Dyslexia Awareness Week

Once again we are celebrating ‘Dyslexia Awareness Week‘ this week in the school. Mrs Cross led a whole school assembly last week all about ‘Neurodiversity’ and how children with Dyslexia are supported within the school.

The P5-7 classes will also be completing some activities regarding Dyslexia and will be putting away their pens for ‘No Pens Wednesday’.

We use Glow in school and embedded within Glow is Immersive Reader which is a very handy tool for children with Dyslexia. Here is the link if you are interested in having a look:

In school we also use the Nessy Spelling and Reading programme with all of our Primary 4 and Primary 5 children. Some of our Primary 6 and 7 children continue accessing the programme if they need to.

IT is used throughout the school to support our children with Dyslexia. We have Chromebooks, laptops and iPads which the children access to help with their learning.

All children from P3-7 participate in the STAR reading programme and have library books linked to their reading age to allow them to read for pleasure independently. Last session we became a Reading School following all of the efforts we have made to develop a love of reading with our children. We have purchased specific books for our Dyslexic children which are located in a section of our library.
