S3 Business Management

This course provides pupils the opportunity to learn more about the business environment and how it changes due to technological advances.  Pupils will investigate external factors and the impact on they have on business in general.

This course is aimed at covering Level 3 and 4 Business Management Curriculum for Excellence outcomes.

S4 Business Management

The Course introduces learners to the dynamic, changing, competitive and economic environment of industry and commerce. It develops skills in communicating and presenting business-related information, in a variety of formats, to the various stakeholders of an organisation. These skills developed will enable learners to succeed in life with determination and the ability to think logically and in a problem solving orientated manner.

Levels Covered

National 3/4 Business and National 5 Business Management.

Assessment

National 3

Learners will be assessed on an on-going basis as they progress through the course.

National 4

Learners will be assess on an ongoing basis as they progress through the course. They will also complete and Added Value unit – set by the SQA.

In the assessment, candidates research and communicate findings on a business-related topic drawn from the Course, and use their research findings to prepare and communicate a simple business proposal for an aspect of a small business. This business may be real or notional.

National 5 Assessment

Learners will be assessed by means of a question paper worth 70 marks set by the SQA and an assignment worth 30 marks.

The assessment will assess the skills, knowledge and understanding of:

  • Selecting an appropriate business topic or issue
  • Collecting information/evidence relating to the context of the topic or issue from a range of sources
  • Applying knowledge and understanding of business concepts to explain and analyse the key features of the topic or issue
  • Analysing the business data/information to reach valid conclusions relating to the business topic or issue
  • Producing an appropriately formatted business report which clearly communicates findings to the owner/manager of the organisation

Int2/Higher Business Management (S5/6)

The aims of this course is to develop an understanding of the role and functions of management. The analytical, problem solving and decision making skills required by managers are also a focus of the course.

 

The course has 3 units:

 

  • Business Enterprise

 

This Unit enables candidates to gain a knowledge and understanding of the role, purpose and decision making processes of business in contemporary society and to develop their knowledge of the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in business.

 

  • Business Decision Areas: Marketing and Operations

 

This Unit is designed to enable candidates to analyse the roles of the Marketing and Operations functions in organisations. It enables candidates to analyse the marketing and operations decisions which organisations must take in order to ensure that they meet their objectives.

 

  • Business Decision Areas: Finance and Human Resource Management

 

This Unit is designed to enable candidates to analyse the roles of the Finance and Human Resources functions in organisations. It enables candidates to analyse the finance and human resource decisions

which organisations must take in order to ensure that they meet their objectives

 

Regular homework will be issued.

Assessment

Each unit will be assessed by a National Assessment Bank (NAB) assessment. If any pupil is unsuccessful at this assessment they will be allowed one resit. All 3 units are required to gain an overall course award.

 

Pupils will sit a final external exam set by the SQA.
