P7 Drugs Awareness and Internet Safety Talk

Both Primary 7 classes had a Policeman in to talk to them about Internet Safety and Drugs Awareness! Both classes are currently doing revision on Living and Growing, and looking at other areas of the topic.!

They learnt about some of the many different types of drugs and how some can be used in medicines and some can be illegal and can seriously harm people. They learnt about how some drugs can slow down your brain and how you react to things, some can speed up your brain and make you more alert and how some can make you hallucinate!

In the second talk the policeman told the class about Internet Safety, he told them that not selecting private on social networking sites is a bit like putting a sign in your garden with your personal details on it and leaving your front door open and allowing anyone to walk into your house and look at your photos, bedroom etc.

The Primary 7’s really enjoyed the talk and found it very interesting!

staying safe on the internet !

Last Tuesday the two p6 classes did an assembly, talking about how to stay safe on the internet. Some of the facts that learnt  is that there  are smart rules. S stands for safe, M is for meeting,  A is for accepting all the junk email,  R means reliable ,  T stands  for tell. There was also other facts –  like don’t give your personal details to people that you don’t know that person.

Remember that is it’s a jungle out there!

P7 Felting

A couple of weeks ago, Primary 7 invited in Rhoda Bain, a felter who has made hats and various items for the Linden Tree (a local shop in Huntly).

Primary 7 have been studying St Kilda this term and were learning about the St Kildans clothing, they decided to find out about felting! The class dyed some wool to use and Rhoda brought in some of her own.

Firstly a group started carding the sheeps fleece, they would then hand it over to the felters, they would then place all the wool they gathered and arrange it on a bamboo sheet, when they were satisfied they covered it in water and rubbed soap into it! They then rolled the bamboo sheet up and rolled it back and forth 20 times, they continued these steps until the wool was firmly stuck together.

Another group were covering pebbles in wool, firstly they chose 2 colours of wool and wrapped them both around the pebble, they then wrapped silk around it, they dunked it in a basin of hot water with olive soap in it and squirted some fairy liquid on top, they then wrapped it in bubble wrap and squeezed it for 15 – 20 minutes!

The Primary 7 Pupils enjoyed their time with Rhoda and hope for her to return to do the same thing with next years class!

Pictures coming soon…

P7 assembly

The Primary sevens have been learning about the rainforests of the world. They did some little plays about the weather, drums , plants, animals and about people destroying the rain forests. At the end they did a vote on the rainforests plays. Then a group of drummers played some songs like the tribes do. In some of the plays there arguments, discussions and lots of great facts.

At the beginning all the class sang “It’s a Wonderful World’ while we saw a slide show of lovely wildlife photos.

The p7 assembly was very entertaining and it gave us a lot to think about.

friendship tree

As you had probably noticed there is a tree in the school hall thats looking a bit bare at the moment.

The whole school is taking part in a big tree from the famous quote “friendship is a sheltering tree.” Each class has beeen getting little bits and bobs, such as leaves insects and flowerpots. As their project p6 has been learning about friendship and bullying and the class came up with the idea to make a tree representingwe are all Gordon Primary School.”

everybody will be taking part even the teachers.

The Nursery and P1s will be getting flower pots, they will put their names on the pot and write what they think friendship is on the petals.

P2s to p7s will be doing leaves that they can decorate with their names.  Also they will be getting insects or birds to write on what they think friendship is.

The  staff will be getting watering cans to sign.

So every single person in Gordon Primary will be taking part.

We are looking forward to seeing the completed tree flourishing and full of leaves!
