Sports Day Wednesday: Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid #6

THEY ARE BACK!

Ready to take on Sports Day!

Both teachers returned to their competitive views on each other after Friday’s Big Night In.

Because it was Health Fortnight, they decided to use the Sport Day Grid you will be using at home, and adapt the tasks so that it could relate to a timed event.

Enjoy this week’s episode of Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid.

This week’s challenge:

Sports Day Stations

Both teachers must complete 4 stations in the shortest amount of time. We set up our stations all within a 5 metre shuttle run with the equipment waiting at the side.

We have….

The Shuttle Run, Star Jumps, Tattie and Spoon and the Shoe Throw.

We hope you have fun and remember to comment, email or seesaw your results to get on the leader board.

My Safe Place – Health Week- Science Stem Activity

Good Morning Everyone,

This week is Health week, you have been doing different nice activities and I thought we could link some of them with our activity for today. As you can read from the title and see in the photo you will build a safe place inside your house, a place where you can go when you feel sad, mad, scared or happy.

You can use this place to do things that will help to take those feelings that are sometimes not very nice and transform them into happiness. Some things you can do here can be: read your book for the Book Club, have a healthy snack, sing songs, listen to good music, tell a story, play with your toys, use the paper phones you made last week and all others you might be thinking just now.

I am going to be using 6 designs that IKEA posted as part of a quarantine campaign encouraging people to stay home. All of them have different materials that you will have at home from blankets to books, if you don’t you can always replace them for something else.  Instructions are simple, consisting only of images. Choose 1 and with your family build your perfect safe place.

Make sure you have an adult supervision and the structure is safe to be inside.

Let’s see!

Design 1: You’ll just need a table, 2 sheets, a few books, and laundry pins.

Design 2: You will need a clothes rack, sheets, LED lighting chain (battery), books, pins and a hanging drier.

Design 3: You will need your sofa, a sheet, LED lighting chain (battery), books,  and cushions.

Design 4: You will need a hanger,  sheets, LED lighting chain (battery), books, clips and cushions.

Design 5: You will need your sofa,  sheets, a blanket, pins and cushions.

Design 6: You will need a hanger,  4 chairs, sheets, a blanket/rug, LED lighting chain (battery), pins and cushions.

Don’t forget to post your comments and send a photo of your tents!

Mild Literacy and HWB – Sky journal

I hope you have enjoyed being outdoors and observing the sky.

Did you SEE, THINK and WONDER?

I was left wondering what some of the clouds shapes were called.

Some people choose to observe the sky as a job, they are called Meteorologists.

Mrs Still ,as well as being one of our wonderful PSAs, is a Meteorologist Observer.

She has kindly written this  guide to the clouds for us, isn’t that fantastic!

I have had a go at writing a sky journal.

I’m not finished, now that I have Mrs Still’s book I am going to have a go at writing about different cloud formations, I will share on Friday.

Take a blanket and lie down and look at the sky, I find it very calming! ENJOY!

HWB – Mild – BEE Kind Badge Design

During Eco fortnight we have encouraged you to

  • wander in the wild and wonder
  • learn about dandelions and bees
  • think about the wellbeing of bees
  • take part in the Pollinator Promise

AND SO MANY OF YOU HAVE!

Our final health and wellbeing challenge is

to design a badge that we could use on the blog to encourage others to keep dandelions and grow pollinators

  1. THINK about the things you have learned that we need to do to be kind to bees.
  2. WRITE a BEE KIND Checklist
  3. PLAN your design to include the items on your BEE KIND Checklist
  4. CREATE!

We are really looking forward to seeing your designs.

Go for it BUSY BEES!

If you need some ideas to get you started have a look at the SWAY.

Well-Being Wednesday: Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid #4

MR.REID IS ON A MISSION!

The teachers are back and this time they are back outside.

Last week’s challenge was really hard but we can tell most people certainly had a growth mindset and took on the power of ‘YET’. Families were messaging saying that they were spending the whole week trying and trying again. Even though some of you didn’t manage it is important to know that you never gave up. Maybe, one day you will be able to build the tower.

This week we learn about how Mr.Reid is getting on in lock down. I wonder how he is feeling?

Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid @ Methlick #4

This Week’s Challenge

Skipping

You will have 60 seconds to skip as many times as possible on the sport.

Enjoy this week’s episode and don’t forget to send in your scores and find out where you place on the leader board next week.

Mild HWB – The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee

SEW –  we thought you might like to take part in a Sewing Bee!

This is when a group of people get together to sew and make. They share ideas, help , encourage and have a laugh!

🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

HUGE THANKS TO MRS STILL AND MRS WEBSTER FOR BEING SUCH BUSY SEWING BEES!!

🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

On BBC 1 there is a programme called ‘The Sewing Bee’ – there are 3 parts

  • The Pattern Challenge

  • The Makeover Challenge

  • The Made to Measure Challenge – let’s rethink this challenge!

The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee – Pattern Challenge

To follow the pattern to succeed

The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee –  Makeover Challenge

To ‘makeover’ an old piece of clothing and turn it into a bee or any pollinator of your choice!

Each week on the television programme contestants are given an everyday item to makeover into a new item in a very short amount of time. Last week each contestant had a sleeping bag and they had to make a children’s costume. The results were amazing!

The Methlick School Eco Sewing Bee Cardboard Challenge

No fabric then why not try this cardboard sewing challenge instead!

I hope you enjoy taking part in one of these challenges or inventing your own!

🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

My daughter was bored on Saturday. It was snowing! She was grumbling! Eventually she agreed to have a go at making a bee and she surprised herself! She made her own pattern and sewed from lunchtime until late evening until she finished! Sewing is a very important skill for her future career as she is studying to become a vet so this was good practise as well.

Making, sewing, building, tinkering away at a project in your imagination can be very absorbing. You can forget about everything around you for a while!

Methlick’s Big Night In – Community Challenge – Poster Design

Good morning everyone!

If you have watched Mrs Fraser’s assembly this morning, then you will be aware of the upcoming event – Methlick’s Big Night In!

On the 22nd of May, the staff at Methlick School will be putting on a quiz night for everyone in the community to participate in – all from the comfort of your own home. It will be filmed as a video and accessed through the ‘Methlick Primary’ YouTube channel. We will post up links to the video on both the blog and SeeSaw.

To publicise the event, we need your help! Mrs Fraser has created a poster but we need the talented pupils of Methlick School to design a new and improved version.

All the information for the event can be found on Mrs Fraser’s poster. We would be thrilled if you could help us and design your own.

Here are some helpful tips:

  • Include all the information
  • Make sure it is neatly presented
  • Use an eye-catching design and layout
  • Lots of bold and bright colours
  • Include pictures or drawings that are related to a quiz night

If you create a poster, please email a picture of it to your class teacher. This will help us to publicise the event so that everyone in the Methlick community knows about it! Please can all posters be completed by Friday (15th).

Thank you for your help and remember to set your calendars for May 22nd – Methlick’s Big Night In!

Well-Being Wednesday: Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid #3

In their Hardest Challenge Yet, the Teachers are Back!

Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid returns this week to bring you an episode inside. We understand not everyone is able to get outside as much as they would like. So, this challenge is perfect for indoors.

This challenge needs time and patience, a perfect opportunity for you to find a quiet space to practice. It is best when you have calm breathing and you are focused. This challenge was really hard for both Mr.Mutch and Mr.Reid.
We both had to believe in ‘The Power of Yet!’ and keep trying.
We are now on episode 3 and we are both very thankful to all the families taking part and making it a big competition in their homes. We have been sent pictures, videos and messages of all the hilarity these challenges have caused.

Enjoy episode 3 and don’t forget to message in your time and find out where you place on the leaderboard next week!

Mr.Mutch’s Digital Skills Quest #2

Lets get ready for Episode 1!

So last term I started a new challenge for myself to learn some digital skills to take back to the classroom. I decided to do this through making a web-show that we can all take part in creating.

This is a project that we could easily continue when we are back to school, learning about screen-writing, story-boarding, filming and editing in a club.

I’ve already started my learning journey by producing ‘Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid which I think has been quite popular. For Mr.Reid and myself to communicate so far away we had to make codes and notes that we could understand. So that was my first step into story boarding. You can see in the sway below a sneak peak of some of the story boards from the episode. Can you match the drawings to the shot in the final video?

You can follow the sway below to get and update and find out what the first episode is going to be about with the first roll.

It’s going to be a wild story as I’m going to have to get my thinking hat on. I’ll be in charge of the first 3 cubes but you have to tell me what I should do to finish the story.

I asked you last time to create for me a logo for the Web Show. I have a few in but would like a larger group to feature in the opening titles.

Here is the task from last time:

So Lets find out about the show…

A synopsis:

Imagine the Magic Key from Biff, Chip and Kipper, mixed with Jumanji, add a dash of bedtime stories, all told through story cubes and you will have my idea of the Web Show.

A boy receives a strange package in the mail, it has an oddly written letter and a bag full of cubes. The cubes all have a variety of different symbols on them, they are Story Cubes. When he rolls the cubes, the symbols that are on top will become the story that he is sucked into (just like the magic key stories). The cubes will lead him on an eventful adventure until he returns home. Each adventure will be different as you never know how the cubes will roll.

6 cubes will be rolled each time, an episode will cover the first three cubes. It will be your task to look at the remaining cubes and write the second half of the story. It will be up to me to choose one or combine a few ideas and film the next episode. These stories can be as imaginative as possible as it will be up to me to figure out how to bring the story to life learning new digital skills along the way while staying at home.

The Web-Show will be called ‘CUBES’

Your first task  is to design for me the logo of the show, something that I will use in the title sequence.

Your Success Criteria

  • It must include the name ‘Cubes’
  • It must relate to the synopsis you have been given
  • It must be colourful
  • It must be readable and viewed easily at a glance

If you can think of a tagline for the show, that would also be great to add to your design. Or you can try to create an animation for the title sequence on Scratch Jr.

I look forward to see your logos.
