twilight Training Sessions – Sign Up Now!

Dear Onthank Families,

Mr Swan and Mrs Boyd recently presented to RespectMe and East Ayrshire representatives on our school achievements in sharing the vision and ethos of this service throughout our school community.

Onthank Primary have been praised, with our virtual presentation, narrated by Mr Swan, being shared with other schools locally and nationally to influence positive change and engagement.

RespectMe are now offering two additional twilight sessions for Onthank parents to join and be trained  as Workshop Facilitators. You will work closely with Mr Swan and Mrs Boyd to create parent and pupil opportunities to ensure our message of kindness, safety and respectful relationships is understood and delivered at Onthank.

WORKSHOP DATES:

Wednesday 25th November 6.30pm – 7.30pm

Wednesday 2nd December 6.30pm – 8pm

You will be required to participate in both sessions, which will be delivered virtually. After signing up, Mr Swan will be in contact with the relevant links.

We are very excited about this additional opportunity and hope to have as many parents/carers involved. Please complete the FORM below to sign up.

Learning Pack Collection Reminder

Dear Families,

We are incredibly proud of our young people accessing and making great use of our online learning resources. Well done and keep up the great work!

We would like to remind our families Learning Packs were created by staff for all young people and some are waiting for collection from our Main Office if you have not already picked it up.

Please can we encourage you to collect your young person’s Learning Pack by the end of this week.

If you arrive at our Main Entrance, there will be a phone number to call for access to receive your pack.

P5/6/7 Youth Club Reminder

Dear P5/6/7 Families,

We are having an excellent term so far at Youth Club with our young people creating the format of the sessions, providing activity choices and planning events! Unfortunately we don’t think a school sleepover can be accommodated!!

We would like to remind families Youth Club starts at 5.30pm and invite young people to arrive from 5.20pm at the earliest as adult supervision will not be provided until this time.

Onthank at Inverclyde

Mrs Wright had a fabulous visit to Inverclyde and was very proud of all the Onthank pupils. Staff from the centre commented on how well everyone was getting on and how pupils and staff supported each other. Pupils were full of stories about water sports, cycling around Millport, trampolining and much more.  Due to internet challenges we will share pictures and videos when the children return.

I am delighted to announce our P6/7 Dance Ambassadors have been selected to perform at Dance Fest 2020 – congratulations for qualifying!

PERFORMANCE DATE: Wednesday 25th March 2020

VENUE: The Palace Theatre, Green Street, Kilmarnock KA1 3BN

TIME: 7pm – 9pm

TICKET PRICE: £8/£6

All members of our school community are invited to support our P6/7 Dance Ambassadors and cheer on #ouronthank

Our 2020 Team will be taken by bus to The Palace Theatre on Wednesday 26th March at 2:30pm for a Dress Rehearsal on stage. The young people will then stay at the venue for the remainder of the evening with school staff. If you are a parent/carer and would also like to volunteer to supervise our team prior to the performance please let Mr Swan know.

Your child will need to bring a packed dinner to school on the day – as healthy as possible please prior to dancing!

Dancers will be given a costume requirements list from Mr Swan next week which he can speak through with at parent/carers on collection.

A DVD of the performance will be available to order on the evening through The Palace.

Gym Kits

Hi everyone

We are looking for some help.  Many of our pupils don’t have full gym kits which makes it harder for them to access the full curriculum correctly.

If you have any spare gym shoes or shorts that your children have outgrown would you be kind enough to send it to the school and we can have a bank of kits to help all pupils take P.E.?

First Minister’s Reading Challenge – Dyslexia Friendly Schools

Today our DFS ambassadors (P4K) have been busy organising the launch of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge.

It is believed that reading has the power to change lives and that developing a love of reading in childhood can have a huge impact on educational attainment and future wellbeing.

The First Minister’s Reading Challenge is open to every pupil in P1-P7 in Scotland. We know that reading journeys can be personal to every single child but, to encourage and motivate schools and pupils to get involved, a number of challenges have been set that we hope will inspire and develop a love of reading.

OUR ACTIVITIES – SIGN UP NOW & PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION

Families,

Please see all information below regarding our After School Activities and complete the form below.

For activities starting at 3pm young people will be collected from their class and taken to the area of the school where the activity will be led, then chaperoned to the main office for collection. Any activities after 3pm, can all young people please congregate at the main office where they will be collected.

Please pay close attention to the START DATE of each activity and any durations noted. If a duration is not noted the activity will run to the Easter Holiday.

When Gymnastics starts (17.02.20) pupils are encouraged to wear their gym kit. P3/4 pupils will change at the end of the day. If the numbers for gymnastics are high, you will receive a letter from Mr Swan to inform you if we will operate a Group 1/Group 2 split.

PARENT/CARER VOLUNTEERS – if you have availability to support any of our activities, working alongside Mr Swan and OPS staff, please contact Mr Swan on steven.swan@east-ayrshire.gov.uk or give your details to Mrs Andrew at the office.

We have tried to accommodate pupil/community voice in the creation of Our Activities and are already working hard to secure those activities which currently do not appear. We thank you for you cooperation and support here.

Koala Protectors

As a RRS we have a duty to offer support where we can to other countries in need.

The pupils have been discussing the tragedy in Australia and have been asking how we can help.

We have made a donation to the WWF charity to become ‘Koala Protectors’. Our donation will help towards the care needed to help injured koalas and to help in the restoration phase after the fires.

We will also receive updates from WWF.

Our actions have helped towards the following Global Goals for Sustainable Development…

Lucy Pear Visits P4

Last year P1-4 enjoyed a visit from the author Chris Duke who wrote the book ‘Lucy’s Blue Day’. This is a delightful little book which is a stimulus for discussing emotions.

Lucy Pear has magical hair which changes colour depending on her emotions. Lucy is excited when her hair is purple, angry when it is red and blue when she feels sad.

She soon learns that it is #OkNotToBeOk and that these feelings will soon pass.

Violet in P4K was so excited to waken up on Christmas morning to discover that Santa had brought her a Lucy doll. Lucy visited the ‘Rocks’ rotation group during Health and Wellbeing and she listened to the class checking in with their hair colour of the day.

Children's Mental Health Week 2020 will take place from 3rd February – 9th February 2020 and as always we will be supporting our pupils by offering opportunities to share experiences, emotions and we will have a focus on the theme ' Find Your Brave'. More information to follow.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES INFORMATION

Dear Families,

Onthank Primary staff, along with Active Schools, have already drafted a Jan-March 2020 ‘Our Onthank Activities’ which will be shared on the Blog at the end of the week when all details/staff have been confirmed.

You will then be able to sign your young person up for as many after school activities as they wish!

The range of activities comes after your community voice feedback on the Blog questionnaire over the holiday. Please be assured we are working hard to accommodate and schedule all requests. There is still time to complete this and we warmly invite you and your young person to do so.

ACTIVITIES WILL START WEEK BEGINNING MONDAY 20TH JANUARY.

RRS – Global Goals

In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for a better world by 2030. These goals have the power to end poverty, fight inequality and address the urgency of climate change.

As we are now in 2020 there are only 10 years to achieve these goals for sustainable development.

Everyone can contribute to making sure the Global Goals are met.

As a Rights Respecting School we will be familiarising ourselves again with these goals and be considering how we can help to make a real difference.

P4 have been learning about the Global Goals during Health and Wellbeing time. Everyone is very motivated to play their part.

SANTA DASH INFORMATION

SANTA DASH – FRIDAY 20TH DECEMBER

On our final day of term, Friday 20th December, and to celebrate Christmas Onthank style, our school will be raising funds in our very first ‘Santa Dash’!

Pupils are invited to dress up with a Santa accessory (Hat/beard/suit/full costume!) and each stage will walk/jog/run around the school building singing Christmas songs!

Pupils will stay with their class, teacher and be supervised by additional staff throughout our Santa Dash!

Family members are invited to join their young person on the Santa Dash – dressed up together! If you intend on participating, please arrive at the main office 15 minutes prior to the starting time.

This information will also be given in letter form to all young people tomorrow.

ONTHANK’S ELF IS COMING TO TOWN – SHOW INFORMATION

Dear Families,

IT’S SHOW WEEK @ ONTHANK PRIMARY… AND EVERYONE IS INVITED!

Our P6/7 pupils have been working incredibly hard to bring this festive tale to life and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas @ #ouronthank  and this week we will see their efforts come to fruition!

So please remember the invitation is warmly extended to our full community, not just P6/7 families.

Book your tickets now on Parent Pay! 

Can all P7 pupils please arrive at school on Monday and Wednesday at 6pm prompt for costume, notes and final preparation bringing everything they need for the performance. They will be met by Mr Swan and guided to the Gym Hall by staff.

Can all P6 pupils please arrive at school on Monday and Wednesday at 6.30pm prompt IN COSTUME where they will be met by their teacher and guided to the Gym Hall by staff.

The show will start at 7pm prompt and  finish at 8:30pm (approx.) where all pupils will then be safely signed out to families from the Main Hall.

Pupils will also need their costume for the performance on Tuesday @ 10am. P6 pupils can wear their costume to school if easier for the family.

COMMUNITY NIGHT PHOTOSHOOT TIMES!

Good Evening Families,

As promised by Mr Swan, please see below the time slots for those families who have signed up for our Christmas Photoshoot with Mrs Pearson during tomorrow’s Community Night.

Mr Swan last checked the sign up document at 6.15pm and has created this table based on those sign ups in the hope of accommodating your requests. Sincere thanks for your support here.

If you signed up, however your name is not in the timetable, please comment below and Mr Swan will be happy to check and amend.

ANY SUBSEQUENT SIGN UPS PLEASE SELECT A TIMESLOT WHICH IS AVAILBLE/FREE. 

The photoshoot will take place at the back of the Main Hall and we encourage you to arrive 5  minutes prior to your slot.

If you arrive at Community Night wishing a photograph having not booked, Mrs Pearson will be happy to accommodate. However, please be advised this will be subsequent to availability as per the schedule below.

Dear Families,

What a wonderful season we have had at Performing Arts at Onthank Primary! Thank you to all our young stars and their families for your continued support, encouragement and enthusiasm.

This week (Thursday 28th November) will be the last week of Performing Arts Club for the year.

Performing Arts will be back again in the New Year as our young people start work on their summer showcase – we can’t wait to welcome everyone back!
