P3a’s Assembly

We had a great time presenting the assembly to our parents, family and friends this morning. Our assembly was on the value of “wisdom”. There was singing, dancing, drama and lots of stories. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing our learning with everyone. We now know the difference between knowledge and wisdom and hopefully we will make wise choices in the future. Our teachers are very proud of us!

Come and find out about what we have been doing in P4a!

We are pleased to say that our show rehearsals are going well! We have learned all the songs and dances and we have practised each scene at least once. Next week our rehearsals will move to the big hall and we will start putting it altogether. We have begun making scenery – thanks to our parent helpers – and we have sent out a letter about tickets (get your order in fast!)

Our new health topic is medicines and drugs. We have started by thinking about different types of drugs, why people use them/take them and some of the dangers of drugs. In science, we have continued learning about electricity and this week we made electrical circuits including a bulb and a switch. We also learned how to draw these using symbols. In P.E. we continued practising our Kurling skills and we are now ready for a game. In art, we have been studying portraits of Mary Queen of Scots and we have begun working on our own portraits. We have started by drawing Mary’s face and part of her body and we will soon be painting her.

In maths, our fractions topic involved us learning about equivalent fractions and ordering fractions. For example, we know that a half is the same as 2 quarters and a fifth is bigger than a tenth. We enjoyed our “I love Maths” morning which had a focus on fractions, time and calculations. Thanks to the parents/carers that came along. In language, we presented our group “Big 5” talks about Scotland’s Big 5 animals: the otter, the red deer, the golden eagle, the harbour seal and the red squirrel. We also wrote Robin Hood stories inspired by our show.

Last week we enjoyed the taster Judo session as part of Health Fortnight. We also took part in a orienteering challenge to find different food types – some of us found the map-reading a little tricky and we had to run from one end of the playground to the other!

P7a 2.6.17

Marcello started a Warhammer club that is going well. We enjoyed hockey with Neil. We have worked on our P7 Yearbook. We have been learning to read maps. We reflected on our Drugs and Alcohol learning. We found out the days that we are going to JYHS for transition. In groups, we made up games to demonstrate our maths learning then taught them to parents and S3 pupils at JYHS. Some people said they gained knowledge, from us, about circles that they did not already know! During Bikeability we went into the car park to learn to ride safely on roads. We learned to say our family words in french. In maths we have been working with tonnes, kg and g to measure weight.

Primary 1 Induction

Nursery – Primary 1 transition Information 2017

Parents and children who will be starting Primary 1 in august at Williamston PS are invited to a parent information session on Wednesday 14th June 2017 form 9.30 – 12.00.

Parents will receive all the information they need about their children starting Primary 1 as well as information which they will find useful throughout their child’s time at Williamston Primary School.

The children will spend the morning in their P1 classes where they will meet the teachers and have a chance to ask questions, get to know their classmates and use some of the resources in their classroom.

At approx. 11.30am, the parents will collect their children from the P1 classrooms and those who have ordered lunch, will take them to the dining hall where they will get to know the lunch routine.  Those who have not ordered a lunch are welcome to visit the lunch hall and share a packed lunch with their child in this environment.

We look forward to seeing you all on the day.

New Nursery Children for session 2017-18

Dear Parent/Carer,
There will be a information meeting for all new nursery parents on Tuesday 13th June 2017 at 9.15 am in the large hall. Please note that this session is for parents only and children should not attend.

In order to give parents/carers as much notice as possible, and as we are still waiting on a final list of children who will be starting with us next session, we would appreciate if you could share this information with any friends or family members who will have a child starting at Williamston PS Nursery next session.

Following this, we will be holding a pupil nursery induction on Friday 23rd June.
If a child has been allocated an MORNING session, their induction will be from 1pm – 2pm in WPS nursery.
If a child has been allocated an AFTERNOON session, their induction will be from 2.30 – 3.30 in WPS nursery,
Parents are asked to stay with their child for the duration of this session. They will be given all of the forms which need to be completed and returned on their child’s first day of nursery. The children will be allocated a key worker group and will get to spend some time getting to know their key worker. We will also take a photograph of your child at the session which will be used as their name card, for snack, and on their coat peg when they start with us.

Please note that this information will also be sent out to parents as soon as we have this information.

We look forward to meeting the children and their parents./carers on the day.

Kind regards,

Mrs Vince

On Wednesday P7 went to James Young High school to take part in lots of different sport activities; football, handball, tennis, basketball and dance. We also found out who we will be in a tutor group with and met other P7 pupils from cluster schools.

Some of the P7 pupils took part in the Track and Field athletics event. We enjoyed taking part in this, especially because it was such a sunny day!

As part of health fortnight we took part in a Kuk Sool Won taster session. Shay and Gregor lead lots of this and shared their knowledge with us. We were complimented on our skills and efforts!

Erin and Scott took part in a brass music exam at JYHS on Thursday. They enjoyed the experience and felt that they did well. They will find out their results next week.

We have been preparing for the PATPAL event at JYHS on Tuesday and we are looking forward to sharing our learning with you!

Miss Ramsay has joined us this week for 4 weeks and we are looking forward to working with her.

Have a lovely weekend,

P7b and Miss Brown
