Primary 4 visited the Lanthorn Centre recently to take part in the P4 Cluster Service for World Book Day. Other schools taking part included Bankton, Dedridge and St Ninian’s and the service was led by Reverend Robin and the Chaplaincy Team. We showed our “I Love Reading” video and sang a lovely song. Some of us also took part in a presentation about the history of books. We really enjoyed sharing this special service with friends from other schools. Thanks to the Chaplaincy Team for organising!
Film Club
Film Club is back! The new group met for the first time this week and we got to know each other better by sharing the types of films we like to watch and our favourite film. We all have different tastes! The first film we are watching this term is The Borrowers and we will be writing reviews soon so we will let you know our thoughts!
Goodbye Magic Grandad!
Primary 2 and primary 2/1 are very sad to say goodbye to Magic Grandad. He has taught us a lot about what school and life was like in the past. We can now explain and compare school then to how school is now. We can see there has been a lot of changes over the years and are happy to be at school how it is today.
We are looking forward to our next topic and what exciting learning opportunities we will face!
Thank you Magic Grandad!
Wimbledon here we come!
Tennis is so much fun and in Primary 2 and Primary 2/1 we are learning so much in our lessons. We continued to practise our balancing and control of the racket and ball this week, we have all done so well! We really enjoy the fun games Eoin our coach plays with us. Today we played egg and spoon, around the world and animal sprint before we practised hitting the ball back to a partner using our racket and control skills. Andy Murray better watch out!!
Xīnnián kuàilè from Primary 2!
We have really enjoyed learning about the Chinese culture from Miss Sum. This week we were learning about the traditions of the Chinese New Year. We watched how to make beautiful sweet candy, and discovered how the New Year is celebrated with decorations and spending time with family.
We would like to thank Miss Sum for spending this time with us and wish her a very happy new year!
Xīnnián kuàilè Miss Sum.
Arts and Craft after school club.
Today in our arts and craft after school club we made beautiful rainbow wind chimes. We painted our wind chimes and even had a go of mixing colours together to make green and red before gluing tissue paper on to create our chimes. I’m sure you will agree that these are very pretty and will be beautiful hanging at our windows for the spring breeze, which will arrive soon we hope!
Fairtrade Fortnight
Last week as part of our literacy focus grouptime the nursery children looked at recipes and what they consisted of. With this in mind we created our own recipes as part of our Fairtrade Fortnight activities. This week and next, we are going to be very busy baking some Fairtrade goodies using a selection of recipes we have chosen. Look out for some tasy treats coming home over the next week or so! The children are also hoping to make a collage using labels with the Fairtrade logo on them so please send in any packaging or wrappers that could be used.
P4 Trout Release
Primary 4 bid a fond farewell to their Brown Trout friends! We had successfully reared them from eggs to fry over the last few weeks and they were ready to swim free in the big, wide world. The trout fry were released into the Murieston Water, near the Co-op. We also had the opportunity to observe the river life and we found many interesting little bugs that will provide food for our trout. This project was supported by Forth Fisheries, Murieston Environmental Group and Dedridge Environment Ecology Project – many thanks to all involved!
Primary 2 and 2/1’s Visit to Scotland Street Museum
Today we were transported back in time and all we had learned about Magic Grandad’s School days came to life!!! We had a fantastic time experiencing school as it was for children who lived 80 years ago. We would encourage you to ask your child to share their favourite parts of the day with you as we are sure they will paint a far better picture than we ever could!!! Please enjoy the photos and videos attached.
‘The Impossible Task’
The afternoon nursery have been part of a project that explores the impossible task and how young children deal with challenges. We have worked with Miss Clarke who is helping us explore these ideas. Miss Clarke is helped by ‘Pilot Bear’. Some ideas we have explored have been to do with our bodies: can we stand on one foot? Can we touch our noses with our tongue? Can we touch our elbow with our tongue?
Some children were able to do these! We then read ‘How To Catch A Star’ by Oliver Jeffers. This helped us think about the wider world and we came up with our own ideas for how we could blow away the clouds and how to poke the sun out of the sky. One pupil brought in a rocket to see if we could fly into the sky but sadly we all couldn’t fit into the rocket. The project continues with pupil taking Pilot Bear home to look at more impossible tasks.
