Anti-Bullying Mascot Competition

We have received lots of fantastic entries for the Anti-Bullying Mascot Competition. Well done to everyone who has taken part so far, it is going to be very difficult to pick a winner!

Please send all entries to Miss Kirkcaldy by Friday 20th November. You can bring your entry to school or email it to eajennifer.kirkcaldy@eastayrshire.gov.uk.

The winner will be announced and receive their prize on Tuesday 24th November.

The Night Before Christmas Campaign

We are aware that Christmas can be a challenging time for some members of our community. This year we are teaming up with the Night Before Christmas Campaign (charity number 47995) to provide gift boxes containing essential items and some Christmas treats for families in poverty.

If you can help, we are looking for the following items:

Child box:

  • Pyjamas, hat, scarf and gloves, pants and socks
  • Age appropriate toy, i.e. teddy, doll, car, craft item, hair accessories or game
  • A book to read, colour or put stickers in
  • Shampoo and shower gel
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush
  • Sweets
  • Hot chocolate

Adult box:

  • Hat, scarf, gloves and socks
  • Sanitary products
  • Biscuits and sweets
  • Shampoo, shower gel, hair gel, shaving foam, lip balm
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Brush, comb and hair accessories
  • Magazine, puzzles, novel, notebook and pen
  • Christmas novelty item

Adult box for those who are homeless:

  • Thermal hat, scarf, gloves and socks
  • Hand warmers
  • Insoles
  • Torch
  • Reusable cup, tea, coffee, hot chocolate sachets
  • Toiletries, shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, lip balm
  • Baby wipes, tissues, plasters
  • Sanitary products
  • Biscuits, sweets and chocolate

Please do not feel that you need to give all or any of these items, any donations will be gratefully received.

There will be a collection box at the front door of the school from 18th November – 2nd December.

Anti-Bullying Week Scotland

Design an Anti-Bullying Mascot Competition

This week we are raising awareness about bullying through Anti-Bullying Week Scotland.

We would like to encourage all children to take part in a competition to design an Anti-Bullying Mascot for Mauchline Primary School.

You can use pens, pencils, crayons, materials or ICT to create your mascot.

Please send all entries to Miss Kirkcaldy by Friday 20th November. There will be a prize for the winner!

Information for Parents/ Carers

Every November schools throughout the United Kingdom take part in Anti-Bullying Week.  This is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on bullying and consider the steps we can take together to stop it. Anti-Bullying Week 2020 is taking place from Monday 16th to Friday 20th November this year and it has the theme ‘United Against Bullying’. 

As a parent or carer, you are a vital piece of the puzzle in tackling bullying.  You have a unique role to play in guiding and supporting your child through their school years and there are lots of positive steps you can take to help keep your child safe from bullying and harm.

Bookbug

Each November Bookbug gives every Primary 1 pupil in Scotland a free bag of books and resources to inspire a lifelong love of reading, writing and counting.

The Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag contains the three shortlisted titles for The Bookbug Picture Book Prize. Children across Scotland can vote for their favourite book by Friday 5th February and the winner will be announced in March 2021.

Read, Write Count

Read, Write, Count is a national campaign to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of Scotland’s children.

As part of the campaign, every child in Primary 2 and Primary 3 receives a free bag with books and activities to support their learning.

Dates for Your Diary!

Monday 16th November  

As part of Anti-bullying Week, we would like to invite all children to wear odd socks to school to celebrate that we are all different.

Friday 20th November

As part of Scottish Book Week children can come to school dressed as a book character or bring a prop from a book, i.e a mixing bowl from George’s Marvellous Medicine or a wand from Harry Potter. Children do not have to dress up if they do not want to.
