We are delighted that our 1st and 2nd place winners have now been invited to attend the National Burns Competitions to represent Ayrshire later this year! 🤩

World Book Day 2024 UPDATE

Apologies for the error in the previous post, World Book Day will be celebrated on THURSDAY next week, 7th March.

A wee reminder that chidlren are encouraged to come to school dressed as a book character or wearing their pyjamas and bringing their favourite bedtime story.

On Monday next week, children will be visiting the Book Fair with their class to make their wish list. Parents/carers then have the opportunity to purchase the books online. (Instructions will be noted on the wish list sent home.)

Next Tuesday, we will be selling Bargain Books from the Book Fair, priced £2 or less. These will be cash only sales as these books cannot be reordered once purchased. Children will be given the chance to purchase from the Bargain Books stall on Tuesday only, so please send them with money on this day, should they wish to look.

We will be holding our Big Book Swap on Thursday. If you have any old books in good condition that your child no longer reads, please send them into school, any day from Monday. Mrs Clarke will issue your child with a ticket which will enable to be first to visit the book swap on Thursday to choose a new book.

In addition to this, running all of next week, we are having a ‘GET CAUGHT READING’ competition, where children are to upload a photograph of themselves reading in a different or unusual place, and add this to their Learning Journals as a Parental Contribution.

Our P7 Reading Schools Champions will then review the uploads and will choose a winner to receive a free book from the Book Fair! These photos must be uploaded by Wednesday and the winner will be shared on World Book Day, on Thursday.

Ayrshire Burns Competition 2024

Dear parents/carers of children who are entered in the Ayrshire Burns Schools Competition this Saturday.

I have received updated information regarding timings of the event. Please see below from Schools Convenor, Beth Kerr:

Numbers are high, especially in the Primary Verse Speaking sections and as a result we have decided to start registration earlier to allow time to process all entries. Registration will now start at 11am and close at 12.30pm.

We are also going to hold two welcome sessions, 12.35 and 12.50. It’s important that all families attend a welcome session in the Main assembly hall as vital safety information will be given at this time. The children will be informed at registration which welcome session they should attend.

In light of this information, I ask families to meet me in the main reception area at 11.30am. Bring a packed lunch with you and you can eat this whilst you wait before the welcome meeting. This will also give me time to meet with children and get photographs before we are all split into the different disciplines.

I have met with all children this week as part of our final preparations and they know which areas to work on, if any. I’m so proud of the progress they have made and the confidence they show in their performances!

Please remember children should be dressed in full school uniform on Saturday with a touch or tartan if they have any. I have tartan sashes should anyone need something on the day. We also have a bank of school shirts and ties here. Please email me or contact me at the school should you need any prior to the weekend.

Kind regards,

Mrs McNulty

On Saturday, 2 of our pupils were invited to perform at the New Cumnock Parish Church Burns Supper.

Amy addressed the haggis as well as recited ‘To a Mouse’ and Aleesha sang, ‘John Anderson, My Jo’. We are very proud of you girls for taking your talents out into the wider community!

Well done girls! ⭐
