Members of our parent body have raised concerns about the content of Relationships Sexual Health and Parenting (RSHP) lessons and have already highlighted their intention to extract their children from this area of the curriculum.
As part of our School Improvement Plan, Mrs McNulty is therefore looking to create a Parent Group to develop knowledge and understanding, as well as confidence, within our parents and carers, to ensure effective delivery and outcomes of RSHP here at New Cumnock Primary.
Is this something you feel strongly about or feel you have little knowledge of? Do you have time to join us to share your thoughts or questions?
Please complete the Form below and Mrs McNulty will contact all parents who have registered, to arrange a meeting in the near future.
Please visit the ‘Downloads and Documents’ tab of the school blog to view this years School Improvement Plan and our Standards and Quality Report of last session.
Summary of Improvement Plan
Raising Attainment, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy |
Increased in sustained positive destinations and employability skills |
We will improve teaching and learning of reading across the school by:
· Purchasing and implementing suitable and relevant texts to improve reading.
· Organising staff training for reading.
· Participating in the Scottish Book Trust’s ‘Reading Schools’ accreditation.
· Reviewing the reading section of our Literacy Policy. |
By working in partnership with universities and companies, children will develop a better understanding of further education and training opportunities to develop skills for work, learning and life. They will also consider how these opportunities support the national context of the current and future workforce in Scotland.
|
Ensuring the health and wellbeing of all young people |
Closing the poverty related attainment gap |
The whole school community will develop their knowledge and understanding of the Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenting section of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum. As a result they will feel more confident about the delivery of it and as a result support each other to ensure effective implementation. |
Class teachers will make effective use of personal information, as well as assessment information when planning supports and next steps in learning in a bid to raise attainment in numeracy and mathematics. |
FOR ALL PARENTS AND CARERS…
Our House Captains would like to invite you to join our Parent Council!
The Parent Council plays such a crucial role in our school, with many events and opportunities for children only available through Parent Council funding and effort.
We will be holding our annual AGM on Thursday 9/6/22 at 6pm IN PERSON at the school. We would love it if you would consider coming along!
Here is your video invite from our talented P7 House Captains!
Families Connect is an evidence based programme developed by Save the Children UK that supports parents/carers to engage in their children’s learning.
New Cumnock Primary School has been chosen to take part in the Scottish Government’s Pilot Study and will be delivering this weekly for 6 weeks with the first session taking place on Thursday 12th May.
Families will receive excellent resources which they will be able to keep in order to connect and communicate with their child at home.
The commitment is only 1.4 hours online once a week for 6 weeks. This would be such a valuable opportunity for every family!
For further information or to request a place on the programme please contact:

We are looking for feedback around the use of video calls for parents evening from P1A and P7 parents.
If you could take a few minutes to complete the survey below, this will help us decide whether to take forward video calls in the future and roll out as an option for other classes.

National Child Online Safety Campaign
A new National Child Online Safety Campaign launched on 8 February to coincide with Safer Internet Day. The campaign is being led by the Scottish Government with Child Protection Committees Scotland, Police Scotland and other a range of third sector partners.
The campaign aims to increase awareness of the importance of online safety to parents and carers of children aged 8-11 year olds, and reassure and inform them that the skills they apply offline to help keep their children safe can be used tohelp protect them online too.
A supporting Parent Club webpage includes practical ideas and advice for parents and the Parent Club toolkit sets out simple ways in which partner organisations can further support the campaign.
