STEM

Try out some of these STEM challenges!  Table football looks good – no eating the players until the end of the match.

STEM+in+a+Shoebox+1.8.16 (1)

Here are some more fantastic STEM challenges that you might like to try at home. I’m sure that some of you would love to try the homemade water bomb (challenge 19)! I also like the look of design and build a helicopter (challenge 12), balloon car race (challenge 11) and cardboard chair (challenge 8). Remember to upload pictures to the blog if you try any of them!

https://www.jamesdysonfoundation.co.uk/resources/challenge-cards.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsN-yxuyy6AIVCbTtCh00TwYeEAAYASAAEgKJz_D_BwE

Mrs Nyondo shows you how to make a Wee Book. This may come in handy for a future task.

Art

Try to improve your skills in observational drawing.  Choose any item in the house. You could go outside and draw some plants! Look at it very carefully. Look at the shapes it makes and the shadows it forms. Sketch the object drawing what you see, not what you think you see. You can use plain paper or  one of your jotters.

I found some fantastic land art by James Brunt and thought it might inspire some of you to create some land art in your gardens, in the woods, whilst out for a walk…

Would love to see some of you putting on your creative hats and uploading some land art to share with others on the blog!

Literacy

http://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/

Tune in daily to hear David Walliams read you a chapter from one of his books!

24.03.20- I’ve just listened to Spoiled Brad and now I’m planning what I’d use 100 different rooms in my house for (there would definitely have to be a cinema room for watching my favourite movies).

After you’ve listened to the story you could plan your dream house and post on the blog to let me know what creative and fun rooms you’d include!

25.03.20- I’ve just listened to Grubby Gertrude. Warning: do not tune in whilst you are eating lunch. This chapter isn’t for the faint hearted! I hope you guys all keep your bedrooms nice and tidy (unlike Gertrude).

26.03.20- I’ve just listened to Trish the Troll. Lots of KiVa to think about in that chapter!

After you’ve listened to the story you could practice writing your spelling words in a graffiti style. I’d love to see some graffiti spelling on the blog.

27.03.20- I’ve just listened to Hank’s Pranks. Would love to see you guys posting some of your best pranks on the blog! Have your pranks ever went wrong?

30.03.20- I’ve just listened to Tandy’s Tantrums. Tandy wasn’t impressed when her mum suggested fruit for dessert.

After you’ve listened could you write a wee book about how to make a fruit salad-include all of your favourite fruits. Remember clear instructions are written in the correct time sequence with numbered steps, use clear and easy to understand language, use bossy verbs (collect this, do that etc) and can include diagrams to support the readers understanding.

31.03.20– I’ve just listened to Humbert the Hungry Baby. I would love to see that story turned into a short animation. Maybe some of you could recreate the story as a stop animation! I’m going to make a list of everything Humbert managed to eat, you could give this a go too! It’s going to be a very long list by the sounds of the story.

01.04.20- I’ve just listened to Nigel Nit-Boy. If I had a superpower I’d choose to be invisible. What superpower would you like to have and why? Share with us on the blog!

02.04.20- I’ve just listened to No No Noe. I won’t give away any spoilers but let me know on the blog if you enjoyed the story or not!

03.04.20- I’ve just listened to Fanny’s Funny Faces. I would love to see some pictures of the funny faces you can pull!

20.04.20– I’ve just listened to Stacey Superstar. If you were to become a superstar would it be for singing? dancing? acrobatics? or which talent do you have? You can share your talent on the blog!

21.04.20– I’ve just listened to Earnest Ernest. We can see a picture of Ernest’s boring grey trousers and shirt. Your task is to design his mums outfit (based on the description given in the story).

22.04.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 1&2 of Fing. Myrtle had a lot of interesting items in her room that her parents had given her over the years. Could you write an A-Z list of things you would like?

23.04.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 3-5 of Fing. I can’t wait to find out what a “fing” is. Myrtle’s parents had some good guesses, I wonder if either of them were correct!

24.04.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 6-8 of Fing. Could you try to draw some of the monsters listed in The Monsterpedia? Some great information about the monsters. Listen carefully for clues about what the monsters might look like!

27.04.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 9-11 of Fing. I bet you guys enjoy watching cartoons just like Myrtle does. Do you have a favourite cartoon to watch? Why is it your favourite?

28.04.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 12-14 of Fing. Mr Meek used a lot of different transport to get to the jungle. Could you list all the methods of transport he used? Now try to write your list in alphabetical order (remember a dictionary can be used to help).

29.04.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 15-17 of Fing. There was a long list of things that gave Mr Meek a strange feeling. What things give you the heebie-jeebies? I really don’t like the feel of polystyrene or the sound it makes.

30.04.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 18-20 of Fing. I’m glad the Fing was so helpful. Now the Fing and Mr Meek are flying but where do you think they’ll end up?

01.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 21-24 of Fing. Choose a continent and carry out some research. Can you use your information to make a poster?

04.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 25-28 of Fing. If I had £783.53 I wouldn’t be spending it on sweeties and biscuits. If you had that much money what would you buy and why?

05.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 27-29 of Fing. I wonder what happens to little fing next. If you could have any pet in the world which pet would you have and why?

06.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 30-32 of Fing. Do you think Fing manages to get out of the shed? If so, how do you think Fing escapes?

07.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 33-35 of Fing. I wonder if Myrtle would have wanted a Fing as a pet if she’d have known in advanced the trouble it would cause?!

08.05.20- I’ve just used the catch up page to listen to Chapters 36 and 37 of Fing. I really enjoyed listening to that book. Did any of you listen to the whole book? If so or if you have read the book yourself it would be great to see some book reviews on the blog.

11.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 1 and 2 of Bad Dad. Frank wants to be a champion race car driver just like his dad. What job would you like to do when you are older and why?

12.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 3-5 of Bad Dad. What do you think dads new job is? Did you hear any clues whilst you were listening? Would love to see your thoughts and ideas on the blog!

13.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 6-8 of Bad Dad. Have any of you written any poems whilst learning from home? I’d love to see them on the blog!

14.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 9-11 of Bad Dad. Make a prediction about what you think will happen next. What will happen to Frank? What will happen to his dad? I’ve got lots of ideas… I’ll tune in tomorrow to see if any of my predictions are correct!

15.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 12-14 of Bad Dad. Do you think dad will keep his promise to Frank? Why is it important to keep promises?

18.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 15-17 of Bad Dad. How do you think Frank and dad feel? Do you think they will manage to get out of the well by themselves?

19.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 18-20 of Bad Dad. Who do you think is driving Queenie?

20.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 21-23 of Bad Dad. What do you think the men need to get away from? Do you think dad will spot Frank?

21.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 24-26 of Bad Dad. Do you think the police will find dad’s joke funny? Can you predict what might happen next?

22.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 27-29 of Bad Dad. Draw your favourite part from any of those three chapters, I’m looking for detail and colour. Write a sentence to tell everybody why it was your favourite part.

25.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 30-32 of Bad Dad. How do you think Frank’s feelings change throughout those chapters? Have a discussion with your family and talk about the different emotions Frank might have been feeling.

26.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 33-35 of Bad Dad. Listen closely to the description of Mr Big’s house. Use the detail in Chapter 34 to draw his house as accurately as you can.

27.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 36-38 of Bad Dad. What are your thoughts about Mr Big? Is he kind? Is he helpful? Is he mean? Is he rude.

28.05.20- I’ve just listened to Chapters 39-41 of Bad Dad. 10 years in prison is a very long time. How would you feel if you didn’t get to see one of your family members for 10 years? Do you think Frank can do anything to help his dad?

29.05.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 42-44 of Bad Dad. Frank is planning on breaking dad out of prison. Do you think he will be successful?

08.06.20– I’m trying to catch up on the Bad Dad chapters that I missed during sports week. Did anybody manage to keep up? Have I missed any funny parts?

09.06.20– I’m all caught up! Today I listened to Chapters 60-62 of Bad Dad. How do you think Frank is planning to get his dad out of prison? Do you think Raj will be a help or a hindrance?

10.06.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 63-65 of Bad Dad. Can you give me 3 words to describe how Gilbert might be feeling at the end of Chapter 65? Bonus points for giving me 3 words to describe how Frank may feel at the end of Chapter 65!!

11.06.20– I’ve just listened to Chapters 66 and 67 of Bad Dad. Have any of you guys written any poems whilst learning at home? If so we’d love to see them on the blog!

Languages

Spanish: I don’t want my Spanish to get rusty whilst I’m working from home so I put together a poster about my family- I’ve labelled my family members, their eye colour, hair colour and if they wear glasses or not. I’ll put some key vocab below to help you guys, it would be brilliant if you could give this task a go and then share it on the blog for others!

French: I also gave this task a go in French (although my French is very rusty). Would like to see some of you working on your French skills at home! I’m sure you could all teach me lots of things (share them with me on the blog).
