P4/5 organised the family ceilidh during Scottish week. All families enjoyed Scottish dancing, a lovely supper and entertainment from different children reciting their poems.
Our Scottish week was rounded off with family and friends joining a Scottish morning where the poetry winners recited their poems, received their certificates and classes sung songs such as Jeelie Piece and Donald, where’s yoor Troosers?
All the boys and girls worked hard to practise and perform a Scot’s poem. The finalists were judged by Mr Plant . He had a hard decision in all classes but his final choice was:
P1 – Moray Allison (Raindrops by J K Annand)
P2 – Ava Stevenson (Twa Legged Mice by J K Annand)
P3 – Niamh Castle (Circus by J K Annand)
P3/4 – Lachlan MacDonald (The Magic Pizza by Alison Fitt)
P4/5 – Millie Whorlow (Skippin by J K Annand)
P5/6 – Erin McCulloch (Wullie Wastle by Robert Burns)
P7 – Jenny McCulloch (Up in the Morning Early by Robert Burns)
Family homework this year was to create a picture or a model linked to their Scot’s poem. The standard was very high and it was very hard to pick a poster and model winner from each class. But the results were:
P1 – Bailey (model) & Scarlet (poster)
P2 – Leighton (model) & Emma Lindsay (poster)
P3 – Niamh (model) & Paul (poster)
P3/4 – Kelsey (Model) & Darcie (poster)
P4/5 – Millie (model) & Lucie (poster)
P5/6 – Corin (model) & Miah (Poster)
P7 – Sofie (model) & Anna (poster)
Since the beginning of this term, all children have been busy learning a Scots poem. They had to consider their pronunciation, pace, volume, clarity and use of actions. Mr Plant had the hard job of deciding the winners from each class. They are as follows:
P1 – Moray (Raindrops by J K Annand)
P2 – Ava Stevenson (Twa Legged Mice by J K Annand)
P3 – Niamh Castle (Circus by J K Annand)
P3/4 – Lachlan MacDonald (The Magic Pizza by Alison Fitt)
P4/5 – Millie Whorlow (Skippin by J K Annand)
P5/6 – Erin McCulloch ( Willie Wastle by Robert Burns)
P7 – Jenny McCulloch (Up in the Morning Early by Robert Burns)
Primary 7 had lots of fun putting their maths skills to the test in an ‘escape room’ activity. They used lots of what we have been learning in maths to crack codes and help save Christmas from being cancelled by computer hackers.
P7 organised a Burns Supper for P5, 6 and 7 pupils. Children decorated the hall, wrote and delivered speeches and toasts, and organised some great entertainment. Thank you to Robbie McCutcheon (our piper), the performers from other classes, and Mrs McClymont who prepared all the food with the help of some primary 7s.
P7 had a fantastic trip to Alloway to the Burns Cottage. They dressed up in 18th Century clothes and saw how Burns lived. Afterwards they had a tour of some of the settings from the poem Tam O’Shanter. Luckily, there were no witches or warlocks to be seen and everyone made it safely over the keystane at the Brig o’ Doon. Thank you very much to the 3 parents who gave up their day to make the trip possible, we are very grateful.
In October Primary 4/5 planted daffodil and crocus bulbs. They have begun to grown over the last few weeks, and we are patiently waiting for them to grow large enough to flower. We are monitoring them closely making sure they get the best chance to flower.
Primary 5/6/7 pupils took part in a Crime Scene Investigation run by Glasgow Science Centre and Historic Scotland. Pupils worked together and used their problem solving and maths skills to solve puzzles, which helped them crack the case of the skeletons found in Stirling Castle. All pupils enjoyed this challenge.
