Bake Sale Success

Primary 5 held their Bake Sale yesterday and the very latest total raised is £123.37 . They will use the money they raised to buy gifts to fill shoe boxes which will be given to St. George’s Church for their Operation Christmas Child project. The shoeboxes are given to children based on need, regardless of their background or religious belief.

The children have learned lots during this activity and it raises their awareness of global issues and helps them become global citizens.

Well done Primary 5.

Holidays are here again.

School closes this afternoon for two weeks and reopens on Monday 28th October at 9 a.m. I hope the weather is kind.

We had a successful practice for Tiger! Tiger! today and the children were as quiet as mice.

Please remember to visit our Parent Council Fundraising Page for up to date minutes.

Parents’ Evening has passed and I do hope that next time we have better attendance!

It’s almost the end of term again. I can hardly believe it. Primary 7 have started to form groups who have different responsibilities in school. Our Media / News group have some photos of what’s been happening at school.

P6 made models them got their volcanoes to "erupt". No one was injured!
Darby, Anna and Thomas are first to receive a Loreburn Achievement Bracelet.
Lovely art work from P7 during their work on China.
Our entrance hall has a very attractive display made by P5.

It’s lovely to see everyone back to school and looking so smart. Primary One have had a long week and are a bit tired….as are most of us!

It’s Primary 7’s last year at Loreburn and already they are shaping up to be a great P7 setting good role models for the rest of the school. They are pictured here with Miss Brydson ,their new teacher.

Miss Corner and Miss Brydson have joined our staff and we hope they will enjoy being part of the Loreburn Team.

Holidays are nearly over.

We have been so lucky with the weather this holiday, let’s hope we have some more sunny days before school goes back. If you have been past the school you may have seen a lot of work going on. The back of the school has been almost rebuilt when the replacement of the flat roof uncovered some serious decay underneath.

There are new steps being installed and next week some of the playground is being resurfaced. The school should be looking a lot smarter when we get back.

I hope everyone is making the most of the last couple of weeks of the holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 19th August.

Books for School

This week our House Captains went along to W.H. Smith to receive vouchers from the W.H. Smith Trust Schools Giveaway. The  vouchers have been exchanged for books and will be going to classes next week. What a delightful giveaway!

Election Fever

Primary 6 have been busy canvassing this week in the hope of gaining votes at tomorrow’s  school election. There are 4 parties each with good ideas about improvements that could be made to school.

From reorganising assemblies, making a bottle greenhouse to a homework club, they are trying to get voters won over. Whichever party wins, they’ve all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained lots of knowledge about politics. maybe we will have future politicians in our midst.

Eggsellent Idea!

Mr Muir has been talking about recycling at recent assemblies. On Thursday he showed the children, and staff, how to use an empty eggshell for growing seeds. He also told us that when you plant out your seedlings the eggshell goes straight into the ground and provides the soil with nutrients!

Cameron and Katie wre the volunteers this week at Assembly.

The Gardening Club will be running a competition for plants grown in eggshells. Watch out for news of this coming out soon.

New Term!

At last we have some sunshine! This is always a busy term and soon we will be practising for Sports Days.

Infant Sports Day (P1 – P3) is on Tuesday28th May at the M.U.G.A. from 1:30 p.m. Senior Sports (P4 – P7) is on Tuesday 4th June at Dumfries Academy Playing Field. If the weather is wet the sports will be cancelled until a later date. We do a check in the morning of the ground and make a decision before lunch if they will go ahead. If we have to cancel we will send you a text message.

Easter

Well the holiday are upon us and as I look out of my office window I’m pleased to see that there is no snow….and the sky looks quite bright, so fingers crossed we get some good weather in the holidays.

I hope you enjoyed our Easter Service yesterday. The children did a super job of presenting it and I was really proud of them.

The classes are taking turns to go out and hunt for Easter Eggs so there is great excitement in school today.

The winners of our Easter Egg Competition were :

P1 Katie, P2B Nerissa, P2R Ryan, P3 Jessica, P4 Megan, P5 Eve, P6 Kimberley and P7 Amy.  It was very hard to choose the winners with so many great entries. There were some terrific ideas.
