In Kemnay Academy English Faculty we are delighted to now have use of Accelerated Reader, an on-line program for promoting and enhancing reading.

We recognise that pupils are busier than ever and that, often, reading for pleasure can decrease. Our aim is to push reading as priority in S1 and S2 as we believe it will be of benefit throughout their school career across all curricular areas.  It is our ambition by promoting reading for pleasure, pupils will be able to access more difficult texts and ultimately improve attainment across all subject areas.

All pupils are assessed and given a reading range (ZPD), they choose a book from their range and read within their 40 minute reading period at school. Once they have finished their book, they take a quiz on-line which can be accessed at school or at home via Glow.

Results of these quizzes allow us to monitor understanding and allow us to support the pupil where needed. Pupils have been enjoying using AR.

We need your help. If you could please encourage your child to bring their Young Scot card and book daily, encourage them to read at least 10-15 minutes a day where possible and talk to them about what they are reading it would ensure the pupils are getting the best out of the program.
