Welcome to P6DH’s page!
Massive well done to the P6 pupils who took part in the Dumfries Carnival Parade last Saturday! The P6 and P7 pupils all did a fabulous job and were a credit to the school. Thank you to all the members of our school community who came out to support them.

A paper copy of our term 3 overview can be sent home, if requested.
On Wednesday 4th December 2024 P6DH went for a walk around our town to visit and take photographs of historical buildings we had learned about in class in term 2. We planned our walk route on the back of our map and it helped a lot like tons. I was worried that it was going to be a terrible day but it wasn’t. It was a great day.

First we went to the church. When I looked up at the church it stood there majestically. It was taller then a giraffe so we took some amazing pictures.

Then we went to the historical Devorgilla Bridge in the town, crossing the river Nith. We took some photos of the historical bridge. The bridge is around 300 years old. It was destroyed and got rebuild. It had lots of cracks in the sides I didn’t trust the bridge because all I could think about was it used to be broken. The Devorgilla Bridge is big but not huge. The Devorgilla Bridge has colossal ovals in the middle of the bridge.

Then we went to the statue. There was a bird on the statue. It was smooth and white. Me and the class took photos on the iPad of the big tower of Greyfriars Church.

Next we saw the mid steeple and I got to take a picture of it. It didn’t look that old but it was very old. There was a knight on it that I zoomed in on and I also zoomed in on another picture which is very cool. I loved it.

After that we took a trip to the Graveyard and had some snack and looked at the beautiful Mausoleum. There was a big stone in it. Also some beautiful colourful flowers beside the stone. There was also some white smoke coming out of a pipe.

Lastly, we went to rosefield mills. The beautiful/shiny water was flowing fast. I loved how it soothingly past by as we saw the old bricks crumbling on rosefield mills. It’s a huge building. I watched my friend take pictures of it as my hands thawed out in my pockets.
After that we walked across the wobbly suspension bridge. It was like walking along a pirate’s plank. Everyone said it was very scary but I didn’t mind really.
I had an amazing time going to all the places we talked about in class and learned about them too. I really liked the bridge the most but also I loved the other places. I liked talking to my friends about them. It was really fun. My lesson is that all old things are super interesting and a lot more exciting than you think. I might take my family to these places.
All images were taken by the learners in P6DH and the accompanying text has been selected from some of their written recounts of the trip.

Unfortunately we had to cancel our Sharing the Learning session in term 2 but we didn’t want the families missing out on seeing our fantastic art work which is displayed in the classroom!

‘Guess the Square’ Competition
We are running a competition to raise funds for the school.
If your child would like to take part in this competition, squares are £1 each and they will be on sale during the school day from Monday 2nd December until Friday 13th December (or until all squares are sold!)
The winning square will receive a Children’s Christmas stocking.
Pupils from P4M and P5/4M will come round each class every day to sell squares.
Many thanks for your continued support

Biodiversity and Interdependence Topic
As part of our topic this term, we have been learning about plants. We have learned to: identify the parts of plants and explain their functions; explain three different types of pollination; and identify different methods of seed dispersal. We also completed an investigation to determine the best conditions for growing plants and wrote a scientific report.

P6 have completed their first session preparing for Dumfries Carnival 2025. It was a busy and tiring day. Our next session will be on Thursday 21st November. Our topic in term 2 will focus on local history, multi-culturalism and creativity to link with the themes of Dumfries Carnival 2025.
