Castlehill Primary visit Muneroy Tearooms

P7 pupils from Castlehill Primary recently visited Muneroy Tearooms as part of their work leading up to the Kintyre Fun Food Festival event which will take place in CGS on the evening of Wednesday 19th November. The class had read of Francis and Ian’s success at the Scottish Baking Awards. Fifteen pupils travelled down to Southend to present them with a “Congratulations” card and to interview Francis herself.

This term our art project has been about Our Identity and what we have in Common. During this learning we took lots of photographs of our favourite things at school – in the class room and the playground – and at home. We took photos of our families, our toys, our pets and our bedrooms.

Robert Miller Baton Bearer Visits Dunoon Primary!

Robert Miller, a 4th year pupil at Dunoon Grammar School recently visited Dunoon Primary School to talk about his recent nomination as Baton Bearer in the Queen’s Baton Relay. During his enthusiastic presentation he said he was surprised to hear he had been selected from so many community nominations as up to 4000 Baton Bearers from 34 local authorities will take part in the relay.

Fairytale Celebration Event

The parents and class teachers of pupils who attend The Sunshine Room Nurture Group were invited to Parklands for a very special celebration event. The celebration event showcased a DVD of all the pupils hard work over the term on the topic of fairytales, the DVD showed the pupils planning of the topic, activities they took part in and their assessment of their own learning. Parents and class teachers said they enjoyed the event and loved seeing the pupils’ contributions.

‘Scent-Citizens’, a social enterprise business run by P4/5 in Port Ellen Primary School, has been presented with a Social Enterprise Academy Award by John Swinney, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth.

Flushed With Success at Rothesay Joint Campus

Rothesay Joint Campus Eco Committee was invited to Edinburgh last week to discuss the findings of their enquiry into school toilets. The enquiry, ‘Flushed With Success’ was initiated by Tam Baillie, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People and sounded just the sort of thing we would like to get our teeth into (in a manner of speaking!).
Over the last session we have conducted surveys about the Rights of the Child, questionnaires, created power points, had a poster campaign and uncovered the good, the bad and the ugly about school toilets!

: P2 Open Afternoon at Castlehill

Primary 2 presented the story of ‘Little Moon’ to their parents at an Open Afternoon on Friday. All the children took an active part in this presentation and proudly showed their parents all that they had been learning throughout this Day/Night/Space Topic. Parents then had the opportunity to look around the classroom and open area at all the work covered in this Interdisciplinary Topic before sampling some of the Alien snacks the children had made.

ARGYLL AND BUTE YOUNG ENTERPRISE

The annual Presentation Evening for Argyll and Bute Young Enterprise Companies was held on 1 May at the Argyll Hotel, Inveraray. Five companies were involved this year – 2 from Oban High School, one from Lochgilphead and 2 from Dunoon Grammar School. The judges – Donald Melville, Adviser from Business Gateway and Alex Emslie, retired Business Adviser had previously received copies of Company Reports to allow time to look them over and allocate marks for this part of the process.
