Primary 3/2’s Friendship Assembly

We really enjoyed performing our assembly to family members and Nursery to Primary 3 today. Miss Trotter was very proud of us all.

We have been learning a lot about the value of the month, Friendship. We know how important friends are to us and how to be a good friend. We will treat our friends like we would like to be treated because…. ‘The only way to have a friend is to be one.’

Value of the Month- Friendship- December

As part of our Religious and Moral Education values programme we are wishing to engage parents in discussing this value at home with your children and family to deepen their understanding of the importance of the value and what it can mean to us as individuals.

We are sharing some starter questions and prompts for families to help with this discussion.

Please find below some examples of discussion questions for you to use at home, these are not exhaustive nor do they need to be discussed in order and please feel free to add others of your own.

If you wish you can record this in your child’s homework jotter  through notes or drawing or  if a parent could write ‘ Ask me about our family discussion on Excellence ‘ in your child’s HW  jotter. Some stages have included this in their home learning grids and recording that this has happened can be indicated on the sheet and on the back of the sheet.

DECEMBER- Our value of the month is FRIENDSHIP.

What do you think makes someone a good friend? Why?

Who are your friends?

Who do you think is a good friend?

What is it about that person that makes him/her a good friend?

What do you like to do with your friends?

How do you feel when you are with your friends?

Draw a picture of your friends and or things you like to do with your friends?

Thank you

Primary 3 Wedding

We held our wonderful wedding ceremony and reception yesterday where we all witnessed the marriage of Eden and Joshua.

It all began with hymns, vows, poetry and exchanging rings in the small hall.  We were lucky enough to have a break in the weather to allow us to take outdoor pictures and then we all went back inside for the party!  Speeches, food, cutting the cake, the first dance and a disco all took place and we had a fantastic time!

Inspire Aspire Awards

P5, P6 and P7 all took part in the Inspire Aspire programme this session.  The theme for P5 and P6 was “Global Citizens in the Making” and this programme allowed pupils to explore their character, ideals and values through a poster template. It supported them in exploring the type of person they want to become, their vision for a better world and what they can do to bring this vision to life.  P7 took part in a pilot programme, new this year for the WW1 Centenary. The theme was “WW1- Inpiring Purpose” and this programme  allowed pupils to learn about the values from history and the heroic stories of those that fought and suffered on the front, while at the same time learning more about themselves and considering what they believe is important in life, again by completing a poster template.

We are delighted to inform you that Niamh from P5b has won an award and will soon attend a very special award ceremony in Glasgow. Well done to all who took part and congratulations to Niamh!

Value of the Month

The value of the month for May was “Responsibility”. Gavin, our local Scripture Union Representative, came into school recently to lead two assemblies on this value. He visited P6 classes to discuss this in more depth.  P3a and P5a also held special assemblies about this important value. The value of the month for June is “Perseverance”.

Responsibility in P3a

At assembly this morning, we taught the nursery children, P1s, 2s and 3s all about the value of RESPONSIBILITY.

We have spent the last couple of weeks learning all about responsibility and working hard to share our learning with the rest of the infant classes.

We showed pictures we had drawn of us being responsible at home, showed photographs of us being responsible in school, sang a song and performed a drama of the story of The Good Samaritan.

Miss Robertson and other teachers around the school have complimented us for doing such a good job and we’re very proud that we taught everyone all about our Value of the month.

P6; a busy few weeks!

IMG_1084P6 have had a busy few weeks and are now preparing and thinking about our responsibilities when we start P7. Most of us have been given a new P1 as a buddy; some of us met our buddy last week and enjoyed getting to know them. We have discussed the responsibilities that go with this job and we are all committed to ensuring that our new buddy is happy and enjoying their first year at Williamston! The rest of us can’t wait to meet our buddies when they come for their visit in a couple of weeks! In other news, we have been working hard to learn plural rules and apply this in our writing; we have learned 8 different plural rules so far and we all feel much more confident about singular and plural rules! We also enjoyed our recent group activity where we were asked to source materials to make a sukkot. Sukkot commemorates the years that the Jews spent in the desert on their way to the Promised Land, and celebrates the way in which God protected them under difficult desert conditions. Jewish families will build an open air structure in which to live during this holiday. The essential thing about the hut is that it should have a roof of branches and leaves, through which those inside can see the sky, and that it should be a temporary and flimsy thing. We think our attempts were very successful, although not life size, this activitiy really helped with our understanding of this Jewish festival.

P4 Easter Gardens

In Primary 4 we have been learning about the Christian festival of Easter. We revised the Easter story and found out about Easter customs and their meaning. We were set a group challenge to design, plan and make an Easter Garden. It was great fun collecting the resources and working with our classmates. Skills we developed included creativity, problem-solving and team-work. Take a look at some of our Easter Gardens!

Values

Primary 6b and Primary 1b recently held their class assemblies about the “Value of the Month” for March which was “Fairness” The classes helped us learn more about this value through stories, drama sketches and songs. The value linked with our recent focus on Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight. Many thanks to all involved!
