Hope everyone had a good christmas!
Nice to see all the children back.
This week in nursery children we have been enjoying chats about the weather, what presents Santa left and all children have really been enjoying listening to lots of stories.
This week in Nursery the Children have settled back into their normal routine after our busy week last week. We have had the Christmas story read at story group time. There are a variety of Christmas activities including making decorations for our Christmas tree. At the end of the day in our groups we have been singing Christmas songs and songs from our Nativity which the children still enjoy.
This week the weather has been colder and we have had some frost which the Children have noticed. This led to the Children looking at and smashing the ice with their feet. As an experiment they then froze some water for our water tray. Each day the Children have checked to see if it has worked.
Next Thursday the 20th of December is our Christmas party for all our children.
Morning party starts at 9am with a visit from Santa at 10.15am
Afternoon party starts at 1pm with a visit from Santa at 2.15p
Nursery will still start at 8am for morning children and 12.09pm for afternoon Children
A BIG thank you to ALL our parent helpers!!! It was great to have so many of you to help prepare the Children for their Nativity. We have had lots of praise from our parents/ Carers who really enjoyed the show.
Thank you to everyone who attended the school Christmas Fayre on Saturday. You all seemed to have enjoyed yourselves! We have now sold the majority of our ‘Penguin Footprint Prints’, there are only a few left so if you haven’t got your child’s one yet there is still time to purchase it. We will let to know our total raised as soon as we can.
We have been rehearsing lots for our upcoming Nursery Nativity which can you believe is next week! Tickets are still on sale and forms can be handed to any staff member – and were possible with the correct money in an envelope please! 🙂
Nativity Times on Wednesday 5th December : AM 10am PM 2pm
The children have been busy making gifts to sell at the Christmas Fayre. The Christmas Fayre is on tomorrow, Saturday 24th of November at 10:30 – 1:30. We will be selling our lovely Penguin print canvases for £2.50. The children are really proud of these and can’t wait to share them with you!
We have also been really busy outside in the garden jumping in puddles. We suggest that the children are in appropriate clothing for this weather and ensure their bags are stocked up with spare clothes.
We would love parents and carers to come along to our Christmas Nativity on the 5th Of December, the children have been working hard singing their songs. We’re sure you have been made to sing them too at home.
The children have been discussing what they know about Autumn this week. Many have been out and about exploring the nursery and school grounds to collect some fallen leaves and spot signs that the weather/environment is changing. Children have also been great at bringing into nursery items they have found while being on walks or outings with their families.
Below is a link to an Autumn checklist if you are planning a little Autumn walk during the October holidays….
A quick reminder that nursery is now closed for the October week holidays. Children will return to nursery on Tuesday 23rd October.
Have a lovely time off!
Thursday was National poetry day, At nursery the children have been listening and practicing a small poem all about autumn. The children enjoyed listening to this and managed to pick up a few lines which they could then repeat independently, This has prompted discussion amongst the children about autumn and how the leaves are beginning to fall off the trees, We discussed with the children about collecting some autumn leaves and bringing them into nursery. Below is our small poem, maybe you could repeat this at home too!
Autumn Winds
Autumn winds begin to blow,
Colored leaves fall fast and slow,
Whirling, twirling all around,
Till at last they reach the ground.
We have been continuing with our mini beast spotting using our clipboards in the garden to see what bugs we can find in our outdoor space.
Next week is our parents evening, remember to go on and book a slot if you haven’t already!
Snack money is due for this term, Please remember to pay this next week!
Throughout the week the children in nursery have been taking part in a range of different Numeracy activities to celebrate Maths week, We have been challenging the children in a variety of ways throughout the room, the children were counting out the ladybirds onto paper plates matching the correct number (As we have an interest of minibeasts throughout the room), We have also been using our large snakes and ladders game, In the water tray we have practiced pouring and filling using a variety of different sized jugs and containers and we used a variety of shape sorters. A big focus this week has been our apples from our apple tree in the garden, the children picked the apples from the tree and brought them indoors, We held an apple sale at the end of session where the parents could then purchase our apples this then gave the children an opportunity to explore money and amount. The apples that the Children picked were also made into apple crumble which they had an opportunity to taste at group time.
Remember to go to our parent council Facebook page and like and share their page!
Welcome back !!
We would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new children and families joining us at Simpson Nursery and look forward to getting to know you all better over the coming months . It has also been great to welcome back our new Pre-school children, we can’t believe how much they have all grown in just a few months. Don’t forget to have a look at our blog each week which will be filled with lots of information on what the children have been showing interest in and learning.
This week in the nursery we have introduced our stage and rock band instruments which the children have had lots of fun experimenting with the different sounds. Think we have a few stars in the making.
In the garden the children have begun to pick the apples and plums from our trees which we will use in lots of different ways over the coming weeks. There have also been a few budding ‘David Attenburgh’s’ discovering frogs and ladybirds around the garden. We will extend the children’s interest in mini beast next week by introducing magnifying glasses and bug viewers to their play.
The children who are moving onto Primary 1 met their buddies this week. The buddies will be a friendly face for the children as they transition to their new classes over the next few weeks and indeed in August when they officially start school. Buddies have been through this experience themselves not too long ago and are excited for the opportunity.
