Sorry for not blogging…

So, over the last couple of weeks, we have been incredibly busy. We were on our trip last Friday and the week before, glow blogs were not working so this is a post that we created a couple of weeks ago. We will also add in some current updates as well.

We had a visit from M&M Productions, where they put on a performance of E.B White’s ‘Charlotte’s Web’. There was a giant pig ((Wilbur) not a real pig) running around the gym hall. We really liked the quick scene changes and enjoyed the performance.

Last week, Steve from Drumfun, visited the school for a two day drum workshop experience. On the Thursday we visited him in the gym hall and used the drums and our bodies and created a variety of different beats. On the Friday afternoon, we had a whole school event were everyone had boom whackers. It was LOUD and very entertaining.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been taking part in Bikeability 2 training. We have been learning skills to ride safely on the roads. We have been doing safe stops, U-turns, passing side roads and parked cars and turning into major and minors. We have had to ensure that we have been doing lifesaver looks to ensure our safety. We have now complete our Bikeability 2 and will be receiving our certificates and badges soon.

On Wednesday 22nd May, Mrs Hunter returned to work after being off and a number of children attended the Clackmannanshire County Sports. P6H pupils were very successful, receiving a silver for 4x100m relay (boys), silver for 100m (boys), silver for shot putt (boys) and gold for high jump (boys). Other members of the class place in finals earning valuable points for the team and Redwell came first for the 2nd year in a row.

We have been continuing to read the Pyrate’s Boy. We have now discovered what was in the box that James was protecting. If you want to know, ask your child! We have been linking our knowledge of the Jacobites to what we are learning.

Last Friday, we visited the Tall Ship and Riverside Museum. We enjoyed looking at all of the exhibits and learning about the different forms of transport. We were able to go on the Tall Ship (for free), Sam tripped up in the old street and Miller and Ethan looked beautiful in the dresses on the old street. We all enjoyed going to the gift shop and purchasing souvenirs.

With only two weeks to go, we will continue to keep you posted. Bye!

3.5.19 P6H have been learning…

This week we have been very busy…

The highlight of our week for most of us was our visits to Nursery to meet the future P1s.  We had a great time playing and helping them learn.  Next week we will help our buddies explore the playground.

In our IDL we have also been doing a lot of learning related to our new class novel ‘Pyrate’s Boy’ boy.  We learned about the British Empire and also the slave trade.

We also created letters, first handwriting them then using Word to make them look as if they were handwritten in the 18th Century.  After we printed them off we crumpled them up and covered them with cold, strong tea to make them look ancient.

In Numeracy and Maths we have been developing our knowledge of fractions. Some of us have been calculating equivalents and simplifying and others have been working with decimals and percentages.

In Health and Wellbeing we have been learning about Internet Safety and Readiness for Learning.

In internet safety we thought about how we use the internet.  This made us aware of the risks involved. Afterward our lesson,  activity and discussion, we  completed a quiz.  We showed that we understand the risks and know what to do if we are worried when using the internet.

In ‘Readiness for Learning’ we learned about the things that prevent us from being alert and able to learn and the things that will help us. There are some things that everyone needs such as sleep, food and water.   Different emotions can be barriers to learning too.

Some of us have also started training for the P6 and P7 Redwell Team for the County Sports on 22nd May!

Thank you for reading ou class blog!

The last week of term

This week we have finished our class novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We have enjoyed discussing the themes and issues that have raised from it. We have watched the film today to enable us to compare the novel and the film. We have noticed my differences between the two.

During RSHPE lessons, we have been thinking about stereotypes and gender issues. We have had thought provoking discussions about these current issues. We also learned about how babies are born, thinking about the different ways that can happen.

In maths, we have been working on time. We have used timetables to work out duration and we have been converting between 12 and 24 hour time.

For spelling this week we were working on some revision of previous rules. We took part in a variety of active tasks to help with our revision of these words and rules.

We are looking forward to the spring holidays. We hope that you all enjoy the next two weeks. Enjoy Mother’s Day and don’t forget to put your clocks forward on Sunday as well!

Long time no see!

This week, we have been working incredibly hard on a variety of tasks and activities.

This morning, we were looking at instructional writing. We thought about the key features of instructions and created a set of instructions together as a class based on making a paper aeroplane. Next, we tried to follow the instructions to create a aeroplane. You can see how successful we were on the school twitter account (in slo mo)!

We have been continuing to read our class novel which is ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. We have had lots of discussions and conversations about what has been going on in the book and researching actual events happening around that time.

In maths this week, we have been working on time. We have been using timetables, looking at time durations and converting between 12 and 24hr time.

We finished our dance in PE which was based on the Scottish Wars of Independence. We enjoyed creating this piece.

Venn diagrams and Presents!

We have been thinking lots about maths this week. Mrs Hunter was given a present this week, she was very excited! We were given a new deluxe hundred square for the wall. We will be discussing about the different areas to add to our numeracy wall.

We have read some more of our class novel and read a book about ADHD. This will help us with our empathy and understanding of different conditions. We will be reading more books from this series over the next few weeks.

We were creating Venn diagrams to compare and discuss different books. This will aid our comprehension and learning in reading.

The Hopeless Case and Famous Scots!

So we have now selected our new class novel, if you have been keeping up with twitter, you will have seen the selection of books we were picking from. The class voted and we picked, drum roll please…… The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas!!! We have been reading lots so far and know all about the main characters and the hopeless case (Gretal)!

For topic this week, we have been presenting our personal projects on famous Scots that have been influential in society. We have all be confident in sharing our learning and answering questions from our peers.

Enjoy the holiday week, looking forward to hearing about all of the fabulous things that you get up to!

Welcome to February!

Hello everyone, welcome back to another exciting blog from P6H!

As a class, we have enjoyed going on the journey with August. we will update you on our new class novel next week!

During a session on the laptops this morning, we had a variety of tasks to choose from. We could work on our word processing skills and rewrite our stories, we could work on our mental agility on Sum Dog and using Glow to email and create PowerPoints. Many of us, have now added Mrs Hunter on SumDog and decided to kindly send her a “few” gifts!

Some of us,  have been training and practising for the upcoming Gymfest on Sunday at Alva Academy! We wish #RedwellCircus all good luck.
