World Book Day

World Book Day – Thursday 4th March 2021

This year we will not be dressing up within the ECC and unfortunately the children can not bring in their favourite book due to current restrictions.

We will however be celebrating our love of books in the ECC with lots of activities planned for the children.

Getting our children interested in books and reading is vitally important to support their early literacy skills. This leads to many benefits including; improved concentration, their vocabulary expands and understanding, improves social and interactions skills, their creativity and gain a better understanding of the world.

Remember to check out your child’s learning journals for any updates.

If you have any problems logging on then let me know.

❤️💙💛💚💜

Hi everyone,

Hope you’ve all had a lovely week 😊💖,

So just recently we received news that I will be required in another ECC, which unfortunately means that I have to say goodbye to everyone at Hurlford 🥺.

I have absolutely loved my time here at Hurlford ECC and have really enjoyed getting to know everyone… I will miss you all so much ❤️.

As I’m unable to say goodbye to all the children in person, here is a little message…

Take care everyone ❤️

Love Michelle xx

Friday 19th February 💛💜💙💚❤️

Good Morning Everyone!

As it’s Friday I thought it would be fun if we all got active and pretended to be dinosaurs! 🦖🦕🦖🦕

Here are some ideas….

All the ladies are really excited to see you all on Monday but are wondering how you feel about coming back? Some of you will be excited and looking forward to it but others might be a little bit nervous or worried. Could you draw me a picture of yourself to show how you are feeling?

Isla and Rory drew pictures this morning to show how they felt about going back to school.

Isla is really looking forward to her being able to go back to school to see her friends but Rory is a little bit sad and worried. It’s perfectly normal to feel a bit anxious like this when we go through periods of change.  Please remember the ladies are all here for you and will do our very best to make coming back lots of fun! ❤️🎉

Please send any pictures or comments to myself or your child’s keyworker and let us know how they are feeling so we can best support them coming back.

Have a lovely weekend and I’ll see you all on Monday. 😊

Return to the ECC

Good morning everyone,

After the first minister’s announcement this week we are delighted to be welcoming back all the children to the ECC from Monday 22nd February.

Our safety restrictions will still be in place, here is a reminder of these;

  • Children and staff will be in two separate bubbles.
  • Group drop off and pick up times will be staggered to ensure the ECC playground is not too busy.
  • Children will be collected from adult in ECC playground – you MUST wait with your child until a staff member takes them from you. Please be patient as staff from different bubbles are not able to take your child.
  • When collected children will be brought out to adult in ECC playground.
  • Face coverings must be worn when dropping off or picking child up.
  • Can we ask that only one adult enter playground to pick child up.
  • All children will wash their hands when entering and exiting ECC.

Due to transitional benefits we have had a change in the group bubbles – this allows the children to mix with others and for the children entering Primary 1 this year it is good for them to get to know some of the other pre-schoolers. Our new drop off and pick up times for the groups are as follows;

Groups Drop off Pick up
Red & Green 8:40 2:40
Yellow & Blue 8:50 2:50
Purple 8:55 2:55

We are very grateful for all our families continued support and understanding during these times.

Stay safe everyone!

🔴🟡🟢🔵🟣Patterns 🔴🟡🟢🔵🟣

Hello everyone 🙂 I hope you all had a nice wee break from home learning.

I am so excited that i will be able to see you all on Monday 😄.

Today I thought it would be fun to identify different patterns.
Can you identify different patterns around your house?
Look for spots, stripes, tartan, animal print. You might find these on socks and t-shirts, cushions, curtains and bedding.
Have a look at your toys do you have any animals or toys with print i.e., Zebra strips or leopard spots?

I would love to see what patterns you find!

For a extra challenge can you make your own pattern?  You could use bricks or cars or even paper.

And for a extra tricky challenge can you follow and copy a pattern?

I have posted some examples for you.

I cant wait to see what patterns you find or make.

Have fun 🙂

Bird feeders

Good morning everyone.

Today i thought you could make a bird feeder, since we have had lots of snow and very cold days, the little birds find it hard to find food.      Last week while I was in the Ecc, some of the children helped to make a bird feeder.    Your grown-ups will need to help you with this.  You will need some lard and some bird seed. The lard needs to be soft, so leave it sitting out.  Put the bird seed and the lard into a big bowl  and squash it all together. It can get quite messy, but you will have good fun mixing it together with your hands.  At nursery we used the little milk bottles to put the bird food in. We just had to cut a hole and put a stick in, and a string at the top to hang it from a tree or post.  You can also just roll it into a big ball, if you don’t have any empty juice bottles.   Here are some pictures of our bird feeders.            Have fun everyone.

Thursday 11th February 2021💛❤️💙💚💜

Good Morning Everyone,

As it has been so cold and icy outside I thought we could make some ice art today. This activity combines messy play, creative art and science.

To start off our ice art why don’t you go on a scavenger hunt around your house to see what interesting containers you can find.  A mix of different shapes and sizes of containers will give you lots of variety in your sculpture building blocks.

Next you need to mix food colouring or paint with water and use that to fill the containers.  Water gets bigger when it freezes so make sure to leave space at the top of each container.   Pop all your containers into the freezer or if it’s cold enough put outside overnight.  Now let the cold temperatures work their magic ✨

By running the frozen containers under the tap for a few seconds it will help release the ice from their pots.

With your colourful blocks of ice you can make amazing ice sculptures. I can’t wait to see what amazing art work you create!

You could also pour salt on some of your ice blocks.  What effect did the salt have on the ice?

Have fun 🌈

I’ve made a post for you to look at that includes a recipe and method to give you a start in perfecting your pancakes before next Tuesday or to give you time to get the ingredients. Id love to see your pancake creations!
