Inter-Schools Commonwealth Games

On Monday 16 th  June 2014 p4b and p4a did our own commonwealth games with other local schools. The schools included were Rhynie, Gartly, Forgue and so on. Our country was Northern  Ireland and some of the  other  countries  were Australia, South Africa and Malta . We had great time! Our team did not  win but we did well.  The  Javelin was my favourite.  I threw it so far so it went past both of the cones!

Walking Group

There has been a great response to the lunchtime walking group, organised by Active Sports. Sixty pupils wanted to take part, so many that the walking group has had to be split into two groups. One group will walk every Wednesday from now until the Easter break and the second group will walk after Easter up to the summer holidays.

The first group enjoyed their first walk yesterday, walking down the Avenue, past the castle and back up to school. Everyone enjoyed the fresh air, the change of scene and the chance to have a chat to friends.

Walking club

On Wednesday from next week (Wednesday the 21st) there will be a walking club.

It will be run by Mrs Sell, Miss Love, Mrs Murray and  Mrs Strachen. It’s for P3 to P6 and its absolutely free!!!!

It runs on a Wednesday lunchtime from half past twelve till one o’clock. The club will run in all but  EXTREME weather. The first route that the club will take will be down the Avenue up round the castle and back.

Its for all skill levels and is good exercise. Walkers will have a good chance to enjoy some fresh air and to blether to their friends!

P7 Playmakers

All pupils in P7 were given a form asking if they would like to be a playmaker and asking for information on what would make them a good playmaker.

All the forms will get read and the people with the best forms got put to training at the Stuarts Hall!

They learn’t loads of different games and what to do if someone had nobody to play with!

They have learn’t a lot, and will help anyone without a friend in the future!

Judo

Primary 4 classes and primary 2 have been very lucky to be given two Judo workshops.

Stuart and Callum, two Judo experts came into Gordon Primary to work with the children. First the children did warm ups, playing fun games. They did a frog run.

They were taught to bow to their opponent and to speak some Japanese.

They learnt some simple Judo moves, such as using your chest to hold down an opponent. Stuart and Callum showed them how to do a judo throw; some of the pupils even managed to throw Stuart and Callum!

To finish off they played exciting games of tug of war.

They were reminded that judo is a martial art that you need to be trained in, and not to try it out in the playground.

Fortunately they will have a chance to develop their Judo skills and judo classes will be starting at Gordon Primary after school in the new Year (organised by Mark Borzoni from Active sports).

Many P4 pupils are keen to learn judo and are really looking forward to the lessons starting.
