Walking Water

P3A have been working hard at getting to know each other. We have been working in different types of teams and evaluating what works best. We have been taking on different roles and responsibilities.

In science this week, we focused on observation skills. Everyone in the team had a role. We used water and food colouring for our walking water experiment. Here were the results …

We learned a lot from this experiment and really enjoyed it too. Why don’t you ask us all about it and we can share what we learned?

Thanks for your continued support,

p3A and miss McGregor.

Welcome back!

Welcome back !!

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new children and families joining us at Simpson Nursery and look forward to getting to know you all better over the coming months .  It has also been great to welcome back our new Pre-school children, we can’t believe how much they have all grown in just a few months. Don’t forget to have a look at our blog each week which will be filled with lots of information on what the children have been showing interest in and learning.

This week in the nursery we have introduced our stage and rock band instruments which the children have had lots of fun experimenting with the different sounds. Think we have a few stars in the making.

In the garden the children have begun to pick the apples and plums from our trees which we will use in lots of different ways over the coming weeks. There have also been a few budding ‘David Attenburgh’s’ discovering frogs and ladybirds around the garden. We will extend the children’s interest in mini beast next week by introducing magnifying glasses and bug viewers to their play.

Coming to an End

The Green House is now complete and the children are continuing to look after the plants which are growing there. We have tomato, cucumber and pepper plants.  Thanks to everyone who donated the plastic bottles they were greatly appreciated. [It sits in the right hand side corner as you look out into the garden.]

The whole school have been involved in a STEM challenge. The children were too design and build a theme park ride using recyclable materials.

The nursery decided to focus on Ferris wheels. The children looked on line to see what they looked like before creating their own and after much debating we found our winners. Well done Ethan S from our morning session and Isla H from our afternoon session.

The Government have a new initiative called The Lost Words and are encouraging everyone to look at words that are not commonly used. This week we have introduced Adder and Dandelion through Gemma.  We have two publications of these books in nursery, please feel free to look through them.

Lost property clothing/items are being display in the entrance to the nursery have a look to see if anything belongs to your child as all remaining items will be handed into a charity shop at the end of term.

Can everyone empty their child’s bag by Thursday of next week as this gives staff time to wash them for starting next term.

As our weather is supposed to be picking up again can you please remember to put sun cream on your child.

Thank you.

Sports Day – Monday 18th June

With thanks

Miss Ferris

This week we have been preparing for two big events.

Sports day was on Tuesday this week and unfortunately it had to be inside due to the rainfall over night causing the grass to be wet and slippery. It was lovely to see so many of our parents come along and support our Children. The Children all seemed to have a great time and many thanks to all our parent helpers who came along to help on the day.

Plant sale and cafe

On Thursday we had our plant sale. The Children have been preparing for this event for many weeks. They have been planting seeds and flowers outside in our garden. Mrs. Sharkey and Miss Bambrough’s mum also provided plants for us to sell so a Big thank you to them both for all their hard work.  At the moment we have raised over £200. Once all the money has been counted by the office staff we will let you know the final amount raised. As well as selling plants the Children opened their café for parents to come along and have some juice and a cake. They enjoyed serving and chatting to the parents.

Thank you to everyone for coming along to these events and supporting our Children

Sports Day and Garden Sale!!!

It has been another busy week at Simpson Nursery. As we are nearing the end of the last term in nursery for some of our boys and girls, transition into P1 has begun. The pre-school children have spent time in their classroom along with their buddies and P1 teacher.  It is an exciting new adventure in their learning journey.

The children have been continuing to role play in the ‘garden centre’, where they have been taking on the roles of gardeners, chefs, waiters/waitress’ or customers in the café.

There has also been digging and planting in the outside area ahead of our garden sale on Thursday 14th June.  We have also been busy making signs with the names of plants, pictures and prices. Please feel free to pop along to the nursery during the morning or afternoon session to buy a plant or have a drink and biscuit in our café.

We have also been practising for our sports day on Tuesday 12th June.  Morning session will begin at 9.15am and afternoon session 1.30pm.  It will last approximately one hour.  Please come along to cheer on your child and others. You are welcome to bring something to sit on or stand.  Remember your trainers for the adult race.

Some of the children have also been designing cards to celebrate the anniversary of Simpson school and nursery’s 10th year.

With all the lovely sunshine we have been experiencing over the last few weeks please remember to put sun cream on your child before coming to nursery.  We don’t want to have to limit their time outside but we do have to

Start of Transition

The children who are moving onto Primary 1 met their buddies this week. The buddies will be a friendly face for the children as they transition to their new classes over the next few weeks and indeed in August when they officially start school. Buddies have been through this experience themselves not too long ago and are excited for the opportunity.

As you all are aware it is Newland’s Day tomorrow. Hope to see you all at the parade in your Emoji costumes. Let’s hope the sunshine continues…..

Important dates:

Monday 4th June –  Holiday (Newland’s Day)

Tuesday 12th June – Sports Day (more information to follow)

Wednesday 27th June – Leaver’s Assembly (more information to follow)

We are also currently planning our annual Garden Plant Sale. We are looking at available dates (week commencing 11th June) and will share more information very soon.

Have a lovely holiday weekend!
