Fun in the ECC

As part of our SHANARRI initiative this week we have been learning how to keep ourselves healthy. We’ve played bingo games to help us recognise different fruit and vegetables as well as chopping and peeling real ones to discover what they look like inside.  You may also have tasted our delicious and extremely healthy orange and banana scones we baked with Debbie and Hayley on Monday. Recipes got sent home for you to try with your child (more are available if your child was absent).

Both Leyton and Amelia were on our moon this week ! Big congratulations to you both – keep up the hard work!

At outdoor play this week Jill didn’t let the rain spoil her fun in the garden – she suited and booted the children and they went looking for puddles !

And as for Friday ………. what a fantastic day we had !!!!! Our sponsored walk and bounce was so much fun. We even managed to enjoy a tasty Scottish snack of haggis, neeps and tatties on oatcakes with some Scottish music playing in the background.

We thank everyone who took part today and will hopefully have a grand total to post up next week! Can any remaining sponsor forms and money be returned to the ECC on Monday at the Snack table please.

Check our board each day to find out who our Responsible Citizen is for the day!

A week in the world of the ECC

This week in the ECC, we have carried on with our Space theme due to the children’s interest in it. We know lots of facts about planets in our solar systems – try asking us about the sun, the moon, earth, and what space doesn’t have that makes us float and bounce about a lot! We tried real space food that the astronauts would eat and made our own planets with balloons and paper mache. We predicted what might happen in more experiments and evaluated our findings on last weeks “glowing eggs”. Connie reached our moon on Wednesday with her fantastic recall on what she had learned about Space.

Well done Connie !!!

Through the use of the SHANARRI indicators we have  introduced our new character “Healthy Hannah”  to the children. They have been sorting out healthy and unhealthy foods as well as using scales and spoons to measure out the sugar content in some of our drinks ! We know too much sugar isn’t good for our teeth and our bodies.

Whilst outdoors we were using our problem solving and prediction skills to investigate which balls would fit down which tubes according to their size and shape.

And just look at how high Harper can bounce on that trampoline!

This week…

The children have been busy this week learning all about Space and the planets in our solar system.

Some of the children helped Alana to build the new space station using tools and very helpful instructions. They have also been learning lots about safety.  We went on a road safety walk and talked about keeping safe in the community. We also explored internet safety. They also carried out their own risk assessments in the room.

The enjoyed working cooperatively with each other on a wide range of tasks.
