P7 Residential Trip 2025

The time is getting closer for our P7s to head away on their Residential Trip, so to help with preparations, please find a wee reminder of the Kit List attached with suggestions of what to pack.

Please remember, that children are responsible for taking their own luggage, so be wary to not overpack!

Medication

Please also note, all medication which is required to be taken which is not currently kept in school, must have a medical form completed by a parent/carer (these can be sourced from the main office) and medicine handed into school on Tuesday before we leave. Children should not be packing any medication in their luggage, this will be the responsibility of staff to carry.

Technology

Mobile phones and other forms of technology are not permitted. Mrs McNulty and Mrs Frew will be taking lots of videos and pictures which will be shared on our communication platforms throughout the trip. Should you need to contact your child in an emergency, please contact the school and the school will contact Mrs McNulty or Mrs Frew.

Our days and evenings will be filled with lots of activities, however should your child wish to take something to entertain themselves with, I would encourage bringing cards/dominoes/a book. Something that is small to fit in their luggage.

If you have any questions or queries. Please contact Mrs McNulty or Mrs Frew.

We are delighted to share that thanks to successful fundraising efforts and funding applications from our Parent Council, P7 parents/carers will be receiving a refund through ParentPay, from the overall cost of the residential trip.

We are VERY grateful for the following:

Each family will receive a refund of £81.52 through ParentPay. (This should by complete in June, we thank you for your patience with processing this.) (For those pupils who joined us later in the school session, and didn’t require the £50 deposit, they will be receiving a refund of £31.52.)

Walk to School Week

This week is Walk to School Week 2025 and the JRSO’s are encouraging everyone to walk to school (where possible).

In partnership with our Parent Council, we invite everyone to wear brightly coloured ‘Shorts and Shades’ for a Dress Down Day on Friday 23rd May to celebrate the end of Walk to School Week.

We ask that to take part in Dress Down Day, you bring a chocolate donation which will be used to make hampers for our upcoming Summer Fayre.

Walk to School Week competition entries are also due in on Friday. Good luck, everyone! 🙂

Mental Health Awareness Week 12th-16th May 2025

New Cumnock Primary School Promote & Celebrate Mental Health Week Scotland!

The children and staff of New Cumnock Primary School have had a fantastic week participating in a variety of activities that have promoted strategies that help support and maintain good mental health. This has ranged from classroom activities that have fostered kindness and empathy, art activities, group games, dancing, reading and relaxation. As well as this the children have had the opportunity to go outside and enjoy the sunshine and nature, either through local walks, the school garden and playground area.

We have also been fortunate enough to have visiting specialists in to deliver sessions:

First we had Sharon McQuillan, a GP referral conditions specialist from ‘ShapeShift Fitness & Wellbeing Studio’ in Auchinleck, who came in to deliver clinical yoga for the day.

Then we had Laura Pagan; Sport, Health and Wellbeing Coordinator for ‘New Cumnock Development Trust’ (NCDT) who came in to deliver Clubbercise for the day; while Tammy Borthwick, Community Engagement Officer, also for NCDT, came to deliver ‘Get Jiggy with Geraldine’ for the P1 & P1/2 classes.

Finally, we had Tommy Milgrew; a professional badminton coach based in East Ayrshire, who came in to deliver sessions for the day.

We can’t thank these people enough for the time they have given to the school out of their busy schedules, and for the skills and knowledge they have passed on to our children. We have been very fortunate this year to secure these experiences, which have indeed had a positive effect. Our children have been so enthusiastic during sessions and full of buzz afterwards because of their achievements and how uplifted these activities have made them feel.

As well as all of this, Michael McRobert from ‘McRobert’s Tae Kwon do School’, based in the south of East Ayrshire, who is part of theTae Kwon do Association of Great Britain, has very kindly offered a day of his time in June in so that all children at New Cumnock Primary School can experience this martial art for themselves.

Our wee school is full of buzz, happiness and positivity! Hopefully, all their experiences will stay with them and help them along the road of life so that they have a great one!

Dress Down Day

Sports Day 2025

Our Sports Day was held today at the Glens Park. We were very grateful of the lovely weather we had!

Each of our House teams led a victory march around the pitch to kick start our Sports Day celebrations.

A huge thank you to our parents and carers who came along to cheer on and support our children as they competed in their class flat races and novelty races as well as our upper house relays.

The Sports Day points will be added to the shields and our overall winning House will be announced at our annual Prize Giving on Wednesday 18th June.

A huge thank you to the Glens Park for hosting our Sports Day and allowing us to use your facilities!

Sun Safety

At Get Together this morning we discussed sun safety. ☀️
With this lovely weather we have been having, it is important our young people remember to:
Slip 👕
Slop 🧴
Slap 🧢
Slide 🕶️
Shade ☂️

Please ensure your child comes to school with a sun hat/sunglasses and sun cream applied in the morning. It would also be useful if they had a bottle of sun cream (with their name on) in their school bags so they can apply it to themselves later in the day.
