Splashes of learning in P5!

P5 have had a brilliant second week back at school! Weโ€™ve been busy learning some Spanish and practising basic greetings โ€“ ยกHola! In literacy, the children were introduced to new reciprocal reading skills, helping them to work together and share ideas when reading. In science, we explored the water cycle, learning about evaporation, condensation and precipitation, and the children really enjoyed linking this to what they see in the weather around them. We also continued our creative work on our classroom door display and class charter, making sure our room reflects the values and ideas that are important to us as a class.

Another busy week in Rannoch class

This week the children have been very busy learning and having fun! They loved exploring the sensory room with its lights, sounds, and textures, and had lots of active play on the trim trail. In class, we have been practising coming to the teaching table for learning and joining in with our morning group times. Snack and lunch have also been lovely opportunities to share, make choices, and build independence. We are especially proud that some children are now starting to use their visuals really well to show what they want โ€” a big step forward in their communication. ๐Ÿ˜€

Stay tuned to see what we get up to next week! ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Week two in Primary 1

We have a fantastic week in Primary 1!

Everyone has done fantastic work during our phonics lessons. In Primary 1 we will be learning a new sound every day which it lots of work but all the boys and girls have been fantastic. We use Read Write in to help us learn our sounds.

We are not only learning how to say the sounds but write โœ๏ธ them as well, Miss Stenhouse is so proud of everyone.

In number work we are beginning to learn all about different numbers, how to build then, count them, make them and write them.

All the boys and girls are showing amazing concentration.

Throughout the day we all enjoy exploring the toys and playing with our friends.

Have a lovely weekend.

From next week, we look forward to bringing you news of the travels of Taylor our class mascot. He will be journeying beyond the school to see what the members of Tay class get up to!

This week has been lovely! It has been our first full week as members of Tay. We have enjoyed playing on our musical instruments, navigating the Trim Trail and enjoying lots of sand play in the Outdoor Classroom! We have also enjoyed trying out our class spinning chairs and looking at our books in our class library.

Welcome to Primary 1

Wow ๐Ÿคฉ what an amazing first week in Primary 1!
All the boys and girls ย have settled in well to school and are gaining confidence when going for break and lunch with the other boys and girls.

We have been learning our school values and that we all have rights. We all used our finger prints and hand prints to agree to try our best to show our school values, and remind us of our rights.

We are all looking forward to lots of learning and playing this year.

P2โ€™s Recycling Fortnight

Over the last 2 weeks, as part of a whole school topic, P2 have been learning all about recycling. โ™ป๏ธ

We started our topic by having a pupil voice planning session as to what we would like to learn and what we already knew. We read through our story book and made a list in our floor book.
We learned about the different coloured bins, what goes in each bin, why it is important that we separate it and where each the rubbish goes. We created our own bins by reusing cardboard boxes, painting them different colours and labelling them. We then used these for a full week to practise separating our rubbish. We spoke about trying to do this at home too and encouraging our family to recycle.

When ย discussing recycled paper, we created our own paper!

We spoke about the benefits of compost and separating food waste. We identified the food waste bin in our own school and other settings. We then created our own compost. We spoke about how compost has nutrients from the food and how we can grow flowers in our compost. We then wrote a procedure piece on how to grow a flower.

As part of our targets this term, as a class, we aimed to develop our research skills. We researched save the earth posters and information after talking about clean energy. We spoke about solar panels and types of energy alongside how to recycle batteries.

We spoke about donating and upcycling clothes and other items. We spoke about how someone may have a use or a need for something you might not need anymore. We also spoke about reusable bags and the policy in place to encourage use of biodegradable products.
We ended our topic by creating recycling monsters. We gave our monsters bins for arms and legs, our own made paper for hair, a reusable bag for clothes and a recycling symbol on our the clothes.
