Primary 1/2

We have been learning about chicks this week. We were drawing chicks today; we drew yellow dots and then we put on legs, eyes, beak and made every chick a little bit different.  In our groups we made big pictures to show what we know about the life cycle of a chicken, and what they need to grow big and strong.

We were learning about caring people as part of Rights Respecting schools. We know children have the right to live with their parents or someone who cares for them.

Jacques is ready to pack!

imageMrs Hull and Jacques are making final preparations for their French adventure during the Easter holidays.

We will be in Lyon for a week learning lots of French and finding out about France.  It’s a big adventure and the whole school are helping us prepare:

Primary 1 and 1/2 have made a packing list. They checked the weather forecast in Lyon and suggested sun cream and shades rather than a scarf.

Primary 2 have written a list of questions they would like Mrs Hull to find out about school in France. Do they wear a uniform? What are French school dinners like?

Primary 3 have been learning how to talk about the weather in French, so Mrs Hull can tell people how sunny it is in Scotland.

In primary 4 we have been looking at French story books and practising the calendar, and Primary 5 have found out where Lyon is in France. They wrote postcards to their pen pals in French describing Pumpherston and Uphall station. We have pen pals in West Lothian now, perhaps we will be writing for pen pals in France soon.

Primary 6 have prepared photos and film for a guided tour of our school. We also had a quick look at Lyon airport on Google earth and learned how to give directions, in case Mrs Hull gets lost.

Primary 7 had a good look at Lyon tourist information and have given advice on travel, activities, interesting sights to see, and the local football team! They have asked lots of questions about life in France.

The staff have also helped us.  The ladies in the office have made sure Jacques has a school tie to look smart as he represents Pumpherston and Uphall Station CPS on the trip, and the teachers have given us travel tips, books to read on the plane, and travel adapters for the charger plugs.

Thank you to everyone who is supporting us. We will be blogging as we go so look up the blog over the Easter holidays! We hope to come back with some new friends and lots of good ideas for French lessons next term.

Primary 3 Chefs

Primary 3 have been learning how to prepare healthy food, and trying new tastes in class.  Last week’s team made a delicious cous cous salad with a range of vegetables. This week the team of chefs made a refreshing fruit salad.  Any ideas of other simple recipes we can try, which will help us learn how to chop, cut, peel and grate?

P3 Trip to Kirk of Calder

P3 went on a trip and enjoyed it. We went to Kirk of Calder church in Mid Calder and we learned lots of things. We learned that the font is made from Gibraltar rock.  The trip was brilliant because we got to go downstairs, upstairs and stand in the pulpit, and then they were kind enough to give us a snack. We have written thank you letters to Bobby and Richard for being so friendly and helpful.

P1 & P1/2 Get Growing

This week, Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 have been looking at food journeys. First of all, we looked at how milk makes its journey from the farm all the way to our fridges at home (ask us to explain it to you!).

On Friday, we began to think about how vegetables grow and come from the farm to us. We got ‘green-fingered’ and planted lots of different vegetable seeds (carrots, peppers, sweetcorn, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli and leeks). We are looking forward to seeing how they grow!

We have left our seeds in our library corridor/greenhouse, so keep an eye out for any shoots peeking through!

Until next time…

A taste of French Cuisine in Primary 1 and 1/2

Bonjour! Here are some photos of Primary 1/2 having their snack in the French cafe style last week.  Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 have been learning about different French food and got to taste baguette as they drank their milk.

We used french to say please and thank you to the waiters and to count out the money to pay the bill at the end.  Au revoir!
