Winter Olympics Sochi 2014

As you all probably know 4 lucky people  have been able to represent Huntly at the winter olympics.  These people are Rosamund Muskgrave,  Andrew Muskgrave,  Andrew Young and Callum Smith.  They are all competing in cross country sprint. Rosamund will be competing in the womans race and the Andrew.M, Andrew.Y  and Callum are competing in the mens race which is around 600m longer than the womans race.

The race was this morning and Andrew M got through to the Quarter finals but sadly did not make to the semi finals. Callum and Andrew.Y were not fast enough to go throught to the quarter finals. ( But I couldn’t ski a 1.5 km ski track in 3 minutes 50!!!!!) Rosamund sadly did not make it through to the quarter finals either but looked like she was having great fun.

Some of the classes watched the races and started cheering each time their name was mentioned and showing lots of support. Andrew Young is an ex pupil from Gordon Primary, so the school was very proud to be watching him compete in the Olympics.

Well done to all of them we all thought you did amazingly well!!

P5a Assembly

Last week (Wednesday 28th Febuary) Primary 5a presented an assembly about their topic, the Jacobites.

They have been learning about the Jacobites since the start of term 3, they have learnt loads and are very knowledgable about them.

Their Assembly was about a group of children from Gordon Primary who built a time machine and decided to visit the time of the Jacobites. The Jacobites spoke a different language at first (gaelic) but then they found out they spoke English. The children from the past and the children from Gordon Primary had a chat, and compared their lives. The jacobite children worked hard every day collecting water, looking after animals and collecting firewood. They drank water if they were thirsty, and ate shop, bread and cheese. They didn’t eat potatoes because they hadnt been introduced to Scotland yet. They had no electricity, mobile phones. The children learnt how different life was back in the time of the Jacobites.

The whole school and P5 parents enjoyed the assembly and learnt a lot!

friendship tree

As you had probably noticed there is a tree in the school hall thats looking a bit bare at the moment.

The whole school is taking part in a big tree from the famous quote “friendship is a sheltering tree.” Each class has beeen getting little bits and bobs, such as leaves insects and flowerpots. As their project p6 has been learning about friendship and bullying and the class came up with the idea to make a tree representingwe are all Gordon Primary School.”

everybody will be taking part even the teachers.

The Nursery and P1s will be getting flower pots, they will put their names on the pot and write what they think friendship is on the petals.

P2s to p7s will be doing leaves that they can decorate with their names.  Also they will be getting insects or birds to write on what they think friendship is.

The  staff will be getting watering cans to sign.

So every single person in Gordon Primary will be taking part.

We are looking forward to seeing the completed tree flourishing and full of leaves!

The Nursery

Down  in the nursey they had a visiter called Mr. Mole. He came from the woods and the nursery  tried to get Mr  Mole to go back to the woods by leading a carrot trail.  Mr. Mole couldnt  follow the trail back because birds had  ate it, So then they made a chalk trail,  However it disappeared too, So the nursery took him to the nursery garden and are building  a little house for him to live and play in . They were very excited when they found the mole in the garden because they like having visitors in their classroom and in their garden. They are excited about how Mr Mole is getting to stay in the nursery with them.

The owl who was afraid of the dark

The p2’s yesterday did a wonderful assembly for p2 parents and the whole school.

In school as the class novel p2a have been reading “The Owl who wasAfraid of the Dark”. The book is about an owl who is afraid of the dark but has a series of meetings with  different people. They tell him that dark is exciting, kind, fun, necessary, fascinating, wonderful and beautiful. In assembly the p2s told us that they had been learning how to make a summary of a book. They had also been making posters  about nocturnal (really good) and firework displays made with chalk pastels and glitter (Absolutely Amazing!!!!)

Everybody spoke clearly and loudly. It was a very good performance  – well done!

Walking Group

There has been a great response to the lunchtime walking group, organised by Active Sports. Sixty pupils wanted to take part, so many that the walking group has had to be split into two groups. One group will walk every Wednesday from now until the Easter break and the second group will walk after Easter up to the summer holidays.

The first group enjoyed their first walk yesterday, walking down the Avenue, past the castle and back up to school. Everyone enjoyed the fresh air, the change of scene and the chance to have a chat to friends.
