I have added some more information to the book about the group of people, who live under the same sky as you, who were very happy to take a photo of the sky to share with you.
I think that was very kind.
The photographs were taken by my friends between 10am and 12noon at the weekend (16th/17th May)
America, New York
Canada, Alberta
France, Toulouse
Holland,
Russia, Moscow
Russia, Svetlogorsk
Scotland, Dundee
Scotland, Oldmeldrum
Scotland, The Isle of Lewis
I wonder if you can work out where each photo has been taken.
I have put some of the originals back in because I cropped them as it would have been too obvious. I wonder if you can find out the time difference between Scotland and there?
Maybe you could ask someone you are missing to send you a photograph of the sky and you could send one to them and you could talk about what you both see.
We are all so excited to share with you the hard work the community of Methlick have put into creating the Big Night In. We hope it will be a memorable evening for you all.
So, you are asking yourself, how does it work?
The video has already been uploaded to Youtube and is there waiting. On Youtube we have set it to go live at 7pm as a Premiere Party. That means that you can have the video open waiting but the show will not start until 7pm. So, if you join us at 7pm, everyone will be watching at the same time.
While the show is on you can pause and go back if you want, please do not feel you can’t press pause.
Where can I watch it?
Most devices have Youtube as an app or a program. You can view the show from a games console, smart tv, phone, laptop or tablet. The video is on our Youtube account. You can search ‘Methlick Primary’ to find us.
We would suggest being ready for the show to start, so have the link open on whatever screen you are watching from about 6:45. There will be a countdown telling you how long until it starts to play.
The evening can be anything you want it to be, make a night of it and get dressed up or get comfy and dress down. The only thing you need is a pen and paper to write down your answers.
Take a photo with your family during the event and share it with your teachers.
Now remember, if you want to listen to the question again, you can pause and rewind. Each question will have a 10 second timer and if that isn’t long enough you can pause.
Want to read the questions as well?
We have you covered, download our question sheet below which you can print off and use during the show.
Good morning everyone. Time for another bit of Friday fun.
As the weather is getting warmer, we are starting to see more and more butterflies visiting our gardens. Plants like lavender and buddleia (also known as ‘the butterfly bush’) are very attractive to butterflies, but not everyone has them growing in their garden. Today’s activity is designed to encourage more butterflies to visit yours.
All the step-by-step instructions are contained in the Sway. You should have most of the ingredients at home and, if not, they are easy to find.
I hope you give it a try – the butterflies will be grateful!
Hopefully you will soon have lots of visitors to your garden. Don’t forget to come back to the blog and let me know how many butterflies you have seen.
The teachers are back and this time they are back outside.
Last week’s challenge was really hard but we can tell most people certainly had a growth mindset and took on the power of ‘YET’. Families were messaging saying that they were spending the whole week trying and trying again. Even though some of you didn’t manage it is important to know that you never gave up. Maybe, one day you will be able to build the tower.
This week we learn about how Mr.Reid is getting on in lock down. I wonder how he is feeling?
Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid @ Methlick #4
This Week’s Challenge
Skipping
You will have 60 seconds to skip as many times as possible on the sport.
Enjoy this week’s episode and don’t forget to send in your scores and find out where you place on the leader board next week.
As one of this week’s Numeracy focuses is Addition, and as we are also having an Eco fortnight, I thought I’d share this idea with you. It’s a good way to improve your adding skills, it reuses empty plastic bottles, and it’s a fun outdoor activity for the whole family.
Have a look at the Sway, which explains everything you need to do in order to have a game of Skittle Addition.
Don’t forget to come back on the blog to let me know how you got on and who got the best score in your family. Good luck!
In their Hardest Challenge Yet, the Teachers are Back!
Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid returns this week to bring you an episode inside. We understand not everyone is able to get outside as much as they would like. So, this challenge is perfect for indoors.
This challenge needs time and patience, a perfect opportunity for you to find a quiet space to practice. It is best when you have calm breathing and you are focused. This challenge was really hard for both Mr.Mutch and Mr.Reid.
We both had to believe in ‘The Power of Yet!’ and keep trying.
We are now on episode 3 and we are both very thankful to all the families taking part and making it a big competition in their homes. We have been sent pictures, videos and messages of all the hilarity these challenges have caused.
Enjoy episode 3 and don’t forget to message in your time and find out where you place on the leaderboard next week!
In keeping with our Eco theme, I have thought of some maths-related outdoor activities which I hope you’ll enjoy. The first is on the topic of Area, while the second is on Measuring.
Explanations for both activities can be found in the Sway below.
Remember – there are links on the Spicy grid which provide help with calculating area and measurements. Check them out if you’re unsure about anything.
Don’t forget to record your findings in your Home Learning Journal or Sway. You can also send them to myself or your teacher in an email to let us see your results.
