The fairtrade elections are being held this week. Two people from each class will be elected as Fairtrtade rep and a fairtrade vice rep. Candidates will have to make a speech to their class, explaining why they would make a good fairtrade representative.
Mrs Innes’s Primary 1 class went to Aberdeen to do some scottish dancing at Aberdeen Music Hall last Friday 14th March They also showed everyone in assembly their dancing on the previous Wednesday. Parents came along to watch the assembly. It was very good and they put a lot of effort into it. Mrs Innes danced aswell as all the class. The P1s were wearing kilts.
Gordon Primary joined in enthusiastically with Fairtrade Fortnight. All classes in the school made posters promoting this years’ Fairtrade campaign to make bananas fair “Stick with Foncho”
All posters included the Fairtrade logo, the website address (www.stickwithfoncho.org.uk) and some bananas. Posters were displayed around our school and the Secondary school.
The Fairtrade group also sold Fairtrade bananas at morning break in the glass corridor. These proved very popular and provided a healthy snack for pupils and staff. Pupils and staff were also invited to draw their own cartoon banana on a poster of a giant banana.
Parents, pupils and staff also sent in banana recipes which will be made into a leaflet which will be given out to all families.
The nursery went to local shops to find Fairtrade products.They enjoyed looking for food with the fairtrade logo.When they went to the local shops they bought some biscuits for them to eat. They also got some bananas to eat as well. They saw the sign in the window of the Stewarts hall telling us that Huntly is a Fairtrade town. They sat down and talked about fairtrade and fairtrade products .
Back in the nursery they made snack using the fairtrade products that they bought, including some yummy fruit kebabs!
Some of the P6 fairtrade representatives went to the nursery to tell the children about the work of the school fairtrade group and about fairtrade fortnight. The nursery children also bought bananas from the fairtrade banana tuckshop in the school.

The Walking Group were rewarded with some lovely weather for their lunchtime walk last week. They walked down the Avenue, along the Deveron briefly and back to school. They stopped at the Deveron for a group photo.

Vickys Free-From Banana Loaf, Gluten, Dairy, Egg, Soy & Nut-Free
320 grams – Gluten-Free Plain Flour Mix
2 teaspoon – Gluten-Free Baking Powder
2 teaspoon – baking soda / bicarb of soda
1 teaspoon – xanthan gum
1 teaspoon – salt
1 teaspoon – ground cinnamon
125 ml – olive oil plus extra for greasing
3 large – bananas, mashed well
150 ml – rice milk
150 ml – agave nectar
1/2 teaspoon – vanilla extract
150 grams – optional extras such as cherries, chocolate chips (I use Moo-Free brand), chopped walnuts etc
Prep time is 110 min, serves 20.
Directions
1 Preheat the oven to gas 3 / 170C / 162°C and grease 2 loaf tins
2 In a bowl combine the flour mix, baking powder & soda, xanthan gum, salt and cinnamon
3 Add the oil, agave nectar, rice milk and vanilla and stir until mixture is smooth
4 Stir in the mashed bananas & any optional extras you might like to add and split the mixture into the tins, they should fill around half way up
5 Bake for 35 minutes then turn the tins around and bake for a further 20 minutes
6 The loaf should bounce back when pressed lightly on top and a skewer test will indicate that it’s done
7 Let it sit in the tins for 20 minutes before removing and setting the loaves on a wire rack to cool
8 Cover the unsliced loaf with clingfilm and store in a lidded container for up to 3 days
9 This makes 2 banana loaves each with 10 servings
The Primary sevens have been learning about the rainforests of the world. They did some little plays about the weather, drums , plants, animals and about people destroying the rain forests. At the end they did a vote on the rainforests plays. Then a group of drummers played some songs like the tribes do. In some of the plays there arguments, discussions and lots of great facts.
At the beginning all the class sang “It’s a Wonderful World’ while we saw a slide show of lovely wildlife photos.
The p7 assembly was very entertaining and it gave us a lot to think about.
