Please find the details for Kemnay Academy Adverse Weather Arrangements
Aberdeenshire Council has a clear presumption in favour of keeping establishments open whenever practicable and safe to do so, in order to minimise the impact on learning provision and associated community impact. However, on occasions the decision may be made by the Head Teacher in consultation with local transport operators that it is not deemed safe for pupils and staff to travel to the school so the facility will not be opened.
Information detailing school closures is on the Aberdeenshire Schools Information Line and the Aberdeenshire Adverse Weather website. Local radio stations will broadcast the information that is on the website.
The Head Teacher will update the Aberdeenshire website in line with the weather conditions at the earliest opportunity. In the event of the decision being made to not open the school due to adverse weather information will be posted as per the information below:
- a) The following radio stations will broadcast information received from Website
BBC Radio Scotland DAB/FM 92.5 – 94.7; MW 810 or 990

The school will also put a message on social media on Kemnay Academy Facebook and Twitter account. Learning activities for pupils will be available on TEAMS and the support of parents/carers is sought to encourage their children to make use of on-line educational resources or carry out revision, in the event of a school closure.
Where the school remains open, but school transport is not running, please do not take your child(ren) to school yourself, unless it is safe to do so. If you do take your child(ren) to school, you must also be able to collect them at the end of the day.
The school operates an adverse weather closure procedure to ensure that all pupils are returned home safely.
When adverse weather conditions are anticipated during the school day which could put
children at risk the Head Teacher will make arrangements to send pupils home.
The school will contact parents by sending messages to the Expressions App. We would request that parents reply to the text message acknowledging receipt of the information that pupils will be sent home from school.
It is important that pupils are aware of the transport contract they are listed against and travel on this bus home. The school will use the bus registers from the Pupil Transport Unit to ensure that pupils arrive home on the bus that is listed on their bus pass. Parents and carers can help support this by ensuring that their child(ren) are aware of their contract number and are travelling on the correct bus. Pupils not registering for their bus and trying to travel home on alternative buses will cause delays in buses being able to leave school.
Should you have any further queries regarding this please contact the school/PTU.
