We started our Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations last week. Every child in school made a mosaic tile and these tiles will be put together to make the Queen’s head. All the children enjoyed making their tile. Thank you very much to Diana Hamilton for her organisation, preparation and help on Friday.
After weeks of practising, we have our Scots Poetry Winners per class. Former Sheuchan teacher, Mrs McCaig judged the finalists in each class and had the hard decision of picking this year’s winners. The standard was so high however the winners are as follows:

Today we said goodbye to Miss Barbour who is our P1/2 teacher. She joined Sheuchan Primary in August 2020 when she taught P7. She has recently secured a permanent post as a PE teacher in a school in Glasgow. To send Miss Barbour off in style, we held a mini sports day for her which she and the rest of the school enjoyed. We would like to wish Miss Barbour all the best for her new job and best wishes for the future.
Wow! We had a great response to our annual Scottish Family homework this year. The models and posters never fail to amaze us with how creative our families are. Well done to everyone who took part in our family homework.
Primary 7’s had a busy day today preparing for their Burns’ Supper. There were lots of tattie peeling, dicing and cooking going on in the kitchen as well as decorations being made and speeches being rehearsed in the classroom.
P6 and P7 enjoyed a fantastic afternoon. The supper was filled with enjoyable speeches, Highland dancing, piano recitals and even a wee dance of the Gay Gordons. In addition, a marvellous supper of haggis, neeps and tatties was enjoyed by (almost) everyone. Our afternoon was rounded off with Auld Lang Syne. Well done to everyone who took part and made it such an enjoyable afternoon. Many thanks to Mrs McClymont for helping to cook and serve the supper.
Awards for our Learning Aliens and Citizenship were awards to each class today. All the boys and girls enjoyed a lovely cup of hot chocolate and a biscuit as an award.
Lots of boys and girls enjoyed their Christmas Lunch today. As a special treat, they each had chocolate sauce and marshmallows with their brownie for dessert, YUM!
Christmas has definitely arrived at Sheuchan Primary School. Here are all of the Christmas banners on display in the hall.
We are very excited to announce that Melissa Fraser (P.5) is a runner up in the 2021 Christmas Card Competition which was set by The Rt. Hon. Alister Jack MP who is our Member of Parliament for Dumfries and Galloway. It must have been a very difficult job for Alister Jack’s team to judge all the entries. All the children who entered this competition received a certificate to thank them for their participation. Melissa received her certificate and a £25 gift voucher for Amazon.
Well done to Melissa and everyone who entered.
This week the awards were presented for the Learning Aliens and Literacy. Everyone with an award enjoyed a lovely cup of hot chocolate and a biscuit. Well done everyone! Next week awards will be given out for a Learning Alien and Citizenship.
