Become an Art Critic – Spicy/Hot

In today’s post, I am challenging you to become an art critic.

An art critic is a person who specialises in analysing, interpreting and evaluating works of art.  Their written reviews are published in newspapers, magazines, books, exhibition brochures, catalogues and on web sites.

In my Sway you will find some hints and tips on becoming an art critic.   You will then have the opportunity to study and assess several well-known paintings.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the paintings, so please come back and discuss them with me on the Blog.  I will be holding an Art Appreciation discussion next week – come along and share your views!

Rainbow Experiment – Art Week – Science

Hello Everyone,

What a weekend we had last week! Such a lovely sun out just for us. Since it has been so beautiful and it is art week we will try a simple experiment, you might have tried it  before. If not, this is  a great opportunity to explore and have some fun.

So, we will be doing a magical rainbow. There are a few materials you can use so feel free to try things you might find at home.

Let’s start with the materials.

Materials

  • Paper Towel
  • Washable markers
  • Water
  • 2 Small Glasses

Step 1

Fold a piece of paper towel (like if it was a book). Cut the paper to be 7.5 inches or 19 cm (any longer and the rainbow may not connect fully).

Step 2

Draw rectangles of the rainbow colours on each end. Make sure you colour them really well and that they have lots of ink so it can travel easily later on.

Step 3

Place 2 cups with water filled 3/4 full. You only want the bottom of the paper towel in so, leave some space from the top of the cup.

Then place the edges in each cup, wait patiently and you will see what happens.

Step 4

Observe and wait patiently and you will see this happening. Leave it for 10 to 15 mnts.

What do you think it is going to happen at the end?

Comments your thoughts and ideas. Send a photo to your teachers of your rainbow.  🙂

Happy Art Week!

Mild – Literacy – Tiger Tale Beginning

I have loved seeing your pictures of you out on the prowl searching for tigers, feeling leaves, looking at shapes, describing sounds.

I think we are ready to write the beginning of our Tiger Tale!

This is a paper version of the tail sheet.

This is the spelling sheet Mr Mutch and I shared with you for writing with.

MILD: Numeracy – Getting in Line, with Symmetry

It is time to go on a walk, a symmetry walk.

Start out your walk indoors then head outdoors and remember to take a camera with you!

Then when you get home learn to play the line game with someone. You can use any objects as long as you both have the same.

Follow the sway to learn more.

Remember to share your learning with your teacher

Book Club – Reading – Hot – The Ickabog

Good morning everyone and welcome back to Methlick’s Book Club!

Have you heard that J.K. Rowling has recently released a new story titled ‘The Ickabog’? It is free and will be published online throughout the coming months.

Instead of us all reading different books, I thought it would be lovely if we read this new story together. Each week, we will read a new chapter, discuss the story so far and complete activities. Activities will be posted on a Monday and we will discuss our responses on a Friday.

J.K. Rowling has also challenged children to create illustrations for the book that will be published later in the year. More information on this competition can be found at – https://bit.ly/2zzey5x

Click on the Sway below to see our activities for this week.

Well-Being Wednesday: Mr.Mutch and Mr. Reid #7

This week they’re back but the competition is off.

They have a different task for you this week.

Watch this week’s episode to find out more

Are you up for some dancing?

Here is the link to the song on Youtube. You can also find it on other platforms such as Spotify.

Listen to the song first

There are different sections to the song and you could probably think of lots of actions.

Such as dancing around, saxophone, actually walking on sunshine and big dance gestures.

Get the whole family involved, you could send in more than once clip.

Remember to send in your video by next Wednesday 10th June.

So that we can put it all together! There will be no episode on Wednesday as we will be posting on Friday instead for the end of the Expressive Arts Grids

Outdoor Art Weaving – Spicy (but suits all levels)

Hopefully you have seen this activity on the grid this week.  During the sunny weather this weekend I took some time out to try this activity too. It was very relaxing (although also sometimes frustrating when the knots can undone  but I kept going). It was a nice quiet time to sit down for a change so I hope you enjoy that aspect of art too. However, a word of warning it was not as simple as it seemed and I think at times I needed two pairs of hands. So don’t forget to ask for help from an adult if needed to set up the weaving loom. Once the frame is sorted then off you go……

If you have less time available or you haven’t gathered any sticks and materials yet you might want to try an easier activity first. You can use any natural materials and present them either as a pattern, a picture of something made from materials, a specific theme or a set colour scheme. Here is one from a P3 pupil called ‘Colours of Nature’ (Thanks Jacob)
