Families Connect

We are please to be able to offer this learning opportunity for our families within Hurlford ECC. Our Community Practitioners Karen and Alison will be taking the lead in these workshops to work along with parents/carers on developing their children’s learning at home.

It will start on Tuesday 20th February at 2024 at 1pm-2:45pm, and run every Tuesday afternoon for 6 weeks, finishing on Tuesday 26th March.

STRENGTHENING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AT HOME
Families Connect builds on parents’ existing skills and knowledge, providing them with the confidence to support their child’s learning in the home.

How Families Connect works

Over 6  weeks, parents discuss aspects of their children’s learning during informal workshops. They are introduced to a series of adaptable activities, techniques and games that they can do with their children at home to support their children’s learning in three key areas:

  • Social and Emotional development
  • Literacy and language development
  • Numeracy

Save the Children has adapted Families Connect to be suitable for three-year-olds, informed by co-design with families and piloting in nurseries across the UK.

If you would like to take part in this workshop please complete the form below.  We only have 10 spaces.

Welcome Back

On Monday 21st August our doors for the ECC open at 8:45am.

Please bring your child in and there will be pegs with their names on them, hang up their belongings and bring them into the playroom.

PLEASE NOTE – If this is your child’s first day with us the pick up time is 11am, whether they have been in another establishment or not. A new ECC can be overwhelming for your child and we want to give children the chance to settle in to their new environment, and begin to know new routines.

We will then discuss further times for the rest of the week depending on your child.

Please remember to pass on any relevant information to staff.

Can’t wait to see you all on Monday!!

Getting Ready for School

As we enter the last few weeks before we stop for summer, this is a very exciting time for our pre-schoolers that will be moving up to P1 in August.

In the ECC we will begin looking to promote more independent skills with the children moving up. This is something that we also encourage Parents/Carers to  do at home.

Please click on link for a ready for school checklist

Ready for school

Handy tips:

  •  Labels with child’s name on all their belongings.
  •  Shoes that are easy to put on and fasten – same for gym shoes.
  •  Make sure your child can easily identify their belongings for example; coat, bag, pencil case and lunch bag.
  •  Practice putting on and zipping up coat with your child.
  •  Practice organising belongings – if taking off coat, jumper etc to put where it is meant to go and not left laying on floor.
  •  Eating using a knife and fork – if packed lunches easy to open items.
  • Toileting – practice with your child to ensure that they are confident in accessing the toilet, wiping and washing hands.

This is a very exciting time for all the children and we want to prepare them as best as we can.

If you need any other information please just ask a member of staff

We have plenty of paint, brushes and tools we just need you to bring yourself wearing old clothes.  If you able to volunteer can you let me know, so I know how many volunteers we have, thank you!

Fingers crossed that the weather is good for next Tuesday to allow us to get started.

People who help us

A few of the children have been talking about different job roles they know adults do or in something they have been watching. We are looking at learning about ‘People who help us!’

Do we have any parents in job roles that we could teach the children about and would be confident to come in and talk a little about your job? It would only be for a little half hour and staff would support throughout.

If this is something you would be able to do please give me an email and we can discuss times etc.

Parent Talents

Image result for we need your skills

Hello everyone,

As we are approaching Spring we would love to be able to give our ECC playground some much needed tlc. This will involve;

  • Painting
  • Clearing/brushing/litter picking
  • weeding/pruning
  • To break up our bus at side of building

We are also interested in any of our more crafty parents that could perhaps make anything for us? Just a few examples

We are also looking for some planters that we can use in the playground, ideally these are ones that are being recycled that you no longer use as we are aiming to achieve a Clean Green Award.

We will be hoping, weather permitting to do this on Tuesday 7th March from 12 pm – 2:30pm. The children will access the school playground on this afternoon to allow us time to tidy up.

Please complete the form via link below on whether you can help and what area you could help with.

We greatly appreciate any help.
